Oh and Aided, I forgot to tell you that video of the neoclassical part ROCKED! Man he's good. It also made me think of how you recommended Marcel Coenen to me. Funnily enough I kinda became the roadie of a band by some of my friends, which is Sun Caged's bass player's ex band. He became a bit too good for those guys and their cover band ;) It's interesting to see how their ex drummer now plays in a professional band as well, Silent Edge.
Grad you liked the video, he's freaking awesome, it's like neo classical meets F-zero music (some of the best VG music btw)
Haha, that's awesome. Let me know how they are, and a link to a myspace or something. Silent edge is a freaking awesome band. You hear a lot of JP in there.
As for listing to new stuff, yeah I have like 10 or so gigs of songs I really need to listen to, and TRUST me, an Ipod helps. A job that you can use one at help a lot too. I can't do that any more, but I got into a lot of new stuff that way.
Also it doesn't matter if you don't listen to something as much anymore, it's just because you know it so well now. You'll pop it in 2 or 3 years from now and love it more, and maybe ever hear things you haven't before.

Heh, funny you know Silent Edge as well, I see their drummer on saturday nights in my regular pub from time to time. In fact, his dad was the one who gave music classes at my old school. Funny stuff ^^ I got a video of theirs at youtube, in case you haven't seen it yet :)

On a side note though, I hardly ever listen to Metallica anymore...they used to be my favorite band :(
Still mine :) At least for the thrash metal sub-genre. Megadeth and Anthrax are close behind.
Glam/hair metal was never my cup of tea though... I guess I should give it a second chance.
I've been listening to some of the newer stuff lately like Sanctity which is not bad for a young band.
edit: anyone listened to the new Symphony X? I found it ok. Would like to know what you guys think about it.

Why the evil smiley? I didn't break the law or something :p
Well, for example, you could always go to Last.fm (http://www.last.fm/) and try out the radio function. Put in a band you like, tell it to play similar artists, and that way you can break out of your groove of listening to one artist and use it to find similar artists.
And that reminds me...I posted it in the bin and I don't think I've posted here..any of you guys use Last.fm? If so, friend me (http://www.last.fm/user/hushypushy/) ;) I already have a few NGEmu members on my friends list.

I bought the new Graveworm album last Tuesday. Having heard two songs already during their gig in April I was rather hyped up for it. In December Stefan already told me they would be taking a more technical approach to things, and that they would still incorporate aspects of (N)Utopia but that it would sound different as well.
He was right, I took my discman with me that day and in the store, after having bought the cd and having made a chat with the guy who sold it to me, I decided to listen it straight away since he was on the phone. The intro sounded nice, a bit industrial even. That's when Bloodwork kicked in. Damn it rocked! And even now I think it's one of the better Graveworm songs I've heard, it easily beats everything on (N)Utopia except MCMXII perhaps.
After this song I decided to head for home, and that I wouldn't listen anymore until I could play it and feel the bass at the same time ;)
The third and fourth song I already knew, respectively Touch of Hate and Suicide Code. They performed those songs in April and I already have videos of them on Youtube. It's nice to hear the cd versions though, mainly because you can hear the music is more subtle on the album. Also, Kataklysm's Maurizio Iacono makes an appearance in Touch of Hate, which at first I didn't even notice :p Now that I'm aware of it, it really adds something to the song, which already is the most aggressive one of the album.
Suicide Code already surprised me at the concert, I thought it awesome mainly for the subtle melodies played by Sabine on the keys. It adds a very nice touch for the album, which basically is typical for the entire album. Another thing typical for this album is the fact that it's not just distorted guitar noise anymore, but there's also subtle melodic riffs and even guitar solos! Don't think of powermetal solos, but just short stuff that does add a lot to the songs without breaking the song in pieces.
The Day I Die, which is the fifth song on the album, reminds me more of their old work, such as Dreaming into Reality and a song from Scource of Malice. The first truly new song by Graveworm would be Fragile Side. It ain't a ballad, but instead I think many fans will frown when they hear the song start with clean vocals. The Sorrow's Matze does some singing / screaming in this song and after listening to it a couple of times I cannot say anything other than that I really like the song. Again a nice guitar solo halfway to compliment the song even further.
Next up, I need a Hero, which is a cover of a song by Bonnie Tyler. I didn't know the original but I liked the Graveworm version instantly. "I need a hero" perhaps is an odd thing to sing for Stefan, but it's definitely a nice cover. I still like Fear of the Dark and Losing my Religion more though, but only because those were more known to me first ;)
When I heard Out of Clouds and the fast and aggressive drums kicked in, I could not hold back anymore. Sitting behind my PC headbanging to the new Graveworm album: My compliments to the guys :D
Scars of Sorrow is a song I haven't been able to get into yet, it just doesn't have that much personality to me, nothing that makes it stand out. Maybe it will grow on me though.
The last song is an instrumental one, Memories. Like most of Graveworm's instrumentals, this is a great song as well. Pretty emotional, as it was written in memory of someone very dear to the band who had passed away last year. A week before what would've been my 4th Graveworm gig. (right now the counter is stuck at 5 already :D ) The song somehow reminded me of the game Skies of Arcadia for some reason.
Summing up the album it's a great piece of music. There's a lot of nice and subtle guitar riffs and keyboard tunes throughout most of the songs while the band stays true to its original sound. It's less Nu Metal than Nutopia, which is definitely a good thing in my opinion, as Nutopia was a big step away from their Gothic Black Metal roots. Another thing that's gone are the lyrics from Nutopia, which actually were one of the really things I now miss. Some might not care, but Nutopia had some pretty good lyrics on it, this time it's more of the same again.
Again Stefan pulls off some amazingly deep growls, and great screams as well. All while Martin is pounding away on his drums at blistering speed, as tight as he has ever played.
Hushy, you should check it out a bit, you might like it even though it's a bit different than what you might normally listen to. The biggest let down of the album is that it's only 42 minutes, of which you can detract 8 minutes if you don't care for instrumental parts or intros.

Hey! I like instrumental parts and intros. Segues are where it's at...Tool does that A LOT on their albums.
Anyway, I'm getting it now, I'll check it out. Haven't heard these guys before so it should be interesting.

Checked it out yet Hushy? I hope I didn't talk you into something you regret getting :p Either way, it did take some time to grow on me because I wasn't into such vocals at all, being depressed helped quite a bit though. But you're probably more used to such growls than I was back then. At least you're starting out with a good album of theirs, Industrian started with an older one, with scottish warpipes in them, I don't even know if he touched the other albums, that one was great though. Too bad they don't use the bagpipes anymore.
Anyway, any of you guys going to Bad Arolsen (Germany) the 6th and 7th of July? It's Magic Circle Festival, with Gamma Ray, David Shankle Group, Heavenly, Holyhell, Majesty and last but not least: Manowar
Manowar will be giving a concert on both days even. I finally managed to arrange something to get there. So Industrian is off for a trip to the other side of the Channel again. It's the first time I'll be going to a festival, I suppose we'll be living on Bier und Bratwurst for 2 days, not that that's a bad thing. And because of the time the bus will leave from a large city, we are forced to spend our time drinking beer in that very same city for a couple of hours, so we'd have to be careful or we'd be smashed before even getting on the bus :p
Anyway, if any of you will be at Magic Circle Festival, let me know. I know there's not much chance, but it'd be rather nice. I just don't think we'll be able to bring a Dutch and Scottish flag.
I'd like to join with the brazilian flag. :( That gig sounds ****ing crazy.
Will you record some songs?

