I have noticed that most people could play games at full speed using their computers
I want to know if it will be possible to play games at full speed by future versions of pcsx2 using my old pc ........it's because I have just bought a xbox360 ,so I have no extra money for a new pc.....
I have ffx and ffxii at home.....are these 2 games possible?
my pc spec:
amd athlon xp 1700+,512MB DDR400,GF FX5200 128MB,160GB Harddisk

Full speed, not a chance, but could come close to "acceptable". Perhaps 10 fps from ISO, with frameskipping possibly adding an extra 5 fps.
As usual, your mileage might vary. The graphic drivers used can influence greatly, but in this case, there's too much of a bottleneck from CPU and GPU.

EDIT: Note: I'm talking about pc games. If it's this slow for pc games imagine how slow it must be in pcsx2.
The 5200 is an awful graphics card, I've had games that performed better on my old geforce 2 than on the 5200 I had. It claims to support shaders so games try to use them, but it runs them so slowly that the game is nearly unplayable. The geforce 2 didn't support shaders so they were emulated by my cpu, which turned out to be much faster. Another thing to note is that the 5200 is strictly a 16-bit card, there is a significant speed difference between running in 16-bit colour and 32-bit colour in games. Most cards couldn't care less either way.
I made the mistake of "upgrading" to a 5600XT, which is actually SLOWER than a 5200, but at least it was a true 32-bit card.
This was several years ago, I learned my lesson since and have been through a 6800GT (awesome, but AGP), twin 6600GT (upgraded to A64 + PCI-e, so 6800GT didn't fit), an X800GTO (power circuits exploded and I had to replace my mobo, cpu and gfx), and finally an X1900XTX (X800 was being unreliable for no reason).

5200 and 5600XT? 16-Bit card? I'm kinda confused. For some reason, I don't remember any Geforce5200 card (FX Maybe.) ... But I remember them supporting 32-Bit color AND textures.... Although they are very slow cards.
I think primarily because it's emulation processor is the most important part, however since todays video cards are very poweful as well can divert processing power from processor to video cards, video cards should be a very close second.

5200 = geforce FX 5200
5600XT = geforce FX 5600XT
(All the 5xxx cards were FX and all the FX were 5xxx, so people tend to leave the FX off)
Yes, the 5200 supported 32-bit colour screens / textures etc, but only by emulating them internally. They were significantly slower than 16-bit. The better cards in the same series supported 32-bit colours directly, so they were the same speed as 16-bit.

the entire ge force 5 series is awfull.You can`t buy a worst card these days.FX 5200 is an MX400 with some shader implants that don`t actually work well their emulted thru the driver and the CPU.Ge Force 5200 is the worst card that came out in the entire GPU history.The differance between a 5500 and a 5200 is none the differance between 5500 and 5600 is something like 10-15 percent for double the price.The 5800 is even unspeakable it whas so bad that they produced it for only 2 months.Buy a new VGA and throw that away or give it to someone you really hate for christmas:)

Well, but it worked, it's the cheapest cards these days, look at all the people who has them....
Remember that they are in close number to the people who has Intel GMA integrated graphics card in the PCSX2 forum...... :p
Here in our country EVERY budget internet/computer shop has those things in order to have quantity (more units) vs quality (high speed computers.)
And in asia, the most popular genre right now is MMORPG's in which the 5200 and 5500 run well. Sadly.

Those support DirectX9 features, but lack enough processing power to handle anything more than the basic featureset. Their poor shaders performance became more and more obvious, and a handicap, since more and more games rely on shaders now. Only the latest FX card is powerful enough to be worth considering, but since 6, 7 and 8 are out, it'd make more sense getting more recent models.
Basically, the FX family is considered a flawed generation. Geforce 6 and higher got Nvidia back on track.
Appropriate, inexpensive graphic cards include the ATI X800, and Geforce 6600GT. Wise money spent.
