You must set your virtual drive, and click just init, but be sure, that you have flash and bios .bin in chankast directory.
Ps.
Don`t even think about asking where you can get this two files!!

i have windows xp pro. i don't know why i keep having this problem when i click the init i get this window messege saying"this window needs to close down". i have both the flash and the bios files in same directory where chankast is. is there some other way to load up a game? i do have daemon tools to create the virtual drive. and 1 more thing what is the "init" for under options?

Wrong..
I have Win2k and it runs! I donīt have tested any games yet, but the Bios runs very well at 43fps and with the newgfx Version at 50fps! Thats all on my 2000+ AMD System with a old GeForce 2 MX card!

_Austin_Of course it runs under Win 2k, there's not that much difference between Win2k and XP. If you have 98 or 95, then it won't run. Why do you think lots of programs and drivers have that Win2k/XP label.

The init is for the program to run the game.

crap it still doesn't work! anyone have the same issue? what's the deal with this? kinda getting frustrated over this stupied problem. can anyone give me details on how they got their game to load up? maybe something is wrong with my bios or something?

On the Chanka.org site it states it will only run properly on Windows xp or above
I dont know the technical details of why this is. I have Windows 2000 and can run the BIOS however the games I have ran dont seem to work, I think this may be due to the cdrom.dll requiring a dll only avaliable with windows xp

Heres a tutorial fror chankast i found...

http://www.emulatronia.com/parcial/chankast.zip

Its a pdf file and contains all the info needed.

May 30th, 2004, 05:51
thnx for that info i will look at it carefully so hopefully it can help me solve my problem! but i don't know why it isn't in english why spanish?

tookers
May 30th, 2004, 05:56
Im going to install Windows XP.. if it works then I guess the operating system is the problem. I think the dev team for chankast are spanish... they are featured on alot of spanish emu sites.

hmmm i guessing its not the operating system. i think its my configuration. i was reading the pdf and its says to use dreamcast games on cd or iso formats and to mount them on virtual drive.

Which version of Chankast are you using?
Try the new_gfx version, have you configured the controls and which cd drive to use?
My problem is different as I have windows 2000 and can only boot to the bios but not into any games.
Are you using daemon tools? You can only use cdi, iso or any other type of dreamcast image file, i think it has to be self-boot also. Chankast doesnt actually have a GD rom driver and so booting from physical cd isn't possible

red_dragoon33
May 30th, 2004, 06:30
im using chankast 0.1. not configured controls yet.and yes im using daemon tools. the image that i have is cdi and other is mdf. does it matter which format the image is? or does it have to be iso? and what if the image is not self-boot? how do i make it self-boot?

tookers
May 30th, 2004, 06:36
Shouldnt matter... just mount the cdi file. Have you checked your system log files? this may show whats causing the problem, as it may be a certain file.
Right Click 'My Computer' > Select 'Manage' > Double Click 'Event Viewers' > System

Run Chankast again and then do as i said above and it should show what error caused chanka to crash.

i did what u said it shows same fault address with some code. how do i make the image self-boot?

Could you copy the information and i'll see if i can figure it out!?
To boot a non selfboot dc game on chanka I think you can use a boot disc (same method used with non-self-boot discs on the dc). I have the Utopia cdi image, which should work with chanka.

Games run fine on Chankast with a self-dumped bios & flash on Win2k on an Athlon XP 2800+, 768MB Ram, and a GF4Ti4600. Of those that work, I get 40-60 fps. Bios gives me 90 fps at all time.

must be something on my machine then... because I intially tested chankast on windows 2000 and then soon after seeing the offical chankast tutorial and the only difference i could see was the operating system I switched to win XP and everything runs fine

this is the error message under event viewer:"faulting application chankast_alpha.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module chankast_alpha.exe, version 0.0.0.0,fault address 0x000375a2". 1 more thing would the emulator load up the bios and work even if the controls are not set up?

I could not find a thread with this question so here it go: How can I play the game If the cd-rom and dvd-rom drive can read it. ok I have to back it up to my pc, how and with what software? I forgot to mention I heard it has to a .ip.bin file, am I right ? if not what type of file?

red_dragoon33
May 30th, 2004, 23:53

I have some problems ith booting games too.i have radeon 9600 pro, 512mb ram,p4 1500mhz, windows xp pro sp1 and i can boot games from my dvd and from an image device.
I have download some boot cd's from http://www.megagames.com/dc/dc_utils_bootcd.shtml (i hope this is not illegal..sorry if it is)
with the utopia cd i get an error with an AV cable("This game doesn't support the AV cable that is currently connected to the main console. Turn off the power and replace the AV cable.")..i cant understand why
with Boot Loader v1.2 i get an image which says to insert a disc..but when im inserting an image in alcohol 120% of resident evil: code veronica it doesnt do anything.did someone know what i have to do?
I have download and a dreamcast game (Beats of rage) from http://senileteam.segaforums.com/bor_download.php (this is sure NOT illegal). when im booting it it only shows sega logo and then the emulator stuck...has anyone else the same problem?
(i have also notice that it can't play audio cd's but only read them.why?)

well at least u can get that far. i can't even load up the bios. the emulator crashes after i click init. wish i didn't have this problem so i can test out some games on this great emulator.

tookers

the ip.bin is a bootstrap... its put onto dreamcast cd images to make them self boot.
Although some games can be booted using a boot disc (utopia).
I used clonecd to copy my 3rd strike (backup) cd to an image on my pc and then mounted using daemon tools and it worked.

red_dragoon33
May 31st, 2004, 01:56
so when u have the dc_bios and dc_flash under the same directory where chankast is and u start the emulator and click init what happens after? does the bios load up when u click init?

tookers
May 31st, 2004, 02:12
initially the bios will begin to load unless you have a cd image mounted. If you have no cd image mounted then the bios will load up.

I'm trying to use Alcohol120%'s virtual drive to boot images and not having any luck. (but bear in mind im new to dreamcast emulation) Is this ok or must i use Daemon tools like most people mention?

Also, how are people running games if (as ive read) PCs cannot read the DC's GD-ROM discs? Because you can now get DC games *very* cheap in the shops, and I was thinking of buying a few just for tests! Just curious...

crap the emulator still crashes after i click init. bios doesn't even get loaded. i have never encountered this kinda problem. the other emulators i tried run smoothly on my comp. no problems at all. maybe the chankast team should make some support documents.