I used to listen to Green Day a lot in middle school. That one is there for the sentimental value :p
Listening to the album now, I'm halfway through. It's a lot different than I thought it would be! This album is also very loud/compressed...check out that lack of dynamics. Although, I have the belief that certain types of music (loud loud metal, especially) is meant to have that lack of dynamics, and you're supposed to have the speakers blasted anyway :p Pig Destroyer's "Terrifyer" album is louder than this one, and it sounds fantastic, btw.
edit: I have to respond to the comment about the vocals, I feel more comfortable with the deep death metal vocals than the higher pitched vocals, that's just what I listen to more. Glad there are lots of deep vocals on this album for sure.
Cid Highwind
June 20th, 2007, 21:01
I thought that would be two of the comments you'd have on the album. I notice the album is very loud because I also have other music on my MP3 player, and with this album I always turn it down a few notches. Same with some of the older albums. It's not bothering me a lot, because their old albums have a lot worse production value. There's only one album that doesn't feel right to me, though I never checked it, but it's Hammerfall's One Crimson Night live album. Listening to it a lot tires me.
And indeed, there are quite a few good growls on this album, he also has pretty long parts where he doesn't do the screaming, and I like that a lot. I prefer growls myself as well, especially from him. I practiced them a lot about a year ago, nowadays I'm not that good anymore. But if there's one person I look up to it's Stefan Fiore.
My fav songs are Touch of Hate and Suicide Code. I really like how Kataklysm's singer and Graveworm's work together in that one. And Suicide Code I fell in love with at that concert. I'm glad I heard it, cause after the gig they asked me personally what I thought of it, and I could tell them honestly how I thought it rocked.

It's pretty badass if you get to talk to the band members that you love
When we saw Decapitated (my favorite death metal band) we were in the front, hands on the stage, and one of the guys in the band was running around taping setlists to the floor and we looked at it and my friend asked, "where's Dance Macabre?" (which is this ridiculous song...it's sort of an inside joke) and the guy laughs and says "we left it back in Poland!"

Awesome, it's nice getting to talk to them during the show and actually talk about the setlist. I'm not really familiar with the band, but are there any Youtube videos of them worth checking out?
But they didn't give you the tracklist paper in the end? Or something else? I got a nice plectrum the last time. Btw, I did the same you did, asking them why they don't play another song instead of the regular stuff. Seems like I asked the right guy because their guitarist has the same fav song which I have, Nocturnal Hymns. I'll be sure to send the guys an email next time they'll be playing in the Netherlands, hoping they'll play it once. :)
Here's a pretty well done cover of that song. Just to get an impression on the old Graveworm style.

Manowar - Bass Solo

Messiah's Kiss - Steel Rider
this one is simply brilliant, we laughed our arses off when we saw the video again. Just keep a keen eye on the frontman. ;)

Holyhell - Rhino's drum solo

Holyhell and Eric Adams- Phantom of the Opera

Stormwarrior and Kai Hansen - Victim of Fate (solo - Helloween cover)

This was actually one of the best surprises of the day. Having Kai Hansen team up with Stormwarrior to sing Murderer, Judas, Victim of Fate and Ride the Sky. This guy is such an awesome performer. Gamma Ray was my first metal band, and this was the first time I got to see these gods in action. They were even better than I had expected. Saw Into Eternity, Redemption, and Dream Theater up in Cleveland, Ohio about a month ago. Was the first time hearing anything from Redemption, and they didn't seem too bad. It was my second time seeing Into Eternity so far, and got to hear a few different songs in the set list than when I saw them the previous year. Of course, and Dream Theater was pure awesome, just as expected.
I picked up a couple Sonata Arctica albums within the past few months, and am really liking what I'm hearing from them so far. Also, I finally picked up the latest Symphony X album, but while it's good, it just doesn't seem to hold my interest as well as some of their earlier albums (The Odyssey, especially). Other than that, I've picked up a couple God Forbid albums to check out and have liked most of thier material so far.

What do you think of long hair? What are the up and downsides of it?

It's too bad it causes so much problems.

I had long hair (check picture in picture thread) and I loved it, i just didn't take care of it so I finally cut. I do hope to grow it again, it kicked ass. Long hair, however isn't metal. It's just hair! and if you like metal (the real stuff as I always point out) and then don't like it, well you never really liked music in general at all.
Anyone who believes long hair is for women and short is for men should die. Long hair works or it doesn't with people. I know a lot of chicks with short hair and god damn, I would do so many things to them.
And if you are a hippie should should die as well.
Anyhow as for music. Check out the band Impellitteri. It's shred meets power metal. YouTube - Impellitteri - Rat Race (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Zuoed_nQ6TE) Very very good stuff.

I'm sorry, but by my definition I don't need long hair to be metal, it's just the posers and ignorants who say it's a requirement. You don't see me walk around in black all the time either, why should I? To rub it in other people's faces I'm ****ing metal? What's playing on my MP3 player speaks for itself, the fact those songs are self made MP3s from albums/DVDs I own speaks for itself.

Thomus states nightwish as a melodic metal band with female vocals.
I know a lot about hippies. My brother is one, and it's rather annoying hearing keller williams and all the other crap over and over when I got to his house...that and the contact buzz from the carpet.
I cut my hair, I'm just as much metal as before. I wear a lot of different cloths...it's too hot to wear all black all the time here. I'm always playing something that ties into metal. That doesn't mean I only listen to metal it's just metal does it all. Classical, blues, hard rock, who cares what it is, just as long as it meldodic.
Metal just keeps the spirit that all great musicians had through out time. So to the few that have the heart of metal, keep the flame burning!

Yeah, men or women, long hair works or it doesn't. I loved Matt Barlows old hair (almost to his knees) but with a shaved head he looks awesome as well. Speaking of Matt Pryamaze entered the stuidio, and we shall soon hear the great Matt Barlow once again, but with better music. haha

That's a statement of what music you listen to. Music affects what you wear, but its weird if your clothes/hair/overall appearance depend entirely on your music.
For example:
I find it completely retarded when i see some random skinny white guy walking down a street with excessively baggy shorts around his knees, and a shirt thats about 5 sizes too big, with a yankees hat (even tho person 'x' has no idea who the yankees are), while wearin a f*kin fridge around his neck; just because he listens to hip-hop.
IMO same goes for people who 'over-use' metal (or any other genre for that matter). Its music, not fashion. Theyr related but not quiet the same thing.

Oh, I know what you're talking about, I think everyone does. I've probably said that myself, I think the overtone is more like "who does that guy think he is?"
BUT in the past couple of years, I've realized something--these people are just expressing themselves. Oh, I know what you're talking about, I think everyone does. I've probably said that myself, I think the overtone is more like "who does that guy think he is?"
BUT in the past couple of years, I've realized something--these people are just expressing themselves. Maybe they're mindless zombies following a fashion trend and they don't know what's up, or maybe they have their own unique style that they're trying to show off. Either way, they're still doing what they want to do, and speaking as an American, freedom is important! (someone please let our president know that)

This Saturday, Goudvishal Arnheim, the Netherlands: Graveworm!
This Sunday, Baroeg Rotterdam, the Netherlands: Graveworm!
May the worms have mercy on my eardrums. We hope being able to arrange being allowed to film the gig on Sunday. Usually we get to talk to the band, and they've always been very cool about making videos. Hopefully this time we'll be allowed to use a proper cam rather than my digital camera. :D

For how little I've listen to quo vadis I've always been impressed by the drummer. I have a qusetion, is there another band named that because I remember when checking them out I found a instrumental song that was really calm and quiet (very heavy on leads with the guitar), if anyone knows about that please let me know.
I feel this thread need bumped...
Just wanted to say after 6 years of not hearing the song I asked about in the beginning part of this thread, I've found it. See what not being lazy does? I've been listening to quo vadis a lot and it's great.
4 more days till avantasia, I love the song promise land, and must say this will have to be the best avantasia album yet. Also Khan from Kamelot will be lending his vocals, something I'm most excited for.

