Yay for planning ahead. Since I was using 1600x1200 on my other monitor, I decided to just grab 1920x1200 versions where I could anyway since the 1600x1200 versions are usually just cropped from them anyway. So, I'd end up with the same thing, but also have 1920x1200 sources in case I ever moved to that or 1080p. It worked out well (though I forgot with some, I only had to hunt a few down I really wanted, and found them all).

Yeah I've been getting 1920x1200 versions the whole time if I can as well. I don't save much bandwidth going for 1680x1050 and they won't look that good if I ever get a bigger screen.

Even if the aspect ratio is right, I like to get native when I can (at least for aspect ratio), but in my case, it made alot sense to grab 1920x1200 since I was using 1600x1200, and those were usually cropped from the 1920x1200 ones anyway, so they're still 1:1 pixel correct, so it's usually end up the same (unless it wasn't cropped to the center, but still).

Using 1920x1200 in place of 1680x1050 does make sense too for forward thinking. It works for now, and will work for the future with either 1920x1200 or even 1920x1080 if it were to come to that (albeit not quite as well as a native 1920x1080 one would).

I can't get over how silly imgur is. I originally tried uploading something in PNG a few MB in size, and it shrunk it. That's understandable, and I know it happens and usually let it, but it butchered quality too much, so I had to try again.

So I uploaded it in JPG at the size of a few hundred KB, which already has suffered quality loss, but figured it was the best I could get, and it butchers it even more than it ended up the first time.

Okay, I give up on 1920x1200 and go with 960x600, and upload a ~300KB JPG (which was smaller than the end results of it's own previous conversions so I was sure it'd be fine), yet it butchers it to something 100KB in size.

So I upload a larger 960x600 PNG hoping the butchering would be less, and it converts it to an even LARGER (nearly 700KB) PNG than what I uploaded...

Nice consistency. Much as I don't want to, I'm about to start using Photobucket again.

I've been using Photobucket for years, and never had many problems with it, but imgur was simpler (and there've been changes to Photobucket in recent years I'm not too happy with), so I tried and have been using it.

So far, it's fine, but this one thing is a small annoyance. Photobucket, so far as I last knew, has a 1MB limit per image for free accounts, and that's it. So long as it's under 1MB, it never messed with my uploads. However, imgur insists on resizing anything/everything it seems, and as I said, even enlarging it (haha, what!?) sometimes.

I understand the bandwidth concerns, but a little more control/consistency like Photobucket has would be nice.

Yes, it's a bit bare. We recently moved in, plus I like to keep it tidy anyway. The lack of speakers is another story though. The holes in the desk are because there used to be another shelf layer there long ago. I removed/got rid of it years ago when I needed the room for my CRT, but it's better without it anyway. I keep telling myself I need a new desk but it's working fantastically.

My nephew fell in love with Unreal Tournament III and "the game with the sharks" (Crysis).

You're not going to see AG coating in a picture taken from some distance by a non-professional photo taker.

Of course, some sort of reflective coating is necessary or you have too much reflection. A middle ground is ideal, and the AG coating on this monitor is a bit too harsh for me.

The UltraSharp U2412m is said to have less aggressive coating, and since it's still 1920 x 1200 with better response, better contrast, better Blacks, and better input delay, one may be in my future. The 6-bit vs 8-bit itself is not all there is to it, and it's at least still IPS, so the things that often get blamed on 6-bit displays but are truly a result of the TN technology don't apply. For now though, it's not being a deal breaker by itself. It's just a slight annoyance because I know I'm living in ignorance a bit by having it, even if it doesn't totally kill it.

It's attempting to show AG coating's effect by enlarging/exaggerating it. You can get an idea of how it "dulls" or "dirties" the color, but you're not going to see it from afar from a picture.

Think of looking through perfectly flat glass versus looking through rougher glass. The flat glass gives a clearer view, but is more prone to reflection. The latter is more dull, but less prone to reflection.

Again, the camera and/or my taking of the picture alter the way it looks from reality (a look at the picture and a look at my literal screen capture shows the photo is way off anyway), and AG coating can't be seen from that distance in a photo anyway. AG coating's effect (albeit exaggerated) can be seen with the GIF image I posted.

Anyway, the whole matter of AG coating is getting a bit to the side here.

It's not odd at all. If you are thinking AG will make a monitor much more dimmer/under-saturated to the point to where it'll be greatly noticeable in any generic picture taken of it, that's not how it is.

If you are going off of what I may have described as dull at one point, I meant less clear, and more grainy/dirty. It does make it duller, but that won't translate to a big drop in "vibrancy" in a picture taken of the monitor, especially one that isn't reflective of exactly how our eyes would see it.

It's said that our eyes are the best lens ever, and no camera is as good as them, especially the one I used (a point and shoot) with me (who can basically just point and shoot) taking it. That photo is off. Compare the colors/over-saturation of the monitor's picture in the photo of it to that of my literal screen capture. My desk area also isn't as "dark" as the photo makes it. The camera probably dropped the amount of light it took in since I was aiming towards two light sources.

Even if I took a "perfect" picture though, it wouldn't reflect the AG coating. I'm just saying that this adds another layer of error preventing that conclusion from being drawn.

In a manner of speaking yes, it is hinted by the show that her power is ranked at least top 4 but it doesn't seem like she's quite 2nd seat material, Ken seems to be quite protective of her as well, if you look closely many 2nd seat assignments are usually passed down to Madarame and Ken-chan always keeps her with him, unless its something trivial.

@Kasabian: small note to you regarding the post with the desktop screen, since i can't help it, this forum houses quite a few techies and even some knowledgeable/talented deviants so we know how far desktop modding can reach mostly, just sayin' :P, but in any case it looks nice ^^.

