No bother at all Miretank. As for the amount of memory finderbar takes, for me it used around 7,000K. If you don't mind that then you should be ok I have 512 MB so it didn't affect my comp at all. I don't want to post the theme publicly since the original authors was told to remove the theme from their site so just PM your email address and I will send you the theme along with any other thing you need. Both AveDesk and System icons are a mixture of icons from the guys at Enhanced Labs (http://http://www.enhancedlabs.com/main/downloads.html), they have the icons available in png and ico so you can mix and choose the ones you like.

Thanks. The theme is VistaXP v3 by Kol. I decided to try out a theme after purchasing WindowBlinds 4.6 and I found out I could try out the 5.0 beta version. The theme will work with 4.6 but I'm not sure if the themes with alpha blending transparency will work on it. Kol wasn't sure when a Visual Style version would be available when I read it on Neowin (source (http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=347078&st=499)) so for right now v2 is the latest visual style version.

Transformation packs can do that, but that dial-up in my desktop was made by me :). Transf. packs just changes your shell icons and shell bitmaps. But I only used transf. packs to get the shells already made with their respectives good-looking icons. After that, I mixed the transformated shell with some more icons. Well, in this case it was harder cause I've used two transf. packs: one is Vista Inspirat 1.1 and the other is Mac OS X 2.02, and then mixed the all the most important shells icons of each one (and adding some LHA icons you told us ;)) using ResHacker.
And this time I have modified some important bitmaps in the shells. Like the one you see in the dial-up screen. I remade important bitmaps like the one in dial-ip screen, the connection wizrd one, the logon/logoff/turnoff one, the "windows twilight" band in classic start menu, and a few more. It was very cool ^^
If you want, I can send to you the bitmap I have modified. :)

The Explorer Toolbar? Amazing, isn't it? Haha, it took me a while to find it. It is Styler Toolbar, a japanese program that not only is a skinable toolbar for Explorer and IE, but also is a WinXP tweaker and theme manager (believe me, it makes things you can't believe!)

oO ? expired? did you use the evaluation version? the version I use (and the one I've linked) is the evaluation version, and the toolbar skin I use comes along the package. It is the Aero skin.

Haha, I'll be :P Seriously, its not that hard, but no way that simple. The most difficult part is when you will mount the shell. What I did to make the shell is here:

Resuming: Basically, I got an icon from a shell... then other icon from other shell.. (using my gold, the ResHacker :D).. then I've mounted the a new shell.
But its not only 1 Shell. Actually, for a complete transformation, you'll need to hack 40 dll shells. Among them, you'll find cmdial32.dll, rasdlg.dll, shell32.dll, msgina.dll, deskmon.dll .... a lot more. Your most powerful tool for hacking all these shells is your Patience. :)
For the bitmaps, I've extracted them from the shells (also using reshacker) and made new ones in Photoshop. Then I made new shells replacing the old bitmaps with my ones.

Go here: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/1178505/ and download that Logon Screen. Now, make this: open the downloaded logonui.exe with Reshacker. In the "Bitmap" tree, open the "+100" and replace it with any 1024x768 bitmap picture. Sure, now save it as Logonui.exe in any folder.
This part you must know... reboot Windows in Safe Mode, go to system32 folder and rename (and backup) your original logonui to logonui.bak. Now put your new logon screen in the system32 folder. Voila. Reboot again to be happy ^^

This was a nice discovery of zman. It is Window Blinds 5.0 Final. And the skin I'm using is VistaXP. Yeah, the transparency effect is work of Window Blinds. But the transparency only works in 5.0 version, in others it is heavily buggy.
BTW, in some pics I was using Royale Vista Visual style, which is also a great theme. Both can be find in DeviantArt (sorry, I've forgot the links =\)

LOL, np at all dude =) Well, the turn off screen... transparency effect by WB 5.0 Final. The picture there was one I've made.
If you're really very very desperate to know how did I make that :P:D I can say... but be aware. cause this was the main reason of my first reformat! :D
AND FOR EVERYONE: JUST MAKE THIS IF YOUR OS IS WIN XP SP2, I don't know if it'll work in SP1.
*EDIT: AND IF YOU'RE NOT USING ANY TRANSF. PACK ALREADY. I extremely recommend you to do this with your original msgina.dll .

-Open msgina.dll with ResHacker (system32/msgina.dll)
-You'll just change 3 bitmaps of it. They are, respectively: "101" , "103" and "107". Note that "101" and "107" are the same, but they have DIFFERENT HEIGHT. The "101" one is 413x72, and the "107" is 413x88.
-Then change the icons "21", "22", "109" and "115" to make your turn off dialog more cool XD
-Thats it. Save it, and make the same thing you've did with the logonui.

Nope, Styler has its own Toolbar "skins". You can find Styler Toolbar skins everywhere, the hard is to find the prog. :) And don't worry, you can close the Styler and use your normal toolbar too.

*EDIT2: Ah, for the ones interested in the logon screen, I have uploaded my picture. It is in jpeg, so you'll need to convert it to bmp (in order to change it using reshacker). Don't forget to download that logonui from DeviantArt first.

Have you tried Astonshell?
I've used it only one time, it seems crappy at first view (specially when you don't "mod" it - i mean, get cool skins and make it with your style) but I've seen many, but many cool desktops using it.

For Modotate, yes, it is terrible. Very buggy and crappy.