Heh, seems like I'm not the only one anticipating The Scarecrow. Here (http://www.lordsofmetal.nl/showreview.php?id=10910&lang=en) is a nice review to make you even more impatient ;)
So the first question regarding the new Avantasia was if Tobi would succeed in making an album of the same level, let alone make a better one.
Well what do you know? The new Avantasia album is a fact and goddamn, WHAT AN ALBUM IT HAS BECOME!!! From the very first tunes of the opening track 'Twisted Mind' you find yourself on the edge of your chair and stay there for the coming 64 minutes. The song starts rocking almost immediately and has everything that makes Avantasia so special: powerful riffing, beautiful melodies, beautiful singing, excellent arrangements, catchy choruses, clear and powerful production and especially the genius combination of it all.
(...)
This album is almost totally different than 'The Metal Opera' and is fortunately not a typical power metal album; something that 'The Metal Opera' was a bit.
(...)
The vocal contributions of Jorn Lande, Kain Hanse, Michael Kiske and Bob Catly among others should not stay unmentioned and see to a high dosage of goose bumps regularly. But one of the most remarkable singers on this album has to be Alice Cooper, who put his stamp on 'The Toy Master', a role that no other could have done. Musically Tobi had help from Sascha Paeth (a.o. known from Luca Turilli and Aina), who has taken the guitars for his part and none less than Eric Singer (Alice Cooper, Kiss) on the drums. Besides that, Rudolf Schenker (Scorpions) has also played a couple of solos.
I was aware of Jorn Lande and Michael Kiske doing some vocals, they were on the Lost in Space EPs, but Kai Hansen :D That guy is my power metal hero, so that was an even bigger surprise, especially since he never was announced on the Tobias Sammet site. The Promised Land is definitely one of the catchiest songs I've heard in a while Aided. I don't think I need to tell anyone who has visited my LastFM page. Three godlike vocalists in one song...
So yeah, we've got:
Michael Kiske - Ex Helloween
Jorn Lande - Ex Masterplan (a must have album for heavy metal fans)
Tobias Sammet - Edguy
Roy Khan - Kamelot (never heard much of him, just one song, sounded good)
Eric Singer - Kiss (doing vocals as well)
Alice Cooper
Bob Catley - Magnum
I was really surprised with the voice of Bob Catley on the EPs, he was completely unknown to me, but I think his voice fits in so well with Jorn Lande, forming a great balance against those sweet higher range voices of Kiske and Sammet.
I've been listening some Quo Vadis as well last week, mainly because of my cousin letting me listen some of his Berzerker stuff, which is a bit extreme for my tastes. Quo Vadis still has more than enough melody for me to like it. And their drummer.... You won't believe it until you've actually seen it on live footage.
Btw Aided, you might like my latest videos from the Axxis/Gamma Ray/Helloween gig. Also, I managed to score some plectrums, making me happy as a little kid really. The people in front of me tried to catch the one Dirk Slächter threw (gamma ray bass), but failed. So I picked it up when I saw it shimmer. To my surprise this happened a second time, this time it was Kai Hansen who threw it. This really made a great night a perfect one :D

Today I got myself the new Iced Earth album, well, the one that was released last year: Framing Armageddon - Something Wicked Part 1
I'm already looking forward to the second part because this album sounds absolutely fantastic so far. People always told me to listen Iced Earth, and my first experience was actually Demons and Wizards. This stuff doesn't stray far off, especially not if you listen to the guitar riffs, it's very recognizable.
Truth is, I have a soft spot for concept albums with lots of interludes and a great atmosphere carrying the entire album, which is one of the reasons why I bought this album after having read only one review. But hey, the price of €12,90 helped as well ;)
Being 68 minutes, I probably made a very good purchase, at least something to carry me over till my next albums: The new Avantasia and the new Ayreon.... Meanwhile, I have to study KoRn... I'll be seeing them within a week oO

Oh man, I hear ya. I'm a sucker for concept albums too. It started with The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon, then it went on from there.
Dream Theater's Metropolis pt II: Scenes from a Memory, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, and Octavarium; Opeth's Still Life and My Arms, Your Hearse; Blind Guardian's Nightfall in Middle-Earth; Pretty much any Rhapsody of Fire album (though those guys are starting to annoy me a little). I have more than listed here and I love them all. I'm guessing it's mostly because they're concept albums.
I've never heard this Iced Earth album, but I do have the prelude album Something Wicked this way Comes. I should pick it up.

So yeah, I'm going because of her, not because of the band, but I might as well use it as a reason to listen to some of their stuff and perhaps appreciate the concert anyway. It's definitely not my kind of metal anyway.
As for Nightfall in Middle Earth, great album, a must have for any powermetal fan.

They're a band from finland and they have never toured in north america. They have 4 albums right now. They used to be compared to CoB but IMO they're nothing like them... They've changed their sound on the last album The Black Waltz to lower style of singing instead of the higher pitch melo-death style. Lovin it.
They've just finished recording and mixing their 5th studio album and it should be out soon :D Check them out if you have time.

Holy Diver, nice, did you ever listen to the original album of Dio? It's recommended, nice 80s metal. I found it a bit overhyped but that's perhaps because I'm not fully able to put it in the perspective of metal history. They say it's a milestone, and for that it perhaps gets much more credit than I'm able to give it. Nonetheless, a good album if you can pick it up for €6,- like I was able to :)
Nice to see people who still buy CDs, kudos!

