Tri-Ace said they would be unveiling a new RPG at Jump Festa 2006.

This scan was posted on 2ch. The poster claimed this was Valkyrie Profile 2 for the PS2.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y147/crho/vp2.jpgor perhaps not. Time will tell unless it gets canned before it is unveiled.

Iirc, the story ended, there is not too much space for a sequel without making a "free version" deviated from the myths they used originally. Buuuuuutttttt, i'd like one too, the first one was one of my psx favorites games, i even have the Ost.

the original didnt really excite me that much, perhaps it was the extreme openendedness of it...

I hope they don't make a sequel. My standards would be set far too high.

I hope they make a sequel without the problems of the first one! I loved that game even with it flaws.

I'd like it only if they keep it 2D... chances of that happening, hrmm... i got 0.00034% :)

2D with HD for the PS3 now that'd look great... I hope it'll make a comeback.

I think Valkyrie might be running out of clothes oO Anyhow, I'd love a sequel to the game. On a side note, loved her in Radiata :D

What you mean we'll see her nude in the next game?

From another MB, this is supposed to be a prequel. I'm looking forward to it, but VP seemed like a bunch of mini-anime episodes, which made it my sort of game.

Did anyone else notice that the Valkyrie on that picture is NOT Lenneth? Interesting...

Katsuya

Yes, it is her sister.

They are Alyssa and Silmeria I have heard.

Well, Silmeria did have a small role in the first game. (but her armor was red)

Taisen

The title of the game is Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria as you can see in the scan. Supposedly these scans come from Shonen Jump that won't be out until Monday. We'll know more at Jump Festa which is the 17th and 18th iirc.

We can also expect the original to be ported to the PSP as VP:Lenneth.

Ohh, no it's being developed by square-enix ?!?!?!? so much for that game.

Puh, I shouldn't trust gamespot so much :) it appeas they don't know different between a publisher and a developer.. it's still tri-ace... that's a relief!

There is a god! Or should I say, There is an Odin!

On PSP too, VP is the perfect game to play on a handheld (quick play time between periods nad save it). Might have to get a PSP now.....or whenever it comes.

Let me disagree, I spent 4 hours in a dungeon on hard between the saves.

Let me disagree, I spent 4 hours in a dungeon on hard between the saves. Lemme guess: Sunken Shrine? I just finished it (almost died in front of the ONLY SAVE POINT)!!!

BTW: There's always the good old built-in standby function.

Just trek back to a save spot :p. ANd I'm sure they'll add insta save / insta reload kinda things that most any RPG has on handhelds anyway ;).

I never played on hard, just normal. I love the combat in this game...playing again, on normal (this news got me in the mood). This time through ePSXe, it looks pretty nice now ^_^ (when I first tried it in ePSXe, sound was all messed up, it got choppy when moving room to room / area to area [still does that rarely now], and the 3d portions were horrid :p).

Solution to your 4 hour problem though, don't play on hard ;).

F-3582
December 11th, 2005, 09:40
You should definitely try it on hard. It's actually lots better that normal, because you can max your characters even more than you could on normal. And let's not forget those cool additional dungeons (I adored Clockwork Mansion for its amazing visuals)

Hyuga
December 11th, 2005, 14:08
I agree with F-3582, VP should be played only on hard mode or you will lose many aspects of the game.

Just a moment ago I went to the official VP:Silmeria page and it had the same PS2 screen shot. So it seems legit, and now I too am in the same predicament as D.D. with games likes these a PS3 seems get farther and farther from my list.

Hmmm... that picture with Odin and Freya (I suppose this is the beginning movie)... Since when did she have blond hair?!? She doesn't actually look like the original Freya AT ALL (despite her clothes)!

BTW: Did anyone play Star Ocean 3? I mean, when looking at that hires (let's say: higher res) screenshot, I would say that VP:Silmeria is still rendered by the good old SO3 engine.

D.D.
December 12th, 2005, 16:41
thanks for the link taisen.

it seems that the psp screenshots are just 1 from the ingame and the other one is just a movie screenshot. that makes more sense to me now because i was wondering why the psp is suddenly capable of such crazy gfx! they claim that the psp version isn't a straight port of the ps original (altho it is a remake) and they say it has been adapted (among other differences) to take advantage of the psp's widescreen format.

the gamewatch version of the ps2 screenshot is bigger and from what i can see, it is also very impressive however if u ask me it may be prerendered backgrounds ...

they propose that the girl with the sword on the bridge for the ps2 version mite be the main character but i think u guys already mentioned that .

F-3582
December 12th, 2005, 17:37
I don't think that the VP:Silmeria backgrounds are prerendered. As I said, the SO3 engine should be perfectly capable of such graphics. Since there'll be 2D movement only, you will never see the entire level at once making such visuals possible.

D.D.
December 12th, 2005, 17:39
hmm. but the site says that even bumps and lumps are present O__O i dont remember seeing bumpmapping that in SO3...

ChankastRules
December 12th, 2005, 18:14
What are you people talking about?!?! I thought it'd be in 2d just like before?!?

F-3582
December 12th, 2005, 21:51
Well, technically the PS2 is able to do all those effects the Xbox is known for (including bump/normal mapping, pixel shaders etc.). I'm not sure if any of those effects - besides pixel shaders - were used in SO3, but I guess that it should be no problem to implement.

Chankast, of course it will be the same old 2D movement as the original had. The point is that those cool backgrounds can now be rendered in real-time and as it seems to me, tri-ace is gonna do exactly that.

ChankastRules
December 12th, 2005, 22:23
I sure hope not what would be the point of that? the entire point with pre-rendered 2d is that you can use as many polygones as you want making them look great.

Huh? You mean it's working now?? One of my very first questions long long ago in this forum was on how to get that infernal game to work. I needed to Bleem->VGS->PEC combo it to work!

Cool... just hope then don't screw it up...

Lobo
December 13th, 2005, 07:44
Yeah it works. Playing it now (and played it...shoot, at least two years ago emulated). The only problem I have now is weird pauses between screens / into battle (it waits for the disc to spin up -- I wish I could just make it so the disc would constantly spin instead of spinning up and down up and down...breaks the tempo of the game a lil' bit).

F-3582
December 13th, 2005, 09:28
Lobo, look at the portrait, not the sprite. Don't you think that her hair colour is slightly red (you might want to turn off the scanlines :D)? And in the original opening movie Freya's hair colour could even be considered auburn...

http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/4803/freya9uo.th.jpg (http://img233.imageshack.us/my.php?image=freya9uo.jpg)

Chankast, I don't wanna clash with you. In my opinion the PS2 is perfectly capable of rendering those graphics in real-time which should look the best in my humble opninion. Who knows, tri-ace might need the disk space for something else... If you think that those graphics have to be pre-rendered, I respect that as well.

The opening movie is a small piece (and the others) of how much I see her. And the portrait still looks blonde to me, just dirty blonde instead of flat blonde. Freya's Strawberry Blonde in norse mythololgy too. Which is pretty much like dirty blonde, but you are right about some red in her hair in the portrait ;).

And I like scanlines too much to turn them off. Things look too...weird without them I get used to how it looks on a TV and want to have something similar to that, but with thinner lines.
