:D i know hex!! i learned it a while back, want a quick lesson? maybe u'll understand it:
ok, first off..theres letters A - F
A = 10
B = 11
C = 12
D = 13
E = 14
F = 15
Then, u gotta know that..if its hex, you multiply..if ur converting to hex..u divide.
So, if you have the numbers 2A this means (2 x 16) + (A x 1) but A is 10 so, (2 x 16) + (10 x 1)
2 is at the places of 16 to the one, while A is at the place of 16 to the 0, so therefore anything to 0 equals ONE (1).
get it? so if its 4F its (4 x 16) + (F x 1) / (4 x 16) + (15 x 1) = 64 + 15 = 79 (Decimal Numba)
so yea..so..if u wanted to learn Hex thats basically it..atleast for the converting to decimal part..i know its a lil too quick of a lesson, but if u want..i can make a much more in depth lesson..its just hard using comps lol.

Does anyone have the Japanese program? I could try to find someone to make it NTSC compatible..
the japanese version is NTSC compatible it just doesn't work with the american or european version of FFX-2
and here's the link for FFX-2 Tool (http://www.project-fao.org/file/FFX2_tool_1.09.zip)
JKozzy
July 6th, 2004, 02:09
Any reason it won't work? Just because the differences between the American and Japanese disc's sizes? Or is it some computer compatibility issue? I'm not thinking it's the latter though... hope someone makes one for America soon :)
Are there any good websites that have the movies already ripped out there?
GiGaHeRz
July 6th, 2004, 14:44
It won't work because the program has the exact positions and sizes of the fmv's in the jap version, and they are in different in the other versions (I think).
BTW, Jap. cosoles use NTSC too. AFAIK, only us, Europeans, have PAL.

Yeah, I mixed up the fact that NTSC can have different regions, my b :p

Just out of curiosity... how did FFX2.Net rip them... I mean, their clips are English, and if it were recorded from the game onto their computer(s), then it would have the black frame around thier FMVs...

I'm a member of other forums and someone sent this to me and I thought that I would share it with you. It doesn't work with Kingdom Hearts yet, but does work with FFX-2 and might work with FFX. I did this myself and it can take up to a couple hours. If you have any questions feel free to contact me any way you want. Hope you enjoy.
How to rip PS2 FMV/PSS files.
PS2 game FMVs are encoded on the disc as PSS files. Some programs can easily find them but for games like Final Fantasy X and X-2, they are hidden. This guide should help you rip footage that is hidden.
Programs you need:
DVD Decrypter (http://www.dvddecrypter.com/)
PSS Plex (http://www.zophar.net/utilities/download/pssplex110setupfull.exe)
The file splitter (http://www.dekabyte.com/filesplitter/)
Nova software extractor (http://www.volny.cz/nova-software/)
MF Audio (Removed the MF Audio link)
DVD2AVI (http://www.divx-digest.com/software/dvd2avi.html)
Virtualdub (Divx/Xvid encoding) (http://www.virtualdub.org/)
Tmpegenc (MPEG encoding) (http://www.pegasys-inc.com/)
Step 1: Ripping the PS2 Disc
Put in your PS2 disc into your DVD-ROM/DVD Burner then run DVD Decrypter. Go to "Mode", then "ISO" and choose "Read". Then rip it to your hard drive by choosing "file" > "Decrypt". You should now have a large PS2 game ISO on your hard drive.
Step 2: Splitting the ISO
Open up The File Splitter and under "File to split", choose your PS2 game ISO. Select the folder on your hard drive you want the split files to be for "Folder for pieces". Then under "Size of Pieces", choose "Custom size". Make the custom size 1 GB and then choose "split" to split up the ISO.
Step 3: Extracting the PSS files
Now start up Nova software extractor and under "Files to scan", pres the "Select" button next to it and choose the split ISO files (They should end in a number). Under "Save extracted files to", press the "Select" button next to it to select the directory you want to store the extracted files in. Then under "Formats", choose "MPG". Press "Start" to begin scanning the split ISOs. The scanning process may take a while but it will show you the movies that you can extract from the game. Once the scanning process is done, select each of the mpg files, click on "properties" and change the mpg extension to pss. When you are finished, press "extract" to extract the pss files to your hard drive.
Step 4: Coverting the PSS files to MPEG2
Open up PSS Plex, choose "Demultiplex", then under "Select PSS source file", open up any of your newly made PSS files. Choose the directories you want the save the MPEG2 stream under and then click "start" to save it. Ignore the wav file it creates here because it will be distorted. Your MPEG2 stream should be saved as an m2v file.
Optional step: Getting the sound
Now that you have the footage, you can also get the sound if you want to watch the movie file on your computer. However, if you just want the movie file, then skip over to Step 5.
Start up MFAudio and click "open" and choose the pss file you want to extract the sound from. You can press "play" to see if it's the one you want. Click "save as" to set the directory you want the wav file saved to then click "process to save the wav.
Step 5: Converting the MPEG2 stream to avi
Open up DVD2AVI and select the m2v file then choose "save avi" and choose the codec you want to save it under (huffy preffered" then press ok.
Now you should have a large, yet fully working PS2 avi for video use.
If you want to attach the audio back to the movie, you can use virtualdub. Open the avi in virtualdub, then under "audio" select "wav audio" and the wav you extracted earlier then the audio should be back with the movie. If you want to encode it into mpeg with Tmpegenc, you can load the m2v file for the video stream and the wav for the audio stream. You can encode the movie into whatever you want from this point or use it for a video.