Speaking of buying CDs, my Scarecrow arrived yesterday. The limited edition Digipack of course. I don't settle for regular releases, especially not if they limited one goes for only one euro more. Twisted Mind set the mood, I like the opening riffs, but it's not my favorite song of the album. I've never been into Kamelot either, so I guess the fact Khan is singing doesn't do much for me either. My absolute favorite song is The Scarecrow, I'm not exaggerating when I say that song brought tears to my eyes and send shivers down my spine. This song alone is worth the album. They said it's supposed to be "the next Seven Angels", I disagree, it doesn't have as many interludes and different sections like that song. That said, it's complext enough to keep you on the edge of your seat with amazing vocals from Jorn Lande and Tobias Sammet, the fact you'll notice Kiske on the background is icing on the cake. This song, together with The Toy Master makes it worth the lable of Avantasia. The Toy Master really has a very eerie atmosphere, I suppose it's Alice Cooper who is to blame ;)
The other songs are nice, Another Angel down remains one of my favorites, mainly because of the vocals, I'm a Jorn Lande fan, I loved his first Masterplan album as well, which I still recommend to any metal fan because of the 5/5 quality. The other songs fit in perfectly well with the concept of the album, despite being very Edguy-ish. Shelter From the Rain is a nice full tempo song with vocals from Michael Kiske, it just feels a bit too cliché, happy power metal. Disappointing, because I had hoped to hear Kiske in a way different than the Eagle Fly Free style we know him for from his Helloween days. Carry me Over and Lost in Space are the most poppish songs, or as others lable it: Bon Jovish. It's the lyrics that fit in well with the concept, so that's a good redeeming factor.
Definitely one song not to overlook is What Kind of Love, and just as I was typing this my mom commented she found it so recognizable, as if she has heard it before. So yeah guys, even your parents might enjoy this album ;) However, this song is definitely a great ballad, some might find it cheesy, but I think it's awesome with some nice variety. The moment Tobias kicks in and explores his highest vocal ranges send shivers down my spine again, on my second listen I actually noticed that at that moment it was Kiske again backing him up, adding another nice layer of depth, rather than having vocals doubled by Tobi himself. This song is a lot better than the other ballad, Cry Just a Little, which isn't that bad, but just nothing special.
Concluding I think this is a great album, I definitely love the concept as a whole, which is about a lonesome songwriter getting lost in himself, even in his own mind, or as Tobias put it, "It's my personal Dr. Faust story." There's some great songs on this album (The Scarecrow, What Kind of Love, The Toy Master), and some that simply aren't moody enough making them a bit too much new-style Edguy. Still it's quality filler. It's not the fantasy filled Avantasia like the previous two albums, and I think it's a great step they made, they avoid fantasy clichés and cheesy powermetal and it's become a very nice conceptual album. I'd give it an 8.5/10.
Having Alice Cooper sing "I'm the master of toys, and all you girls and boys are welcome to my wonderland" is disturbing enough to warrant a purchase ;)

I've been to KoRn yesterday, let me break up the evening for you.
The first band was Deathstars. A freakish Swedish band which sounds like Blutengel and Rammstein put in a blender, finished with a tad of Marilyn Manson toppage. I highly enjoyed the band, they make some nice music, and were a great opening band to set the mood. Too bad the sound sucked a bit, or it was just my position standing 10 meters away from some speakers that are supposed to fill a 5500 people hall. Their act is awesome, a freakish singer with his pants down to half 6, oily body and freakish moves. He definitely drew the attention, and that's what they're there for.
The second band was Texas' Flyleaf. A band featuring a hyperactive bass player and a female vocalist. A great band, great performance, and an emo crowd... It took 5 songs before she took away the hair covering her face so I could get a good view of who was actually singing. At first I thought she had a sorta weak sounding voice, well, not really weak, but more like the singer from the Bangles. A split second later she started screaming, doing a great job there :) Not exactly my music, if I want a screaming chick I'll visit Arch Enemy again, she'd tear her apart, eat her up and have Amy Lee for desert :p
Again, a good band to support KoRn, but not my keg of ale. Having some emo lasses scream and wail in your ears does more damage than bassdrum pounding through the speakers itself. So yeah, my biggest fear of that night came true.
Then came the main act, KoRn, we already managed to slip into front, man I love being out to a gig with a girl when the bar is so far out of reach. She goes for the toilet, I hand her a few coins, she she comes back with a nice large glass of beer. Meanwhile the mobile beer dude passed us by as well, so I had my hands full :D Since I didn't know much of KoRn's discography I was very glad we met another couple of which the dude was in the same position I was: Protecting his girl from any mosh pit going on and just enjoying for as far as we knew it. Seeing how he was wearing a Motorhead shirt we had something to talk about: The loudest bands on earth :p Apparently he stood only a few meters away from me during the Gamma Ray and Helloween gig a few weeks ago, also he was there with Hammerfall when we had some Curtains on Fire. My girl managed to get up front completely, so that definitely made her night, meanwhile I could rest assured she'd be safe since in the complete front there's not as much trouble going on. Staying a bit back provides more fun though. Met up with a Tschech dude, awesome guy, started smoking weird **** though, the guy he shared it with mentioned heroine, but what gives. He asked me to give him a push up the crowd. Too bad no one wanted to carry him :p
KoRn put up a great show, playing a lot of old hits, together with the good stuff from their latest album, I recognized most songs because I had a tracklist from another night. Together with the crowd and the guys around me I really had a blast of a night as well, the dude just needs to learn to play bagpipes, his noise was deafening :D The gig ended 20 minutes early, which was a bit of a disappointment, but what we got was a great concert, if she asks me to go with her again I'd be cool with that. Before you ask, I was there because her BF would be completely out of place there, hating the music and most likely to get in a fight with moshers, he's no sportsman :p Besides, a tiny dude like him could do any crowd control either, more likely he'd get trampled under some army boots lol :p
I was glad I was able to give her a great night, she got a personal smile from the singer as well, so she has something to remember. I had an awesome gig with some very entertaining bands, a meet up with an old girlfriend of mine who I hadn't seen in years, and had a rather entertaining night with the good guys out there, I'll just forget the emo crap and the guys who I need to punch in the guts for their problems with my Manowar shirt. But I decided not to give a ****, there's no debating religion anyway. Besides, I was the offender going to a KoRn gig with a Manowar shirt and a Gamma Ray zipper. Hail and Kill ;)

It was definitely a nice experience, the concert I mean, not because they were my fav bands, but just the entire show and atmosphere. Some kids were fighting at the end though, which is something new to me, never see that at concerts where they play "my kind" of metal.

Time to kick some life into this thread again, unfortunately the reason to do so is to announce the death of two bands, two legendary bands for powermetal fans.
The first piece of news is that Timo Tolkki announced that Stratovarius has come to an end. He pulled the plug out of this legendary band that has inspired countless other Scandinavian metalbands.
Second piece of news is that Stefan Elmgren decided to leave Hammerfall and become a full time pilot. Personally a piece of Hammerfall has died for me now that he left, he really made the show with his brilliant guitar solos and endless enthusiasm while playing. A Hammerfall gig won't be the same anymore :(

...Holy ****. That blows. I used to be a big HammerFall fan (I still listen to them in moderation) and I really admired Elmgren's guitaring. I was never really an avid Stratovarius listener though, but the stuff I have heard was really quite good. That's very unfortunate.
In lighter news: Guess who's seeing Alice Cooper in October? That's right. Mako is.
WTF... will they call someone else to replace Elmgren?

Last time, no matter how much the audience sucked, having seen Forever live, and having sung along is something I'll cherish forever. Hunting High and Low is also one of my fav Strato songs, and you can't go wrong with Eagleheart either. How about Black Diamond :(
Nice going there btw Mako! I'll let you know if he's still up for it, because Industrian and I will see him in July when Alice Cooper will play at Magic Circle Festival: Manowar, Alice Cooper, Whitesnake, WASP, Doro, and more to be announced :D

Now I definitely want to go there! Iron Maiden alone was reason enough to take the girls up on their offer, but with Iced Earth and Avantasia on the roster this may turn out the highlight of the year, even more so than Magic Circle Festival. (Okay, Industrian will have my balls for that one :p)
Now I just want to know who will be there with Tobias to perform the Avantasia songs. If they'll play The Seven Angels I won't stand in for the consequences.