Well imho even putting in an apple logo is crossing the line between design preference and mutilation. Spyhop used to fly off the handle when someone used a dock...I'm not quite that bad. But putting an apple logo on Windows is just going too far. Ok, it doesn't have to the typical Windows Start button either...but that apple is more of a statement than a design choice. It might as well be a hackintosh.

Like i said your blowing things way out of proportions OS's aren't some religion to blow a fuse over, if he likes the OSX look and the windows functionality there's nothing wrong with that, you could twist it really easily and have the same said about emulation, for example about pSX emulator, who tries to emulate a real PS1 as good as possible even the feel, but you don't see PS1 fans going on a rage about it, and you shouldn't.

SCHUMI_4EVER, I know hackintosh, but I never try it. If you look at the screenshot carefully, you can see that shadow is a bit weird and hackintosh will not look like that.
It's just windows under customization.
Plus, if modding windows 7 by making it similar to mac is something wrong, then why the deviantart community doesn't banning all the ss that look like that?
If you ask me, there are maybe millions of ss like that in deviantart.

The point is you put an apple logo on Windows. That's like putting an Opel Badge on a Ferrari...or like putting a Sonim bade on a Samsung Galaxy S2.
I can understand that you may like the look of a mac....but to actually even display apple logos is going too far. The design would be no less impressive if the apple logo was omitted.

You just prefer to keep on taking things yet again out of proportions not only that but your examples are flaud, first of all its not like putting an Opel Badge on a Ferarri, its like putting Ferarri chassie (which also includes the badge, but unlike the car in this case the said badge has a more important role, like being the button for the drop down menu) on a Lamborghini mechanical base, that's exactly what it is. And personally if it went through this much changes keeping the default start orb would look in fact worse, not only cause it wouldn't fit that good color wise but because it would be to large for the toolbar frame, then using the apple one.

Extra vertical space is valuable to me in using digital audio software so I can see clearly what tracks are playing, the limits they are hitting, the fx and pans and when media items begin.

I've always hated square monitors but honestly find that attitude changing.
Perhaps I can get a 1080p and flip it vertically when I have more funds.

I merely had a blonde moment where I forgot that the graphics chip determines the res of the monitor you can output to, not that the built in monitor in the case of a netbook for instance simply mirrors itself on the other screen (in which case 1024 would have been bigger than 768 for the vertical res and I was confused).

Why are you reinstalling Windows 7 like every month? These aren't the Windows XP days anymore (even then that'd be a lot).

I know, I know, truly the OS only has so little to do with it, but I've still felt the need to format Windows XP once every while (from a few months to a year or two), but my two year old Windows 7 install felt no less fresh than my latest did.

I actually almost dislike doing it. I'm not sure how it's a wonderful good.

Well yeah this year i did tried out linux but you can't blame me for that, i was curious about it :P. Due to the hardrive issue i was forced to install it a lot maybe that's why the confusion, first cause i thought it was the windows's fault it was going at snail pace second time was installing XP while i got a 120 GB HDD and i waited mine to comeback from warranty third when it got back and i could go back to 7, which was a so and so hurry up installation, i thought i'd rather do a more solid one by the holidays but it didn't happen. But still making abstraction of the linux attempts and the HDD fiasco i usually was satisfied by it for quite some time and probably that's how i'll be now as well :P.

PS: don't worry i didn't thought you exagerated since i admit that recent events made it look chaotic :lol:.

Here's how my Windows XP Home (SP3) install on my secondary PC is set up. It's more of the primary and general use type operating system, I guess, and the other install is Windows 2000 Professional (SP4) just for older games and with services shut off, minimal programs installed, etc. The third hard drive is storage and files.

I know Windows 2000 and XP are similar enough at their core in many ways, which may make separating them seem a bit redundant, but I want to! (at least one game refuses to consistently work on Windows XP post SP1, and I like the older look of Windows 2000 for the purpose that install serves, plus it's a bit lighter on RAM use.)

I wanted a more "modern Windows-esque" look and feel without it saying "I'm Windows 7" because I'm not really trying to dress it to be that; just make it more modern looking, cleaner, and similar. I did install the Windows 7 sounds though (the startup one doesn't work for some reason...).

I customized the folder explorer layout to look more minimalistic and clean like Windows 7 (I did this with the Windows 2000 install too), and I'm rather satisfied. I personally never used those extra icons/buttons up there anyway.

In the academia level (I think 400 years in the future) the background looks exactly the same as that first pic.

Academia or whatever apparently looks like New York then (if so, shame it's come to that versus the better fantasy settings of the past), because that's what that city looks like from at least one of the buildings in the picture.

Offhand, that's so much more Mirror's Edge there; the character (and their outfit and activity), the angle, and for the most part, the setting (it might be Grey rather than White and clean, but even with the city being in the background and the fence giving the illusion of being trapped and all); the overall feel is so Mirror's Edge.

Yeah, I do miss the older fantasy settings. Ever since FF7, it's been all high tech cities (of course, excluding FF9)

Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII were more sci-fi fantasy in setting, which is fine. Final Fantasy X wasn't like that either, and yet Final Fantasy IX has "high tech" fantasy cities.

I do that too sometimes (and I imagine many have). It's really more a result of not showing it when you first started using it to begin with, either due to laziness or just lack of not caring/bothering, but then wanting to before you change it.

That's usually how it happens. Whenever I go looking for something, I don't end up with much as often as when I just come across it.

Why was it there to begin with? That looks like the standard Photoshop grass brush, and it seems out of place in a library or whatever, so I figured it wasn't normally part of it.
