hehe, you may have to change your username to NullDCRules, Unfortunatly I have already aquired that username. However I may be willing to sell it you for a very reasonable price.:rotflmao:

Nah! just kidding..... Besides i dont think chankast will die as soon as NDc is released.
It'll Prolly just fade away and leave fond memories, like ultraHLE.

PsyMan
October 17th, 2006, 19:13
Well... The null_DC core is currently better. As for the GFX... ZeZu and Razi are on the right way. Regarding sound... This might be a problem, or it might not be. :p
The real test however is to make the null_DC recompiler better (even though it's pretty good right now). The best part of Chankast was its recompiler no doubt.

Confused yet? :p

i certainly beg to differ.

and following on from what Psyman said

and its weakest part was the interpreted sound processor ;p its amazing the drag that causes, lets hope ZeZu and drk||Razi can pull a nice rec out of their hats for it :)

I dont wanna sound like a source scrounger or anything, but....
Is this emulator to be released as open source or closed?
Its cool if you keep it closed source source. Thats your right.:thumb:
I just think it'd be a crying shame if it all this work was 'lost' again and 'Jonny-next-emu-writer' has to start from scratch.

UltraHle was suppassed in the drought years(as i call them ;) ) before the leaked source was found. By then it was too late to do any good...... basicly what im asking is that if you do decide not to continue with it you release the code to the public so other can continue to fight the good fight. :D

Im signing off for a couple of months now to get on with some of the stuff that pays the bills! :)
Good luck to you all......

Not even! I simply requested that when the authors are done with project that the work they have already done doesn't simply slide into the abyss like chankast and ultrahle. I neither need nor desire the source code.

Also I distintley remember writing

because that question is relevant to most programmers. I like open source, and if I ever work on an emulator in the future it will be open source, I'm not even that advanced a programmer but open source sounds appealing to me, you are being ignorant if you think asking such questions about such projects is silly.

Hope it will have a better iso support than Chankast as I like to store the games on HDD instead. Chankast required you to have an older version of Daemon tools, wish it could simply load the isos directly instead. :D

I know that but I don't like to get quoted cuz of being too lazy to write a few extra words :innocent:. However it shouldn't be too hard to make it launch iso files directly but this is a minor concern anyways, compability and speed are far more important. ;)

Good job, but running an emulator in an emulator is not best idea for performance. :)

Also I wonder if NullDC supports homebrew stuffs Chankast didn't, like BIOS font or CD fs from KOS. I tried to ask one of the author but he looks busy and I can't get technical info I need.

I wish I could develop my homebrew projects and test them in real time, I wouldn't like having to change many things to make them compatible with the emu later. Chankast had troubles with the homebrew scene because of its compatibility, I hope NullDC's devs won't do the same error, so far it's encouraging.

I would love to see Linux support for this emulator. Honestly, it's Chankast's biggest failing (well, that and being in a state of dependency hell) and I'll definitely use this if we see a Linux version.

I also agree that proper iso support is a necessity.

I'm curious if nullDC is a new project started from scratch or partially contains icarus in it?

Chrono Archangel
November 6th, 2006, 00:49
im not 100% sure of my answer but I do beleive it has been created from scratch. Although since ZeZu has worked in the past on Icarus, I wouldnt be surprised if he writes some parts of NullDC like Icarus was.

kohan69
November 6th, 2006, 00:59
The reason I ask is due to ZeZu's hesitation of releasing icarus.
Maybe he felt it shouldn't be released unfinished and went on to continue with nullDC. Just a thought.

Hey I got an idea, you can actually ask the authors nicely for the source code or actually join the team. Ya know more people means faster and a better quality work.

After dabbling with PCSX2 for the last day I can safely say I am now more anxious for NullDC than I have been for a while. Maybe it's cuz I only have one PS2 game to play with and it doesn't work right -.-;

Yup, you're right there. They don't give a rat's ass for you waiting, because there's always a horde of disrespectful n00bs who just want to play their warezed games without having to buy the console.

Emulators aren't made for public, they're a proof of concept in most cases and developers will strive for perfection, but at their own pace.

YOU ARE TALKING PURE CRAP BABE!

I have four facts to name that can prove the above statement.