Yes it is, but is a lot faster than DesktopX, and less heavy than DesktopX. It just substitutes the Explorer.exe, what saves a lot of memory (DesktopX runs with explorer.exe, doesn't it?), so I think its a good try.
However, Astonshell is shareware. Expires in 30 days. This sucks.

Just a note: My WBlinds 5 went crazy. It does not load themes anymore, and gets stucked in explorer, the taskbar gets black and not even the Task manager can be used...

A very useful desklet of AveDesk 1.3, the Translator. Comes in the 1.3 package. It is not offline unfortunately. Yeah, it is very cool and useful I say, I have used so much in a French-speakers forum, and everyone understood I what I said (or what the translator traslated :p). I recommend it.

Thats a hard decision. I have tested both - shell mod and programs to change icons. The best you can do is to use both at same time. I say this because Shell Modding is hard and dangerous sometimes, but it hasn't Icon Cache problems and you can change more than icons. Afaik, icon progs can just modify file and folder icons, and I'm sure it'll be loaded in memory (not the Program itself, but the icon cache). Shell Mod is not so safe cause you can't modify some files, and some icon programs can modify the icons in these dangerous files.
If I was you, I'd mod the following shells only (and carefully!): Shell32, Mshtml, Url, Urlmon, cmdial32, rasdlg and Msgina. Then you use a program like iPhile (good prog) to change the other icons.

Last thing, if someone wants my hacked icons, just PM ok? =)

'bout aero explorer: Yes, it is. I'm looking foward to mod it, making it faster and more useful (you know, I just posted that pic with it only to make some charm on my mod :p I'm not currently using it, due its speed and lack of options).
There's an other "aero explorer", a bit faster but without significant options. Its called Vista Explorer iirc, and must be somewhere in DeviantArt... the problem is that I've lost the download of it, and I haven't found it again yet.

for the thumbs: i'm thinking about this possibility too zman. I'm working to put the icons also in the 'move to bin' prompt, but this one is getting on nervers - isn't working right. but, for the thumbs, I dunno if it is possible. I'll try later =).

And this one is really making me happy. Truly happy. :) Cause it is very nice eye candy, and it is very useful too - the hardest part of a deskmod imo is too make desktop wonderful BUT useful (i see a lot of people using things that never help, only loads memory.. its beauty that amount of progs running to make your desktop beautier but, how can you use a good desktop if all those programs have loaded up your ram?), dynamic and,.. special. :)

SnowIsh XP Shell Mod pack, not thaaat way finsihed, but I'm already playing with it. Have hacked 25 shells so far, some Control Panel files and some applications. Still I haven't done the bootscreen and logon screen, but soon I'll made it. :)

Thanks to zman982 for the tips he gave me about Window Blinds, for Visual Tooltip and for trying to help me with some shell scripts (though that thing didn't worked well unfortunately heh =/). And thanks for every one that likes the mods I do. :) this makes me more motivated to do even better desktop mods.

Just a note: in some screens I use different wallpaper and wb skins :)

Heh, the selected/playing song looks completely solid blue. It should be solid blue with a slightly lighter blue text behind it.

I'm trying to make my wallpaper, WinAmp skin, and WinXP theme/style/whatever to match somehow when I change them every week. This nearly does it, the colors flow and the visualization looks kinda like the blue fire, but I'm still at a loss when it comes to a new theme.

Hey folks back again with the same old Vista stuff. But this time around a couple of more things added to further emulate Vista on XP.

Theme: Aero Style by Windows X for WB5. Part of his Vista Transformation Pack (http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/Vista-Transformation-Pack.shtml) (though i wouldn't advise using it other than for the themes and walls)

Clock: LClock - can get it here (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/1092761816/1).

Things in the attached pics starting from left to right.

Pic 1: The obvious thing in this and most of the shot is the sidebar on the desktop. This is the actual sidebar currently used in Vista but it's been hacked and back ported to XP. Can't provide any info on how to obtain the sidebar but digging enough through Google will get you what you'll need.

Pic 2: Just shows the items in the start menu.

Pic 3: Shows the feature similar in Vista where you can view a thumbnail of the window when you place your mouse over the tab in the taskbar. The program that does this for XP is called Visual ToolTip and you can find it here (http://chsalmon.club.fr/index.html) along with english or another language packs needed for the translation of the options in the program.

Pic 4-6: Emulates the Vista Program/Window switcher. The latest version of TopDesk provides this feature. You can get it here (http://www.otakusoftware.com/topdesk).

Pic 7: The System info window there is emulating the Vista's version. Right now when you click on the option on the left pane in opens that tab in xp's system settings. This System window is part of the updated version of joejoe's vista customization pack which will be at version 3. Right now I'm testing the betas and hopefully it will be done and available to the public in the next couple of weeks.

You can get more info on the pack along with new sounds for xp at joejoe's website (http://www.joejoe.biz). They're the un/inoffical vista sounds.

I'm enjoying them alot plus it a fresh sound from the same old xp sounds though i know i'll get tired of these sounds one day as well but for now it's nice.

Got tired of the whole windows thing and wanted something a little sparse. Here's my desktop using bblean. My custom menu has all the things I need, so there's no need for a start menu, quick launch bar, destop icons, etc. Plus there are 4 desktop workspaces built into the shell replacement.

yes, it is. the PC version is the same as the Gamecube remake, with some graphical improvements and additions over the Dreamcast game; I have both the DC original and the PC version....it's my favourite Sonic game :)

Using the very same old icons from my SnowIsh Shell Package (though I have changed some shell scripts and complication like those), but now using a msstyle instead of Window Blinds skin. Plain and simple.
