I was wondering if a normal hdd (for computers) will fit in the ps2. You can't buy only the hdd for ps2 atm. But you'll have to buy the FFXI package (Game+hdd). I don't need the game :p

AFAIK, any HDD with 40 or more Gb will work, but Original games and programs (like ps2linux) will check if it's the Correct HDD, so they won't want to use it unless you hack them, and that wouldn't be legal, and wou will need a modded ps2 to use them (and, also, it's not legal).

Plus, that's kinda a lot of work. Just go buy the PS2 HDD... :)

No; the HDD is $99. FFXI comes with it "for free," so you're not paying for the game, just the HDD. You could probably find it used on Ebay, but it's only $99, you're not going to save much money trying to ditch the game. Go sell the game or something if you don't want it to Gamestop, you'll probably get more money in return if you haven't used the free trial.

Any ATA hard Drive will work but you will need the ps2 hard drive driver. Which is damn near impossible to find, I recommend what everyone else has said go get the $99 combo.

Actually you are all wrong. :p Well you do ned 40gb or more and the PS2 won't recognize over 20 gb. ;) Thee is a program recently released called HDD Loader and you can "Back-up" your games on their and run them off your HDD (PS2 one or not) :D
Controversial so get it while you can.