Well to us Nu-Metal is mainly an overseas blasphemy, but that comes from a person who appreciates German metal mostly, with the occassional Scandinavian one. But let's not get into that debate, this thread is here for the people who like metal in general, or even old school hard rock, and who just want to say something good about it. We've left the flamefest behind pages ago.
Btw, yesterday a nice addition to my collection of CDs has arrived as well: Iced Earth - Dark Genesis. This package is everything I had hoped for and more. Of course it comes with the early 4 CDs and a album full of Iced Earth covers of the bands that has inspired Schaffer, there's a really nice large booklet with it as well. I have always admired this boxset at a friend's place, you know I have a soft spot for collector's editions ;) So right now it's finally mine, I think I'm the third amongst my friends to have this one, screw CDr copies.
It's nice to hear where the band has started out, it sounds much less refined than their latest album, Something Wicked Part 1, which was my first Iced Earth experience, and a blind purchase at that as well. I do have to note that I did know what to expect since I already have the two Demons and Wizards albums. My friend wasn't wrong when she said Iced Earth has an evil sound to it, these guys know how to write their stuff. A great purchase at €40,- Blame the German dude for selling it in USD, dumbass :p

They played with Rage back then and it's definitely a gig I still have fond memories of.

True, it is nothing compared to Night of the Stormrider, Burnt offerings, Dark saga, or gasp HORROR SHOW! Dark genesis sounds to "redone" however the original still cds' still hold for me, but then again you can't go wrong with the remasters...Note that in The Night of the Stormrider the original singer really did it best on that album, "Travel in Stygian" is a good example.

Well I just have to get used to their old sound a bit since I'm now used to their much more refined Framing Armageddon sound, on which the powermetal influences are much stronger than the thrash ones, as opposed to the first albums. It's pretty cool to hear how the band has evolved though, and that they still have Schaffer's trademark riffs.
I'm usually not a big fan of remastered versions either, mainly because it has messed up a lot of 80s albums in terms of dynamics. I do think that these albums sound relatively good. Although it's kinda hard getting into them, I'm really glad I have them. Angels Holocaust and Travel in Stygian are good songs that grabbed me when I heard them for the first time, the rest needs more time. The song Burnt Offerings is great as well, so those are the three that pretty much stuck.
I wonder what their new album will sound like, seeing how Barlow returned and I really appreciated Owen's vocals. I suppose it will be good, Barlow has one of the most powerful voices I've ever heard, and live he is just amazing. Owens was a bit of a letdown when I saw videos of A Charge to Keep, which happens to be one of the most epic songs I've heard lately.

Cid let me know how silent force is. Their worlds apart cd stayed in my car a long time.
Anyhow, I've been really trying to get into new stuff lately and also getting into older albums that I've missed. Axel Rudi Pell, and even older checking out some bad company (since I love the song shooting star because of Iced Earth).
New side of things. The new symphony X is great. I recommend it to everyone. It's much more edgy but still just as melodic as before. Symphony X is becoming one of my favorite bands very fast. When looking up symphony x on youtube, it sent me to a band I should have been listening to for a while now. Gamma ray. Land of the free part 2 is pretty good, not amazing, but good easy to get into music.
Also thanks to Avantaisa, I've been looking into the the other people's bands. This song by Jorn Lande is just amazing, and uplifting. I can't wait till I get more of this music

Jorn Lande is one of the most amazing singers of his generation, he is one of the main reasons why The Scarecrow is such a great album. Anyway, the Allen/Lande album you got that song from Aided, is highly recommended. I've been listening to it a freaking lot and the lyrics of songs really grabbed me. As for another must have Lande album: Get Masterplan's self titled album, it's one of the best powermetal albums ever made.
A funny story perhaps is that I've been listening to it while having a shower during my Hungarian holiday, and I sang a long with it. I got compliments from the family for my voice actually. Later on I burned the stuff to play it in the car, and got no negative comments at all, just positive replies for the parts I sang along. :heh:
As for the best Lande performance I've seen, with one of my fav metal songs from the Masterplan album, here you go:

Sweet, I'm really going to start listening to them a lot. I remember hearing masterplan once (when they first came out) and not catching my ear. I'll give it another shot, I may not have gotten it at first. We've talked about that with Iced Earth and how they have to grow on me.
Anyhow, man record yourself singing and send it to me. I know we are so far away, but it would be cool to work on some music together.

Hmm, singing in a mic isn't really my strongest point since usually I just sing along to stuff and I'm probably a bit too shy to give it all the power I have. Such situations only occur when there's enough noise to cover up for any terrible mistakes I make :p
I'm about to head off to a concert of Danish prog metal band Royal Hunt. It's something I just remembered this morning when I woke up and it really gave me a great start of the day. Next week, on Saturday, I'll have a gig of Axxis, Freedom Call, Silent Force and The Claymore. I don't really know the last two, but Axxis and Freedom Call both put up great shows. Time for some German Happy Metal ;)

Hey guys, it's me again, back from a concert, well, it was Friday night anyway. If you still have a chance to see Royal Hunt (Official Royal Hunt Website (http://www.royalhunt.com)) I suggest you do. Their show was nothing short from stunning, an example of a band that can play its studio material live even better than in a studio. Their new singer Mark Boals (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Boals) gave such an awesome performance, it really blew me away, he sang every high note on the album, and better by keeping them up longer, rather than being faded out like on Paradox Part 2: Collision Course.
I haven't listened to lot of keyboard-driven metal in quite some time, usually it tires me out rather easily, like stuff from the latest Dragonforce album, Sonata's solo, Stratovarius, Rhapsody, but this is definitely a notch above their quality. Well, I'll let you guys judge yourself anyway, since here's a video from their new album.
Also, there's some pics from after the show, these guys went out of their restroom within 5 minutes to spend an hour with the fans, we stayed a bit, had some pics made, and I even forgot to ask them as them to sign my ticket. :dead: Well at least I got another plectrum for my collection, and a friend of mine even caught a drumstick. The odds were in our favour anyway, with about a 100 people attending, they definitely deserve a sold out venue, the way they played. In the beginning they started out enthusiastically, but there wasn't much interaction, just once the crowd got going it helped a lot. We tried to pull off the same as with Freedom Call in the same venue 2 years ago, just shouting their name, singing along, headbanging, and it definitely helped :heh: One of us was at the back, and he heard a couple of Belgian people say "allée, surely that crazy bunch are Dutch". We took it as a compliment, since we had fun, and the band as well. Another succesful gig attended :D
Rock on guys!

Oh yeah, and I've been listening to Masterplan's first CD, and it's really good. A few songs reminds me more of hard rock stuff, but Songs like Heros really make me think of stratovoius. Only one song I skip over, and don't quote me on it, I think it's number 10.

Easy there Aided, we've had that debate at least twice already in this thread :p
Too bad you had to miss out on Dio and In Flames Bositman, personally I would've gone for Dio, he's a guy I would still love to see live one day. It wouldn't have surprised me if Manowar had announced him to perform on Magic Circle Festival, but unfortunately the lineup is definitive now.
As for Heroes, Aided, the reason why it may remind you of it is because of the chorus, which is where you don't hear Lande's voice, but Michael Kiske's. Number 10 is Bleeding Eyes, it's also my least favourite song, I skip it as well :D Crystal Night is also one of my favourites, especially for the lyrics, which are really good. Glad you like the CD anyway, to me it's one of the powermetal classics. Anyway man, maybe you'll like the videos on the previous page as well, you may have missed them if you hit the "last page" button :)

Yeah, I know we had the debate, but I can't really say sorry for what I believe, so I'll just keep silent unless someone talks to me about it, or something off the wall happens.
I would like to see Dio more, also stated in thread why. Although, even thought I still feel they are bad, (nu)In flames is starting to suck a little less.
Oh, I didn't know that, but also just the way the guitars are, reminds me of eagle heart. I just checked, yeah it is bleeding eyes that I don't like. just sounds not good, I'll just call it a filler song. I want to point out that I love how Lande has some of the most positive lyrics I've ever heard. It's good to hear stuff like that when you are doing something in your life.

