Who needs technology? Just a little AD&D magic would suffice for all the world's woes. Observe:

'Irnar's Poloroidic Pregnancy (Necromancy)

Class: Mage
Level: 6
Range: Touch
Components: V, S
Duration: permanent
Casting Time: 6
Area of Effect: 1 creature
Saving Throw: Neg.

This spell will speed up the pregnancy of a woman from 9 stages to
9 hours (1 hour for each stage left until birth). The pregnatn woman
must make a system shock when its time to give birth. Success
indicates that the birth is successful, failure indicates that child
dies and the woman suffers a permanent -1 reduction to constitution.
'Irnar is still researching, but the priestesses of the Mother
Goddess are doing their damndest to hunt him down and destroy his research, it is a violation of their creed.

Mayhaps there is a calling for a mage Ryos somewhere...

True enough, but as any number of Final Fantasy and [x] Mana games have taught us, eventually someone (or a given group) abuse their magical talents and magic, being the fickle kind of thing it is, receeds for awhile. Of course, then some power-hungry person/corporation goes out searching for magical power to use with their newly built machines/weapons/artificially enhanced humans, and all sorts of trouble begins

dont you guys watch the WB? ;)
they use magic in 'real world' situations...well, kinda..
they do it in buffy, angel, and charmed

however, i fail to see how increases the worlds population by having babies faster would actually help to solve any problems..
