The screenshots forum definitely isn't a good place to talk about your favorite Need for Speed title. Hence why I will be moving it to off-topic software.

I've been to Thailand last summer, and from what i've seen, you really can't do much car chasing there with all that traffic in Bangkok. ;)

NFS 5 porshe.. I love the Porshe driver training.. Luckily I figured a way to use D3d with my voodoo 5 on this game.. Normally it would just use glide which isn't too good with this game.. Uses a lot light sourcing and textures.. Glide can only use vertex light sourcing in this game.. Or else there are graphic curruption.. things turn white.. But with d3d, you can use the other light source option which is more accurate and it runs flawlessly.. Had to do some registry tweaks to get it running on a voodoo 5 with d3d.. Why didn't EA have an option to use d3d or glide?

nfs5...but not the psx version, the pc version (which is totally different and ten times better, IMO)

I highly doubt they will.... since this game is not developed by EA themselves, plus it seems like this game is not really part of the NFS series.... it looks suspect... looks too much like EA trying to rehash an old game, get someone else to improve the graphics and whatnot, and earn more $$$$$ in a short span. To me, the screenies look too much like NFS3/NFS4.. considerably improved, yes, but I still think NFS5 looks so much better.

Oh, and for which NFS I like.... it's a tie between NFS5 and NFS:SE. NFS5 because of the awesome graphics + cool gameplay, and NFS:SE for the GREAT gameplay.

well, the original nfs(se) and nfs5 were both done by EA canada, obviously the better nfs team :)

not that 3 and 4 are bad....but I even like 2, which many people think sucks.

Samor

dunno bout you but i do prefer those techno+grunge rounds with car racing games.. kinda adds to the "fast" feeling i guess..

would you be referring to industrial rock / heavy met guitar sounds in quake and games like that?

haha!:D, destruction derby.. that brings back memories.. hehe.. your goal: kill and destroy them all! haha!:D

Samor

heh...
I had screamer (well, the demo) just after it came out, running on my father's new pentium 75.....I had a hard time not to drool over the keyboard ;)

before that we had a nes and a gameboy, so you can imagine how big that difference was :)

did you ever play any of the Test Drive games?.. i also like those ones.. and I also remember running Daytona on my p133.. drool.. hehehe:D

Samor
November 2nd, 2001, 18:46
Of the newer ones I like Test Drive 5 a little...the other ones (4 and 6) have really bad controls...
test drive: lemans on the DC is very good though (but the pc version sucked)

Samor

I have Daytona USA and the Deluxe version on my pc and Daytona 2001 on the DC :)

My fav. track is simply the first one (the oval).

the original Daytona on pc is a straight saturn port (which was ported from the arcade so it's a sort of arcade port ;)) but it had it's flaws...the deluxe version is better, especially with the d3d patch since that made the game much smoother and daytona 2001 is good too...the DC controller isnt that nice in daytona though.....
the arcade version is still the best...and Daytona USA 2 of course, unfortunately never ported to a console or pc.

yeah, td4 had really bad controls.. but maybe it was my slow pc.. i like td5 coz i could hack the game and modify the cars with my own grahics as well as modify car attributes by hacking through some files.. yes i know its cheating.. but sure is fun to have a tortoise creaming a ferrari.. :D:D:D

I only have the original version of daytona for the pc, heck its in software mode all the way.. i don't really know if there's a d3d patch, but i don't really mind.. i've gotten so used to the graphics it looks quite good to me anyway.. :D

Samor
November 2nd, 2001, 18:57
modifying :) I used to do that a lot with Grand Prix 2...even made a fantasy carset for it together with someone else :) and another bigger modification by myself (looking back, it sucks, but back then I was pretty proud of it (hey, I did it all with paintbrush :p))

Xeven
November 2nd, 2001, 19:02
paintbrush? yeah me too! :D, my tortoise van looks more like an upsidedown dismembered part of a big drum.. but hey, it was fast as hell, but i could never control it that much too.. guess it was just too damn fast.. :D

now i remember one game i used to play with crappy graphics and all (coz of my old computer) motocross madness.. hehe.. too bad you couldn't do handstands on your bike..:D

Samor
November 2nd, 2001, 19:07
in motocross madness I liked the fact that if you managed to get on the hills at the side of the track, you were "shot away" :)

Samor
November 2nd, 2001, 19:09
heh, everything ran crappy on that p75, but I thought it was cool ;)

or maybe it WAS cool and I'm just spoiled nowadays ;)

like if the frame rate isnt at least 25 I'm not playing it ;)

Xeven
November 2nd, 2001, 19:27
i never had a p75, i had a 486dx, a p133 then a p166 (classic) in the old days.. nyaha! i once played ff7 on the p166, and the chocobo racing game was probably running at < 10 fps or something.. well i guess nowadays it'd really suck if you are running a racing game without any 3d hardware at all and with an fps of < 20 or something.. that'd really suck..:eyes:

Samor
November 2nd, 2001, 19:39
i used to run grand prix 2 at 320x200, 13fps and full detail (except no textured sky and no detail in the rear view mirrors) and I was very happy with it :)
In fact, I ran everything at 320x200....if it ain't at least 800x600 now it's **** ;) ...and 800x600 is the bare minimum for me...I run every game except nfs5 at 1024x768 (for some reason nfs5 runs relatively slow on my pc when compared to other games).

Xeven
November 2nd, 2001, 19:47
yeah, well back in the old days we really didn't have any choice.. i remember writing graphics/demo programs at 320x200 back then.. looked cool then, but all so sucky now.. :( yeah nowadays i run most of my games at 1024x768 too at full fps too, but some games really bastardized having this capabilities that exist now, all graphics and no freaking gameplay whatsoever.. oh well..

Samor
November 2nd, 2001, 20:17
that, and the lack of different games
it seems nowadays a pc can only have fps, rts and rpg and nothing else :(

Xeven
November 2nd, 2001, 20:44
well, technology has come a long way.. too bad commercialism had to go along with it.. heck even playing mario on a gameboy is much better than playing some wanabee "shoot me coz im too stupid to run away while my as$ is being fried" game, not to mention those damn "built me a billion units and kill the enemy" strategy games.. likey whatever happened to thinking you're way out of a tight spot? geesuz..:eyes:

Samor
November 3rd, 2001, 10:37
playing mario on a gameboy wouldnt be so bad if they didnt pick an old game and re-used it for the third time :(
