The squishing of the characters in your sig is too noticable, as well as the overlapping to the forum's background color. I heard Gimp 2.3 was suppose to use the SIOX algorithm, and with my experiences, it will cut out the background like butter ;)

how so, jpeg compression is far better than gif or png, and it usually looks most like the original bitmap, the resizing if anything is what screws it up since 25 kb is more than enough for a 500x130 sig that isnt animated

i view the opposite as that, the file size is easy to keep low if you know how without much loss in quality while the dimensions... who exactly uses 800x600 nowadays anyways? One of my arguments was whats the difference between a sig 500x250, and a sig 500x130 with 8 lines of text in it

And about the sig limitations: Even though I have a nice connection (soon to be 3000/512) I would prefer to have the limitations as they are now. There is nothing as annoying as having signatures which are larger than posts. And to answer you question Strider: I am still at 800x600, so hush :p

And I think there are lots of other members here, or just guests, who are using the same resolution as I do. Even though a lot of you use 1024 of higher.
So I'm with Reich on this one.

I'm still using the monitor that came with our system back in '98. It's a 15" monitor, and since it's still working properly I don't have the need for upgrading. I have to admit that sometimes it would be nicer to have a bigger screen allowing higher resolutions, but I don't feel like spending money on a new monitor while this one is still working correctly. There are so many other things to spend my money on that I don't want to miss out on :)

Btw, I can go up to 1024, but the problem is that it's restricted to 60Hz :(

well, i prefer the quality of a CRT screen. when i scroll and read text (which i often do) blurring is noticeable. but in games, 12ms is actually pretty damn good--i havent noticed any blurring or anything bad yet. and for reading (non moving) text, an LCD is MUCH easier on my eyes because, simply, no refresh rate :)

Hmm, I don't think the level of compression I have used on my sig is 'that' bad, infact it looks fairly close to the original BMP version...either that or my eyesight is going. Anyhow never seen the sig 'large' so I did a new render tonight, it was never designed with this res in mind, but I think it works well..perhaps at this size needs more detail like reflections in the blood and alittle DOF.

its not a matter of filesize for me really just dimensions. you can make avatars and sigs that use twice as many pixels and retain the same filesize, have the same server load, dont break up the layout, and dont create any reason for 56kers to go crying... im too tired nowadays to really start whining about this again though, i go to other forums as well and i barely come here anymore anyways

i think the dimension limits should be whatever doesnt change the layout of the site, in ngemu's case the area in which the avatar is in right now has enough room to hold two avatars side by side. I'd probably use whatever fit right for the situation even given limits like 150x150 i'd probably use 125x80... arguing is so annoying though

No no, not an .avi file, avi-avitar... I made mine in photoshop and i cant seem to get the filesize below 75kb at 85x85 pixels.... Is there something im missing here? Also, you all have reallly nice looking sigs it seems...how do you get them to look so good on the boards - namely how do you match the color of the outline of some guy so perfectly with that of the background of the message board?

I see that there are 2 frames inside it, why don't you just excract them end edit it even in paint (manualy remove those white dots...) than gather it again in a gif animatoing program and save? :) this shouls work I think

as some of you may know, i frequent honda-tech.com all the time to post up pictures of my car, and to look at others. i remember one thread, a guy had a sweet photoshoot of his car behind a building, and he was like "hey check this out it was so gross i had to take a picture of it". if i had the picture of it next to his car, i'd post it, but i dont...ah well it was a very clean car next to a dirty condom/smashed cigarette. odd juxtaposition, gave the picture interesting composition (you're supposed to be looking at the car but...hey what the crap is that?). i put it up because i figured i'd make people be like "wtf?" and also next to a picture of a girl saying she loves me, it's kind of funny. kind of.

anyway, the avatar breaks no rule. however, if it offends any member and a request is made, i will generously take it down (even though i dont have to).

Also as a sidenote to Guyver, if you want to make the transperancy look proper, make the background the colour of where the avatar goes rather than by making it transperant. Like in my sig, and many others, the blue that makes it look like bits are sticking out is actually part of the image and not a transperant layer.

in other words, the characters have no inherent relation to their language. im using roman characters, which are used in english, spanish, french, etc. what about kanji? if you see (most) kanji you cant specially say japanese or chinese. it could be either. and Russian isnt the only language that uses cyrillic characters either ;)