1. Daedalus Daedalus (http://daedalus.boob.co.uk/contact.htm)
2. Dolphin ..:: Dolphin (c) 2003-2005 by F|RES & ector ::.. (http://dolphin-emu.com/team.php)
3. Basic Boy Basic Boy (http://members.lycos.co.uk/basicboy/index.php)
4. PCSX2 PCSX2.net - About (http://www.pcsx2.net/about.php)

And for the people that find it difficult to find the meaning of this post...
These are some of the people that worked on Icarus up to some extent: CyRUS64, ector, ZeZu, F|RES.

And these are some of the people that work on nullDC up to some extent: ZeZu, drk||Raziel, GiGaHeRz.

Excluding Icarus (and nullDC which is currently WIP), can you point me a single person of the ones mentioned that worked on an another anounced project that was never released? I'm waiting for an answer, unless the cat ate your tongue or something.

What are you doing here? At least you should check the beta screens posted on the forum. Two of the official beta testers are staff members here, they showed great games running with playable speed. I don't see the reason why an excellent emulator would not be released.

OK. Here is a pic of of Dead or Alive 2 LE during some net play tests. The one with Hayabusa is drkIIRaziel and the one with Kasumi is me. The game seems to run at 100% speed (a little less on the shot) but this is actually incorrect. There are speed detection issues with a couple of games, some run faster than they should on some cases (ie: Time Stalkers) while others run slower on some cases (Dead or Alive 2 LE).

PS: Razi hates Dead or Alive

Because these little number of people are official beta-testers. The author is working on it, and if you dislike his job then don't visit this forum again.
And you will never see a public beta, just wait for the final version.

but if it's soo difficult to release it , it's so hard to wait for us ...

It's harder to code and even harder to test.

ok , nullDC (or 0DC?) is a fake (without any public release , official site down and lot of late it's a fake ...)

OK. None of the nullDC members cares if you believe that it's fake or not. Saying that it's fake won't lead to a release.
If you really believe that it's fake then there is no reason to ask about a release. You believe that it's fake and move on to something else, end of story.

it would be great if the emu was 64bit only... helping to get the world more 64bitsh....

That would be overkill really though. It runs plenty fast enough as an x86 app, and will run just fine on an x64 environment (works great for me on WinXP x64).;)

it would be a x86 software , if it's released of course ...

Yeah I can't wait until it's released, and I'll be very excited like a kid at easter or christmas and pour my thanks out to the wonderful devs who created it.

As for the other guy it's simply :done:

They are writing this on their own free time, when they are not working or at school (College). They have no obligation to make or release this emulator, but they do it anyways as a hobby and to see games for consoles running on hardware they are not intended to run on.

Hell they don't even have to release this emulator, and there is nothing you can do as it is they're choice not to.

But does it make it anymore fake if they don't release it or have not released it yet? I think not, many emulators are closed source, some never see the light of day, however people have claimed most other emulators as fake and have been proven wrong.

I'm sure a lot of people thought it wouldn't be possible to emulate PS2 on a PC, but hey look we got PCSX2.

It is very easy to spot a fake, and considering there is many people/betatesters backing up that this emulator is in fact real, have tested it and saw firsthand, I don't know how anyone can call it a fake.

However seeing the progress being made I certainly believe that there might me a possible release soon, so just be patient Mmkay?;)

Well, the last estimated release was around Christmas.... but it didn't happen. Nor the estimated release dates before that.
The most honest answer is the one refraction gave. I could tell you that the release date is today or tomorrow but it wouldn't be true. Would you like that instead?

ok ... then at least will it be open source so others (like i) could use it for AtomisWave ?

Hehe you could pull what the UT2k4 devvers did and keep saying "2 weeks" also... haha they must have done that for about 4 months.

Have a question though, will NullDC handle this (http://forums.ngemu.com/dreamcast-emulation/83237-resident-evil-code-veronica-tiger-wont-turn-around.html) problem with Resident Evil: Code Veronica.... always wanted to play this game but I don't feel like busting out the Dreamcast for it plus my controllers have gone to crap and I've got the Xbox 360 pad on my PC.

What is the nullDC's decision. being compatible with all games and getting to version 1.0 in the first release ?

By the way, congratulate yourself. you've done a great job guys, really.
I didn't expect we could see a DC emu after Chankast's death:eyespin:.
