im nearly certian that its my cdvdrom plugin at fault. ive put cdvdPeops.dll(1.2) in the plugins directory. however it will not show as an option in pcsx2's config window. no one seems to know the problem. am i better off saving the disk as an iso? if so, what's the most reliable way to do this?

You can make iso with the Alcohol 120%, also if you want to play the game from CD/DVD you can use EFP polling CDVD driver.

ok ive been to this point before but at least it's not backpeddling like ive been doing.... im sure using the EFP plugin is a setp in the right direction....i can get just past the konami and sceJ logo and about a second into the opening cenimatic....freeze. the game is MGS2 and ive seen posts of people whove foound it playable.

hm... if it freezes on the video maybe you need a patch to skip it, go here (http://forums.ngemu.com/pcsx2-official-forum/62837-patch-making-dummies-scempegisend.html).
Also look at the compatibility list which you got with PCSX2, it may be that your game is from different region so it might not work.

the pach maker didnt find the line of code i needed....and where is the list located? also alcohol 120% aborts after doing about 15% (disk read error)

To find the list go to the instalation path and select the folder help.
That error means that your disc is scratched, clean it and try again (with the playstation2 profile), if the error
still exist use error skipping but that is not recommended because your ISO can be corrupted.

I was having this same problem as well. Using the EFP DVD did make things work a bit better. Now I get the PS2 intro screen , but when it goes to the dvd I crash.

I am guessing winxp64 is giving me probs, but anyone else here have any suggestions??

PCSX2 is designed for Windows XP 32bit, its likely it wont work correctly under XP64. Yes the urbz is playable very very slowly, not sure how well it works using run->execute but its fine via file->run cd
