Nvidia's pace

Hey, is anyone else disturbed by the rate at which they are cranking out geforces. I mean, i'm still waiting for DDR enhanced games, and remakes of games just for the Geforce 3 are already underway. What's the dealio?

yeah what is up with this.... i'm not gonana pay some 699$ for a geforce3.... nor am i gonna pay 899$ for a geforce3 GTS or whatever they're gonna call it... The speed is nice, the price isn't...

The voodoo5 6000 never really came out (it's the one with 4 vsa-100 chips) It was purchased by nVidia b4 it was really marketed... hmm.. do i sense monopoly since ati sucks to me... and so do all the other companies...

technically the geforce 3 is supposed to be 2x more powerful than it and the geforce2 ultra about 1.5x so go figure...

why go and buy a GeForce3 when the prices on GeForce2 will be dropping now since the release of GeForce3 ? I would place my money on a GeForce2 ...

good news: The GeForce3 from ELSA costs 999 DM "only" (~ 470 $) :D

I don't know where you guys get your prices....SRP for the GF3 in the US is $400

Games are already 'DDR enhanced' because it just provides more bandwith so you can play in higher resolutions.

One last thing...The pixel shader owns all of you. If Tim Sweeney and John Carmack say it's good, I believe them.

ya nvidia is nuts i was gonna buy a geforce 2 ultra but now since the gf3 is so close i'm gonna wait... Probably by the time gf3 comes out gf4 or something is already gonna be announced... nice marketing startegy!

but the voodoo5 looks very good > it's not the fastest card in town (though not slow either) but it looks fabulous, much nicer than a geforce....IMO..

The GF3 pixel shaders are great... especially if you want to code a N64 emu video plugin for doing some of the N64 combine modes :)

yes, and the successor to the geforce3 will probably be 6x powerful.....I have a geforce 2mx, that's not the most powerful card out there, but it does what I want.....I'll upgrade again when things are getting to slow for me, and not because there is a faster card.....besides, look at the price and the time you bought it.....the voodoo5 is older than a geforce 3, and much cheaper....by the time the geforce 3 gets a reasonable price, well, that could still take some time.
If you want the fastest you've got to upgrade every week.

I'm with you Samor. That is why I've hung on to my GEForce 2 GTS card. It does everything I want, is nice and fast, and looks great too. Forget Voodoo 5, it is dead, gone, history. Nvidia stopped supporting Voodoo 5 cards as of 02/28/01 and unless a third party manufacturer keeps making drivers for them, which I doubt Nvidia would allow, you'll be seeing no more new drivers. The GEForce 2 GTS both in 64 and 32 meg configs has dropped quite a bit in price. So if you are looking for a REALLY good card to get:D , I would reccommend the GEForce 2 GTS. Plus, I know others have said differently, the GEForce 2 GTS beats the Radeon in every way. I just read this in a tech magazine that my friend (who is a programmer) gets.

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that MDK2 is T&L enhanced because I have the game and there is an option in the game to turn it on/off. I have a TNT2 though so it slows the game way down when T&L is on. MDK2 has been out for at least 6 months.

yeah, Giants is T & L enhanced too, but i'm still ticked that they are already specializing for geforce 3 cards now, like that remake of Giants being done at the moment.

if you own a voodoo card and still want updated drivers with new features (Edge Anti-Aliasing, Gaurdband clipping etc.) go to Iceman's Voodoo Drivers page (http://www.3dfxvoodoo.cjb.net/) for some great 3rd party drivers.