Snicktothemule: Only 30 mins? Did something go wrong, or was the band just a support act for the main thing? I can't imagine any band even setting up stuff for just 30 minutes.
Gamefreak: Reviving threads is perfectly fine, if you'd read through this thread you'd see I've done so plenty times, and so did others. As long as it's always on topic and relevant, and can offer the thread a boost for discussion again. Screenshot threads can always be revived as well. Or threads about a particular game, as long as it ain't for a lame reason like "this game rocks" and nothing more being added.
Actually I thought of reviving this one as well, since I got myself the new Iced Earth album, which is starting to grow on me now. There's some songs I can recommend to everyone. "Come what may" has been added to my classics already.

Haha, someone had the balls to revive this one! :D
I got a lot of news about my musical discoveries... let me begin! :D
I am definitely a Progressive Metal fan. For now, it's the musical style that most pleases me. Been digging into this kind of metal for a while now and discovered a lot of cool sounds:
Pain of Salvation: maybe the most known prog metal band after Dream Theater. Pain of Salvation is simply AMAZING, their complexity is amusing. The vocals are far too good, not to mention Daniel's ideas, which are so wicked. I have listened to The Perfect Element I, Remedy Lane (impressive songs), 12:5 and BE (most complex concept album I have ever listened to) albums.
If you don't know PoS yet, try the following songs:
Her Voice and Song For The Innocent (The Perfect Element)
A Trace of Blood, This Heart of Mine, Undertow and Chain Sling (Remedy Lane, but I'll tell you: the entire album is good)
Book III: Genesinister (12:5, their unplugged album)
Lilium Cruentus and Nihil Morari (BE)
Ayreon: Nothing much to add about them. I remember Cid told me about the band a looooooong time ago (it was even discussed in this thread) but I didn't listen (was deeply interested in Demons and Wizards at that time). Now I got two albums from them: The Human Equation and "Y".
The Human Equation is absolute. The story, the singers, the keyboard solos, everything. I almost came when I heard James LaBrie's voice in the second track :D
Opeth: Got the Watershed album. So far so good, prog death metal at it's best. Äkerfeldt's vocals are so flexible, great singer. Keyboards are not that astonishing but still fit their melodies. Hex Omega FTW!
Superior: German band, got only one album unfortunately. :( Younique. It's purely progressive. From rhythms that might recall arabian songs to heavy metal excerpts, Superior is a band worth of analysis. If you are not into progressive sounds, don't even hear their songs. It's for freaks only. ;)
Free Minded, This Promise and Think are my favs.
Derek Sherinian: Dream Theater's Keyboardist from 1995 to 1998. Got his solo album, Mythology. Instrumental (not only keyboards only tho), I love it. From heavy to quiet and calm songs, a must for instrumental music fans.
As for Progressive discoveries, I think those are the most important for me.
Anyone listened to Metallica's Death Magnetic? :D
Mako Eyes
October 5th, 2008, 16:27
stuff.
Hell yeah. That's what I'm talking about! I'm a sucker for progressive music too; my CD rack is loaded with Dream Theater, Opeth, and Pink Floyd. All with a little touch of Rush (I'm just getting into them, sadly. I plan to pick up more albums in the near future).
I want to find more prog metal bands and I've never heard of most of the ones you listed there, so I'll be damn sure to check them out. Thanks for the list!
By the way: I agree, Watershed is incredible. It really beats the living piss out of their last album. Reveries blew ass.
EDIT:
Anyone listened to Metallica's Death Magnetic? :D
I have, but I can't say I enjoyed it. I'll admit, it's a great breath of fresh air for Metallica since, I don't know, 10 years or so ago, but I just find Metallica's music un-enjoyable. I don't know why, they just don't appeal to me for some reason.

Their shows are great, tank up on beer and have a blast yelling along the lyrics that make no sense and enjoying the metal circus. They're a one trick pony though, and can't even play together, the drummer and guitarists are all very skillful, but they simply lack the ability to play in sync and write decent stuff.
Valley of the Damned was great, Sonic Firestorm was arguably better, then it just got boring, since the second was already more of the same.
As for the new Metallica, I heard one or two songs last Saturday, the thing that struck me most was that the song was decent, but it sounded like overly compressed tin can crap.

I thought Metallica had ended when I heard St. Anger, fortunately this CD proved otherwise. I reckon Jason's departure healed the band, somehow they started to sound less metal-like since he joined. No disrespect of course, he's a great bassist.
As for DragonForce I must admit I first run into their music in GHIII, but I do enjoy it nonetheless. Lost Soul in Endless Time is class. I do not like ppl complaining about various bands, if you don't like it, don't listen to it, period. Sorry, but ranting on one band or the other only because you don't like it is childish. I don't like Slayer, and so what? Meh.

Galson, I couldn't agree more. I gave up reading comments at Youtube, especially those made on my Dragonforce - Fury of the Storm video. That one has over a 250.000 views now, the amount of comments and flames coming are like an inhuman rampage. It's astounding how many retards there are on the internet. Today one called me a nerd for not having put up the right title for the song, let's say I put him right
The only time I will get into an argument about music is when someone claims something is the absolute best and a technical marvel while the band is average at best.

I've been listening to them since 2003-2004, not long after the release of their first album, Valley of the Damned. Back then, they were good, but all of their successive albums exhibit a loss in quality. I own Valley of the Damned and I still love it.
I'm not dropping on DragonForce simply because I don't like them. There's nothing wrong with liking the band, they do make good music. I'm just kind of annoyed at the fact they're taken so seriously when they lack technique of any kind and they openly admit to being just a fun, satirical band and that they have no serious quality in their writing whatsoever.

I didn't mean to point fingers here or anything like that, I just get sick and tired with so called musical experts claiming to know everything and judging various bands and people who listen to their music (like - you like DragonForce? Then you're a ******); biased "experts" who can't really see beyond the tips of their own noses, can't discuss about anything in a reasonable manner. Unfortunately as Cid pointed out, the internet is full of them. Ignorance is bliss here I suppose.
Ironically this thread's title is "Metalheads unite" :>

I don't understand... I thought I was discussing this in a reasonable manner oO
I didn't take the "omg this band sux!!1" approach. I told you what I thought of them, I justified my opinion, and even admitted to liking them myself.
Oh well, there are more important things to argue about in this thread anyway. This is one of my favorite threads here, so I'd hate to see it get closed because of some silly argument over DragonForce.

Valley of the Damned was the second album I heard from them and I was amazed at the difference between it and Inhuman Rampage, but I found myself listening to Valley more than anything else. I just love that raw sound that comes through (which is the same reason I love the older Metallica albums). Dragonforces new stuff may be more of the same, but I like that style. One of the songs from their new album which to me were a welcome change to their regular routine is The last Journey home which is much slower, but in many cases a much stronger song than the rest of their stuff.

