View Full Version : How can I play imported games in my ps2?

Hi.
I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but I needed any way to play imported games (mainly japanese games!) in my PS2, which turns out being one of those smaller ps2.

Can you help me?

Plus, be aware of this:

- I live in Portugal, and some things are quite hard to get around here. So, if I have to get it from an online store, they MUST send it to portugal and accept COD ("cash on delivery" or paypal payment).

- I don't want to open my ps2;

- It must be a 100% effective way. I say this because I used to have a device to play import/copied games in my ps1, and it didn't worked in multi-disk games, plus it stopped running the game for a long time, sometimes.

Any ideas?

Get a swap disc... but it's not 100% effective... with some games you will have to make iso of your import... patch it, and than burn and play from the backup

othere way is to get a modchip... which is installed on your PS2s motherboard... this method is 100% effective, but you'll have to open your console...

there ain't other possibilities...

isn't there any 100% acurate way that doesn't require opening my console?

Well you can actually wait for years untill ps2 emulation is good.

one other option is to import a modded ps2 then.

Get a swap disk thing as said before, I was a little if'y before but it works fine, I have had to patch anything yet...but make sure you get good dvd-rs if you do have to patch, because I friend burned something for me and it reads bad at times...

It's common case... that when you have to patch your game and run it from its copy you'll have to get high quality disc, and also burn it at minimum speed...

AFAIK importing modded ps2 ain't too legal dukenukem... and importing console for just one game ain't worth I guess...

i might have been out of the loop for a while but i didnt think that xenosaga worked with swap discs since it was dvd9..

But are you sure the swap disk is good enough? I won't get (for example, this happened to me in FF8 for PS1) a long black screen each time the game is loading between each scenario?

I just asked my friend, he said xenosaga works...he said he didn't have to do antyhing special with it, but as said before, google is your friend....

are you sure your friend has an original import of the game? i am pretty sure that there was a dvd5 rip floating around due to the limitations of the media at the time..
most of my google hits say that swap magic doesnt work with xs1/xs2

and as you know illegal material is prohibited to discuss in here...

bit of advice... just get a chip... you won't have any problems with bit $H!tty swapping method... it's all in this topic... that I can tell you, talking about mod chips ain't allowed here also

But the problem is that I don't wanna open my ps2 ! Apart from violating the Warranty, I am not sure if I am good enough to perform such operation, and... I also have a smaller ps2, you know, those who are the size a book...

Was that really bad? I didn't promote it, I just said that he did do that. I would never try to help that type of thing...Just a question, I dont' want to get in trouble...just clearing up what I said before with the question asked...

As we have written above... there ain't othere things than some swap $h1t or mod chip... nothing's perfect on this world...

Swap Discs work fine for xenosaga 2 since it is two dvd5's. For dvd9 imports you will need to use a thing called cdloader or cogswap (google them). The procedure goes as follows

Swap Discs -> Cdloader/Cog -> DVD9 Original(legit, retail) -> Swap Backup etc. You can find more indepth tutorials out there.

However, for xs1, you are screwed with swap methods since it is dvd9 and has the highest TOC known.

8.05GB USA Xenosaga
8.02GB PAL Champions of Norrath
7.94GB JAP GRAN TURISMO Concept(Traditional Chinese Version) SCPS55903
7.94GB JAP Xenosaga
7.74GB USA Champions of Norrath (SLUS: 20565)
7.55GB USA The Guy Game (Mature Rating)
7.20GB JAP Sakura Wars Atsuki Chishiyo Ni
6.47GB USA Madden 2005 Collectors Edition
6.13GB PAL Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance
5.99GB USA MGS2: Substance

So to play a dvd9 backup you need to refresh the toc with a disc that has a larger toc than your backup (step2 after loading cdloader/cog). Since Xenosaga is 8.05 gb, you will need to use a modchip. Thus this topic comes to a halt because there will be no discussion of modchips.

Feel free to respond without the talk of modchips.

Hum... I am not sure if I understood what you said, but I guess it's like this...

To play xenosaga with a swapdisk-like-thing I would need a cd which has more taken space than it, right? And there's isn't any, is that it?

If I got this correct, now I am wondering about something... what's the theory behind those methods? Any idea? I mean, I think it's weird, that you always need a larger disk...

yeah, you understood right, the thing is that it would work with swap method, if the swap dvd disc was DVD9, and afaik swap dvd disc is dvd5...

doh - of course I meant xenosaga... how would I play that on a PAL ps2 without modding it?

Without the hacked version, you can't.
As pouinted out: the only ways to play imports are mod chips and swap discs. Swap discs need a larger TOC than the original, and Xenosaga has the highest TOC of any game on the PS2
