I haven't posted a thread for a long time here, but since I'm getting a 2mbit cable connection next week, I couldn't resist :) After nearly 7 years on dialup (56k, at our old house, 44k here, and 14k under linux. yes, I was using 14k at some times) and borrowing my neighbour's mbit connection, brining my HD to friends to get the latest anime fansubs, I can finally leech with my own connection. I have to pay most of it myself, but it's worth it. the biggest hindrance was to get permission from my parents, but now it's done. omg I am happy. :D

I don't think you will ever go back from broadband at all since most of the times it's cheaper than 56k to begin with. Congratulations and welcome to the club ;)

Anime sucks. You could at least download something useful with that new connection.

I sugest checking out CGtalk's animation section (http://forums.cgsociety.org/forumdisplay.php?f=154) . They have some cool stuff on that forum, its as if it was made for a cable connection.

As long as you don't have a monthly bandwidth cap, Cable is awesome. Bandwidth caps suck ;)
Congrats SnakeBite!

Congrats on the upgrade, I know I felt it when I upgraded in October 2003. :)

Not much of that happens anymore. At about 5:30PM(pst) recently, I downloaded at about a mb/sec (had to download XP from Microsoft), with a 600+mb file. Cooled down a bit near the end, but it was still at around 950kb/sec from there. I'd say the bandwidth sharing problem is behind us. :p

I helped out some neighbours yesterday, who are still on 56k. That's when I really noticed how slow it was back then.
Funny fact: They had internet problems, but the problem actually was that dad wanted to visit a ,nl instead of .nl site. I guess some parents also need supervision :p

Reminds me of when I was fixing my parent's computer. My mother didn't know it was off, haha. She's since learned (this was several years ago), and we've upgraded to such problems as "Why is the printer printing rubbish?" and goodies like the speakers obeing off. :)
