I think it's basically supposed to be used in the same way as the Xbox hard drive, such as file caching to speed up games, download updates, save progress in games, etc. It isn't widely used yet and I have a feeling it probably never will be (should have been released earlier in the PS2's life cycle IMO).

Now it has a new feature thanks to HD Loader. You can rip your games on your PS2 HDD or a storebought one (They reccomend Maxtor - 40-120gb) and it will load games much faster. A neat little thing if you have the money. ;)

It can also be used as an oversized memory card

Sony is suing HD loader (and similar products) soon you won’t be able to get it. (Sony is winning the case at the moment. And has the money to stop any more development)

I don't have a PS2 hard drive... :(

But then again, in Reality I don’t need one.

Hm I don't think so, But i'm not saing you can't. The only thing is PC hard drives are cheaper anyways, and the PS2 file system is different from a Windows one.

well i think its possible to put a ps2 hardrive into a pc, but why would you want to do that? if you have saved data on the harddrive the pc most likley wouldnt be able to read it because the ps2 writes to the harddrive in raw data and a pc would format it

You could use it with PCSX2 ;)