Well, I like staind, audioslave, dope, p.o.d, puddle of mudd and finger eleven because they have some heavy or fast paced songs and also songs I like listening to before falling asleep - they are very soothing and comforting, when my GF is not around.
I like listening to bands like drowning pool, sevendust and SYL (strapping young lad) when my mind gets too clouded with anger and rage because their songs are so heavy sometimes that they push it all far, far away.
Bottom line I like these bands and especially the songs I gave as examples because they have a good mental effect on me when my andorphin levels aren't sky-high ;)

OKAY GUYS TIME TO BRING THE THREAD BACK NOW
I saw Alice Cooper on October 23, and just recently I finally got the pictures back from my friend. SO NOW I'M GOING TO SHARE MY EXPERIENCE
I ordered tickets in July we managed to get pretty frikken close to the stage. We could have reached out and touched them.
Some Canadian alt-metal band known as Econoline Crush opened for them. They were okay, but not really my cup of tea. Let's face it though; nobody in the stadium was there to see them. It was all about Alice Cooper. We met up with some other friends that night, but they had to stay in the stands because they couldn't get floor tickets. However, the girl that was with me decided to sneak one of them down on the floor by using her ticket. The scheme worked and herein lies an interesting story.
This friend of hers is a rather Gothic dresser; Always wears black or deep purple makeup and clothing and has jewelery and tattoos depicting the macabre. For the record though, she is a very nice, cheerful and bubbly girl (an opinion taken by my own intuition and the claims of other people as well). Basically, she dresses the part, but don't bring a cloud of gloom and depression with her wherever she goes, which makes her a rather respectable Goth.
Anyway, she has a fairly wild black/purple hairdo. The entire duration of the show, Keri Kelli, Alice Cooper's guitarist, was staring and throwing picks in our direction. At first I never thought much of it because he spent most of his time on that side of the stage. His intentions soon became obvious though: He really wanted that girl to have a pick.
All three of us managed to get one of Kelli's picks by the end of the show, though she was the last person of our group to catch one at the very end when he was tossing them out like candy, but he wasn't satisfied with that. After the show was over, he pointed to her and said "Hey you, come here. I like your hair." And personally handed her his necklace. It was awesome and, needless to say, she was tripping balls. She even had tears in her eyes.
Anyway, the show was absolutely fantastic. Alice Cooper has always been a performer. I can't remember (nor do I know) all of the songs he played, but he did do some of my favorites such as I'm Eighteen, Is it My Body, Elected, and of course some others.
He really likes to put on a show. At one point, one of his daughters (she, her sister, and Cooper's wife were all part of the performance) came out with a baby carriage. Alice came up behind her with a "knife" and drew it across her throat, causing fake blood to SPEW EVERYWHERE. Then he sang Dead Babies as he paraded the carriage back and forth. Then he took the baby from the carriage (a doll of course) and it had its face painted like his and had long fangs. It bit Alice's neck, so he pounded a steak into the doll and then paraded around stage with it.
Naturally, infanticide is frowned upon, so a bunch of his robe and hood-wearing stage goons came on and put him in a straight jacket. Then he sang Ballad of Dwight Fry as he escaped the straight jacket.
Now, Dwight Fry is one of my most favorite Alice Cooper songs ever. So naturally I was absolutely tripping balls during the performance. I was actually yelling and singing throughout the duration of the entire show, let alone just this song. Apparently I was very audible, which is odd because I couldn't even hear myself. My guest had to inform me after the show and I'm hoping I didn't make the experience any less enjoyable for anyone.
Anyway, after Dwight Fry he escapes off stage, but the goons catch him again and put him in the jacket. Then they bring out a gallows. They put the noose around his neck and dropped the trap door. It was awesome beyond words. Obviously, there was a safety harness holding his weight and you could see barely the clip underneath the noose. Once they wheeled him offstage, still hanging from the gallows, the rest of the band plays I Love the Dead.
Then, the lights go dark, and they come back again. And there is Alice Cooper standing center stage wearing a white suit and top hat while sporting a cane. He sang School's Out at this point. Other highlights of the show include him parading an effigy of himself around, and there were guys dressed as Obama and McCain fighting during Elected. There were awesome guitar and drum solos too.
It was a first rock concert for both me and my guest's friend, and I'll be damned if it could ever be topped. My guest has been to many rock concerts (at least six, surely) and even she said this one ranks as a close second.
Pictures are attached. I thought I'd just share my story and also revive the thread. Because it is awesome.

well I haven't loged in here for a while, but I'm here saying that I have started to record some of my music and hopefully will start to find some members here soon. Anyhow Celestrial Reign on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads (http://www.myspace.com/celestrialreign) has three songs, it seems myspace distorted the windfall (the midi I uploaded a while ago on this forum) recording so it doesn't sound as good as it should. I will try to fix that later.
Note: they are demo's so there are mistakes and recording is a little crappy.

Whoah Mako, I'm sorry for missing out on your post man. I think I had a visitor here for 10 days and thus the thread was out of the picture again. It's great reading you had such a great night! It seems like it's about the same show Industrian and I saw at Magic Circle Festival last Summer. These guys are awesome on stage, I was so thrilled by the show, and I'm not even an Alice Cooper fan, simply never listened to his stuff. The hanging was really a great moment, never seen such an intense stage act. Industrian told me they would do that on stage, still I didn't expect it to happen that night. As for the girl, man I'm happy for her. I love it when bands get to that personal level with their fans, I'm a collector of such souvenirs myself as well. My biggest catch is a drum stick of Avantasia's drummer, but never have I heard of a present like that. Great! :D

Thanks for your words Cid, it's great to hear someone enjoys something you have created. Anyhow, I just ordered a new head for my 4x12 and a new mic that is designed to record guitars and not pianos or wind instruments (yeah kind of odd, I know) , so I plan on perfecting my guitar sound. I also got better sounding drums, still not what I want but a good sound. Maybe when I get my own set or if I get a drummer.

I've been going out of my mind today! Manowar announced a Dutch concert date! :D:D:D
Of course I had an alternative planned, meaning I'd go across the German border to Köln (Cologne), but this is even better as it is our regular metal place about an hour from here. The best thing: They have two places to get beer in front of the stage, so we'll be getting pished during Majesty / Metalforce and Holyhell, and going crazy during Manowar.
Adding to that, I've been getting hyped up for Jorn (Lande) coming to Holland, he's got three dates, all within 2 hours from here. Given he's one of the gods we'll worship till the day we die we plan to go at least twice to let the man know who his real fans are. Last time he had not so much audience, so we'll be happy to fill up the place twice. Now let's hope he'll do "We Rock" by Dio, and the guys at the office won't know what happened to my voice.
Speaking of which, Dio will be coming as well, on the 3rd of December. Jorn comes first though.

Just got Rammsteins new album liebe ist fuer alle da.....a short review of the same thing
1.Rammlied...An awesome song with some nice guitar riffs going thru the back, its a very fast paced song with slow start that tends to go for ever(upto the one minute mark)......3.5/5
2.Ich tu dir weh...The best song in the album according to me...the chorus parts are done beautifully....typical rammstein formula followed here slow at the start and gradually picks up beats up till the 2 minute mark and then the chorus magic takes over and gets the listeners on a high. 5/5
3.Waidmanns heil:...the song starts out with a a very very fast pace, excellent vocals and great fast paced druming and guitar thing in it. 4.5/5
4.*****.....another gud song...it didnt not lived up to its hype i guess but anyways a good song would give it 3.5/5
5.Fruhling in paris:....slow paced track with super sexy work on vocals.i love this song and its chorus....4/5
6.mehr:......good song 4/5
7.liebe ist fur......medium song....should have been more impactfull being the title song of the gr8 album.....3/5
6.e****** and others:well they fill up the album...didnt get much connection with these songs all of them score 3/5
All in all an awesome album 10/10 for the album .....their best after mutter i guess, these guys rock \m/.....hope one day i get to see them live in performance........