Thank you! It worked just fine! Except in "Getting the sound" step, the site that has MF Audio is not allowing the file to be downloaded. It redirects to it's main page everytime I click on the download file.
EDIT: Thanks again! (For attaching the program). It really does work so feel free to try it!

I tried that with FFX and it didn't work. There were no mpg files upon searching with the extractor. I did multiple searches, and all I could find were some RIFF files, a FORM file, an MTM file, a bunch of txt files, and a flash file.

August 4th, 2004, 20:09
The posts before this state that the movies on the discs are a different places and are different sizes. Not to mewntion they are different games altogether :p
The program has to know what the movie file sizes are and the exact location of the movie.

But FFX and FFX-2 would both be MPG files... you said the process would work for both of them

FFX-2 FMV Extraction Guide For Windows 2000-XP
############################################
Needed programs
ISOBuster (http://www.isobusterdownload.org/isobuster_all_lang.zip)
Universal FFX2 Tool (http://www.squarerealm.com/downloads/ffx2tool.zip)
PSS_demux.zip (http://www.ngemu.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=74312)
DVD2AVI (http://www.divx-digest.com/software/dvd2avi.html)
Virtualdub (Divx/Xvid encoding) (http://www.virtualdub.org/)
Tmpegenc (MPEG encoding) (http://www.pegasys-inc.com/)
-------------------------------
Insert DVD to your drive, open ISOBuster and select the drive FFX-2 is in. Right click "Session 1" found on the left column in ISOBuster. Select "Extract Session 1 <image>" and choose "User Data(*.tao, *.iso)" and save this file as ffx2img.iso
-------------------------------
Once done, open up Universal FFX2 Tool. Click the search button and locate the image file you just saved. Set the "path to stored extracted files" to a directory on your hard drive that EXISTS. Now press "ExtractLBA + Check DVD". Wait till its done. Can take a while depending on speed of your computer. When its done, DO NOT CLOSE the program yet. After thats done, press the "Extract Files" button in the Universal FFX Tool program.
-------------------------------
After its all extracted, close the program and go to the directory with the extracted files.
Theres lots of files in here, all with no extentsion. Sort these files by size. Now the only files we are interested in are files greater than 10mb. (there should be about 22 files)
Move these files into a different folder. Or you can delete all the files besides the ones > 10mb. Now sort these files by name. You should see files with small numbers eg FILE17, FILE19 etc and files with large numbers eg FILE9366, FILE9367. Its the files with large numbers that we want. There should be 11 of them. As the file numbers may vary between different extracts and or NTSC/PAL disks, I cant give you a solid number for the file names. But if you have FILE9366 like I did, the last file would be FILE9376.
Add extentsion .pss to these 11 files.
-------------------------------
Open PSS Demux and drag and drop each file into this program, one at a time. You will now have 11 *.m2v files, 11 *.wav files and 11 *.dat files.
We only need the m2v and dat files.
The dat files are actually ac3 encoded sound files. If you have the ac3 codec, you can rename these to wav files and open them.
All thats left is to convert the m2v file into your movie format of choice and add the sound to it.
-------------------------------
Step 5: Converting the MPEG2 stream to avi or mpeg
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me any way you like. You can find the Info under my profile.

Well, this method seems to partially work for me. I can successfully extract the files, they even seem to play fine in WMP, but I cannot get PSS Plex to demultiplex them. It gives me an error such as "Invalid bits in MPEG1 stream."
Oops, I forgot to mention, I was talking about the first method.

