Would just like to comment on the cdz format, great initiative!! Compressed images take a lot less space on the hd and the speed wasn t decreased on my machine one notch, really nice!! Wish other authors would start using cdz compression. Anyway very nice touch, nice inovation!! Now if the author just adds some image filters and d3d hardware support to clean a bit the resolution this one would be at the top of the list! Amazing first time release!! :lol:

WinXP has built-in the ability to compress files and folders. It's an option on the properties dialog box. Works just fine for images. Saved me about 9G out of 44.

CDZ isnt some new invention, Mooby's CDR plugin has been able to load compressed ISOs for ages ;)

That only works for ntfs drives and takes foreverrrrrr....

Anyone ever try out Neill Corlett's ECM program? It will easily shave off over 10% of the size of an image. Check his site for more info.

i think the point of the emulator was that it had little or nothing to configure, thus resulting in very high compatibility. a lot of people are saying "add this and that!" which is all with good intent....however the fact of the matter is that it seems it will go against the original intent of the author..

Most people with Win2K/XP will be using NTFS. The compression of a 650MB ISO takes roughly 1-2 minutes (understandable, since it takes zip about that long - can't expect it to be instant now, can we?), and once compressed, that's it, never needs to be uncompressed again. There is also no speed hit associated with it.

There is something interesting I noticed. I can compress a file, through WinXP (and my partition is NTFS), and even though the 'size on disk' is lower, it stills occupies the same amount of space as it did prior to compressing.

yes there is; I had CD-Audio problems in pSX when using CD-Z images....

That's how NTFS works. You are saving space - the file itself is occupying less disk space as it is compressed with the LZ77 compression algorithm (but effectively works like an uncompressed file).

Well, I wasn't talking about CD-Z.

cdz then? Or I misread...
anyways, I'm having a performance hit in cd reading speed with cdz images in pSX emulator; it only seems to happen with cd-audio games though..

cdz is a very good idea :)
although only pSX can read it, it gives a very good result in saving space.
For example:
Legend of Mana 419/646 => 64.8%
Dragon Quest 4 249/366 => 68%
Good work!
I tried bz.index and z.table from mooby, but it still have a lot of files to save(not just like a "single" cdz file)

I agree 100%
Graphically, other than Fixing GTE bugs, it doesn't need anything. The only requests I have are for simple things like insert PSX cd, it auto runs (Provided PSX emu is running) or holding all four shoulder buttons and hitting start= emulated console reset...