It's always good looking forward to the next gig. I can't wait for February either. The 28th of January there's gonna be a Manowar gig in Holland, and early February Gamma Ray will be nearby. And it won't be just Gamma Ray, but they're supported by Freedom Call!! :D Most likely we'll be getting pished with the guys from Freedom Call while enjoying Gamma Ray.
Which reminds me, where you by any chance at Gamma Ray's concert that was recorded for their DVD Chrono?

Jorn - We Brought The Angels Down
Filmed with my new Canon Ixus 110IS @ 720p 30fps. The sound isn't fully perfect, though it has a better presentation of the instruments. I think it chokes on the bass, so it might need some slight editing to make it a bit lighter. My old Sony could handle it easier, but in return I could hardly hear any bass and bassdrum on my videos.

In that case: Get the DVD and start memorizing, if you like powermetal it won't disappoint. It's as good as it gets for the genre and they really play a great selection of songs.

Oh yeah that reminds me. I bought Jorn's newest cd a while back. It seems a little more simple and on the hard rock side, but it's still pretty good. Also, when I was listening to "I walk alone" it took me about a minute and half to figure out it was Tarja's song. Kind of an odd choice if you ask me.
Also while I'm here, I have a new song up. My friend was able to help me place the mic a little better, so it should sound a good bit better, let me know.

True, but eventually I got to like the Tarja cover. He certainly rips through it with his voice, altering the atmosphere quite a bit. There's also an old song from his Vagabond era on it (City In Between).
Listening to Creating the Grey Area now, I like it a lot. Symphonic and melodic, nice breakdown as well.

yeah I like it too, I wasn't downing it, just seems odd to me. The only I don't really like is the reggae sound to it, but it's still cool since it as you said alters the atmosphere.
Once again thank you. I'm glad someone likes it, haha. It's quiet an odd song for me, and I plan on working on more tword that style. More balance between the keys and guitar. Also break down part always reminds of what death could have sounded like if they had a keyboard player.

Hmm, I might make some MP3s, I'm not sure. All those songs are really just demos.
I think after Christmas I will start posting fliers to try to get some band members. I'm so sick of playing with myself (heh heh) but it's also hard to find people with the same interests as me...around here it's rap, country, and people that can buy acoustic guitars but shouldn't play them that run the show.

Bah...
Just got some emails stating I earned my second strike. Next one and my account will be terminated. Now I can kinda understand the ones I received today, as it involved some quality live footage of songs from Gamma Ray's latest album, To The Metal.
The first one is truly ridiculous though, as it was just a couple of friends of mine doing a cover of Enter Sandman. It's not like they're making money with it or so, it's just for fun.
I've been on good standing with a lot of bands though, and whenever I get the chance I'll try to talk to the bands I see and film, and ask them their permission to put them online. Most of them argue "well it's gonna happen anyway, as everyone does it" or they simply find it cool as long as it's good quality. My best experiences for this are with Jorn, Freedom Call and Stratovarius, who were all rather happy to get some free promotion. Kinda sad to see how this message came directly from Kai Hansen, who I personally consider to be one of my heroes as his music has always been dear to me. Lately I've been putting links to the webpages of the band in the description, trying to look things a bit more professional and to simply generate more traffic towards their homepage. I suppose it didn't pay off this time.
The suckiest thing is that with a third strike I'll be out, and most likely all my videos will be deleted as well, which would certainly be a big loss. Not that I don't have local backups of course, but as of now there's almost a million views, 5000 channel views and 43 subscribers. The reason I actually started it is to share it with guys like Miretank, who don't have the luxury of seeing these bands live as often as I do. What's worse, there's a load of videos still online with the CD version playing with an album cover. oO
Oh well, enough ranting. Better stay on the safe side in the future. What'd you think? Time for a new account for high risk videos? Or just give up on risky stuff altogether?

Before I keep putting this off, I want to retract one of my statements.
Sonata Arctica's Unia is honestly not that bad, just maybe not what you want, give it a try. With that note I bought their newest cd without even listening to it, and it's pretty decent as well, has a hint of their first cd on it (my favorite).
Also Finally got myself into Kalmah, God i love this band. It's been a while since I've listen to some melodic death, and this hits the spot just right.
Also, Smooth crimnal, I watched that first video of DR, not real big into stuff that's more alone black metal, but that might be a band I come back too, they seem alright. Thanks.

I simply believe us metalheads shouldn't lower ourselves to this kind of stuff. It makes no sense arguing with idiots who simply do not understand that tastes can differ. This goes to people from any kind of music. It's simple music that can be the best at times, pure cheesy pulp can be very enjoyable.
On the other hand. Metal's more than our religion, it's the only way to live ;)

Justin Bieber and Hannah Montana and all those other are making actual music. But everyone with a brain is smart enough to leave it be instead of sending it to North-Korea. That does not mean that i like that crap, im just saying they deserve Antarctica or something, not communist glory :P
But on a serious note, Cid is absolutely right. Fully agree with him on this one.

correction : Justin Bieber and Hannah Montana and all those other are SINGING TO music
They are not song writers nor composers , they are merely performers , where the actual working people are behind the curtain .
that is what I like about metal , write your own music , play your own music and sing to your own music

lol, that's so true Noja. Some of those church folk are just too darn ignorant when it comes to things such as music and other "evil" influences.
Last weekend's been a good one for me. On Friday we went to Jorn Lande, which had this nice little band called Magion opening up for them. They play music that reminded me a lot of After Forever, and it sounded pretty solid. A video will be uploaded soon.
Jorn simply rocked. The only downside was the setlist, which hasn't been changed too much in the past 2 years, and it contains way too little uplifting songs, so the gig just chugs along at a slow pace. This could be done much better if they'd simply add more recognizable songs that are a bit faster, as his discography has a lot to offer. The performance was top notch really, Jorn has a fantastic band surrounding him with a lot of personality. Even while Jorn himself draws most of the attention, it's far from a one man show. His voice was stunning, once again he blew us away. When I thought he might be a bit tired, as it sounded like he needed to force himself a bit more, his enthusiasm made him hit most of the high notes, and when Song for Ronnie James kicked in, he sang his heart out. It was a fantastic night, despite the lackluster setlist.
Yesterday we went to see Freedom Call. Now if there's one band that's always giving us a hell of a party, it's these German guys. It was the 4th time this year that we saw them, and again we had a blast. It was the first show of the tour, and they found the perfect balance between old songs and new ones. The only one we missed was "A Perfect Day", as it's such a typical FC song that really works out well when played live. The guys asked us to have a beer with them after the show, which we did. We got invited to their show in Pratteln (Switzerland) where they will do a DVD recording. If we will be able to make it, they'd put us up on the guestlist. Friggin' awesome :D
Videos will follow soon, uploading 4GB of footage on a 1Mbit line doesn't really work well.

Yeah, I realize I probably live in the best country when it comes to this type of music. We hardly ever get left out when a band plans its tours, and even if they don't come to The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany isn't too far either.