I think I may have found a method of extraction. I know this works with FFX-2 and Xenosaga: Episode 1. I haven't had time to try others(I do know that it will NOT work with Kingdom Hearts, I think KH uses some other form of video). It does require some manual labor and is quite repetitive and time-consuming. All you should need is an ISO of the game and Hex Workshop(I used 4.2).
1. Open the ISO file in Hex Workshop.
2. Goto Edit and Find
3. Search for the Hex Values 00 00 01 BA 44 00 04 00
4. Make a note of the address it's found at. This is the first address.
5. Search for the Hex Values FF FF FF FF 00 00 01 B9
6. Make a note of the address right after the B9. This is the second address.
7. Move the cursor back to the first address.
8. Goto Edit and Select Block
9. Choose "Size of Block" and enter second address minus first address
10. Goto File and choose Save Selection to save the PSS to a file.
11. Move the cursor to the second address and repeat 3-10 until you are through searching the ISO.

PSS Demux is much faster than PSS Plex and doesn't produce garbled wav but also working ac3 (.dat)
schattenberg88 method was a breeze, I already had IsoBuster/TMPGEnc on my system
Rip ISO, extract with the tool, demux and mux m2v and dat into a nice mpg stream :)
Edit: Oh and those ac3 tracks are DolbyDigital EX compatible :D

I would, if I knew how to. So far, this topic has only been about how to RIP FMVs. I'm not sure how to or if it's possible to RIP regular gameplay. And unfortunately, LeBlanc isn't in any of the FMVs.
Can you manually record them from the game while you're playing? (If you know how to...)

I was hoping that someone could help me out. I've followed all of the instructions, and I have the movies. However using MFAudio, I get scratchy nothing, and PSS Plex says that invalid streams were found in MPEG1, or something of the sort. These are the FMV's from Kingdom Hearts II. Any tips or advice?

I just thought I should make a note of a difficulty and the resolution to a problem I had using schattenberg88's method in post #17 (the DVD decrypter method.) When I split the initial ISO the 6th vid stream got cut into 2 pieces so when I went to demultiplex the files I got an error on the 7th which was auctually the 2nd half of the 6th. All the rest were fine but to get this one whole so I could demultiplex it I resplit the ISO into 6 parts and previewed each file until I found the one that had initially been split and extracted just that one. You however CAN'T initially split the ISO into 6 because it will cause some of the other video streams to be segmented, you have to split it twice, annoying but it works. I don't know if anybody else had this problem but I hope this note helps.

I am currently making a final fantasy visual roleplay group on Palace (You can dl at avatarpalace.net) I was wondering if there is a way to rip the ffx city backgrounds? like the backgrounds for Luca, and Besaid etc. I have been looking high and low and i haven't been able to find anything or figure out how to do it. so if somebody could help me that=would rock.

Hi folks,
I know this thread is a bit old and it may be days or weeks before a reply is posted, but I thought I'd post regarding FF X-2. The final, secret, super-duper, 100% ending (The one where Tidus and Yuna are speaking to each other in the ruins of Zanarkand) seems to be missing from the videos I decrypted. There is, however, one pss file that will not decrypt and I'm wondering if that is the one. It is the 9117 file at 158,494KB. The error message I get from PSS_demux, PSSPlex, and PSS_Player is simply "not a pss file."
Have I missed this video somehow or what? I've seen it online in a pretty fuzzy google video at Final Fantasy X-2 - Perfect Ending - Google Video (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=78115788366057621&q=final+fantasy+x-2&pr=goog-sl)
Well, hopefully someone can figure it out.

Oh man that thing works great! Wowzers, so easy. I wish I had this program this morning when I spent like 4 hours just doing what that program did in 2 minutes.
Thanks man!
Erm... that movie I mentioned in my previous post is nowhere to be found. I wonder if it is even on the DVD? I guess I should just be thankful I got to see it at all.

Hey, ive extracted all 11 FMV's from FFX-2, im just wondering, where is the Perfect (100%) Ending located in the disc?
I cant seem to find it.
Edit - Oh Nevermind. It seem's that it is an in game cutscene, not an FMV. I guess i'll have to find a captured version lying around the net somewhere.
And for those who want a kick ass way to encode these.
Just use pss demux, then use AutoGK to encode the the mv1 files to the highest quality XviD, then use virtualdub to add the uncompressed audio, looks freakin beautiful.

Couldn't you just use some screen recorder while you play the game like hyper cam or something. Go through the game and capture every movie...
