NG Evangelion - WTF!?

I just finished watching the Neon Genesis Evangelion series and the movie, End of Evangelion. All I can say is WTF!? I looked at another thread here that tried to explain some things, and it helped a bit, but I still have many more questions. Here are a few.

1) What is Gendou Ikari's objective? If he wants to merge all souls into one, which is the same thing that SEELE wants, then why did SEELE attack NERV?

2) Who/what is Rei? Is she a human clone of Lilith?

3) What are all the look-a-likes of Rei doing in Central Dogma? Why did Ritsuko destroy them?

4) If humans are descendants of Lilith and angels are descendants of Adam, then why did Katsugari (probably wrong spelling) say that humans are also angels?

5) Why did SEELE create the Second Impact? Why did it want to convert Adam into an Embryo?

6) Where in the series was Adam's Embryo transfered onto Gendou's hand? Did I miss something?

7) Why is Asuka in a coma in End of Evangelion? Was it due to depression?

8) What elements are needed for the Third Impact? What did SEELE originally plan to use? What did Gendou plan to use?

9) If the Evangelions are made from Lilith, why do they look so much like Adam?

10) Why is Unit 01 special? How is it different from the other units? (Could Unit 02 have been used for the Third Impact if it wasn't destroyed before hand?)

11) Why did Shinji strangle Asuka/Misato/Rei to death in the end of End of Evangelion? Didn't he love them?

12) Is End of Evangelion an alternate ending to the series of only a continuation of the TV episodes?

13) I watched about 30 minutes of Evangelion: Death and Rebirth. It seems just to be a summary with a bit more explanation and a few more scenes. Is there really any point to watching it or am I just wasting my time?

14) I really like the music from this anime, and I am currently looking for an album called "Evangelion Symphonic." If anyone knows where I could buy this from, it would be greatly appreciated. I have already checked Ebay and some other online stores.

:hdbash: Hard questions. Its been awhile. All I can say is watch it once more. First time watching it, i myself had exact questions. Second time i understood it better. But now i forgot everything. The movies were alternative endings that couldve been type of thing. So End of Evangelion is alternative and not coninuation. Well hope someone can answer rest of your questions because im stumped.

Ok lets ill post my own conclusions, not that they have any value but they will help for some discussion.

1) What is Gendou Ikari's objective? If he wants to merge all souls into one, which is the same thing that SEELE wants, then why did SEELE attack NERV?


I think his objective is something more in the lines of reviving Shinji's mother (Hence why his second in command told him to give her his regards.)


3) What are all the look-a-likes of Rei doing in Central Dogma? Why did Ritsuko destroy them?

They are just empty vessels. Each time a Rei die they use one of them, put a soul into them (or imprint part of Llilith's personality, only guessing, but that would explain why each one of the 3 Reis where so different in personality)

Ritsuko killed them to discharge his own depression and hate towards Gendou for not loving her.

4) If humans are descendants of Lilith and angels are descendants of Adam, then why did Katsugari (probably wrong spelling) say that humans are also angels?

Well my guess here is that the angels are angel for the sole reason of being Adam decendance, so my guess is that their power is inferior to that of Adam. So humanity would also have inherited Lilith's powers, but since we are so many we only inherited a lil percentage of this angelical status, or so i guess.

5) Why did SEELE create the Second Impact? Why did it want to convert Adam into an Embryo?


They did so so that the second impact wouldnt destroy earth, so they managed to triggered it earlier, when its devastation power wasnt as strong yet. Im supposing they took advantage afterwards to capture adam and study it.

6) Where in the series was Adam's Embryo transfered onto Gendou's hand? Did I miss something?

Asuka was only a Screen for Kaji, that is, when he supposedly was bringing her to Japan, in fact he was carrying Adam's embrio to Gendou

7) Why is Asuka in a coma in End of Evangelion? Was it due to depression?


I guess so


9) If the Evangelions are made from Lilith, why do they look so much like Adam?


Hmmm... i though the Evas were Adam's clones...

10) Why is Unit 01 special? How is it different from the other units? (Could Unit 02 have been used for the Third Impact if it wasn't destroyed before hand?)

Thats also a mistery for me... my only guess is that :
- it was the one that inherited the most of Adam's characteristics
-It had shinji who achieved the maximum syncronization ratio.

12) Is End of Evangelion an alternate ending to the series of only a continuation of the TV episodes?

Yeah but remember everyone was oogie boogie by then. In fact it was a strange feeling of love and hate (for not loving him back i guess)

The recap finishes about 20 minutes before the episode is over. After that we can see the begining of the invasion of Nerv's HQ

The Captain, I had the exact same response after I finished watching Eva TV, and an even more stronger one after I watched the OVAs. One of the article I read on this matter was that Eva was suppose to point out the isolation between people that occurs in Japan and other social problems. It was a bit too philosophical for my taste. I mean, at least have some sort of ending that tells where everyone ended up would've made it a lot better. (Instead of the clapping...)

Hmmm well i think there will be a live action move and a remake, buti dont know about NGE2 There's just about 0 room for a sequal. you can't start anew after the third impact did what it did. i'm guessing that guy was going off of untrue rumors he's heard. There has been absolutely no announcement whatsoever to continue the story. There will be a live action movie, though, and a DVD rerelease thing that i saw in newtype.

the ending of the series was dumb, but the open endness of the End of Evangelion was great, imo. They WANT to make you think. That's the objective of the entire series. Anything clear cut at the end would promote less thinking, therefore completely countering their entire set of intentions. NGE would not be the same as it is, if they tied up the ending

I watched the series three times and I still can't figure it out... Still, it's a great anime... Oh, I think the ending was about that shinji will decide the fate of human kind...

Eva is a number one mindf**k anime ever made. You have to watch it several times before it opens up. About asuka in coma, her mind was "raped" or defiled by angel, remember? All her deepest secrets, inner self that she tried to hide from herself, (directors cut ep of this episode brings more detail to this) everything was brought up causing mental breakdown. And some say (and i believe it) that after mental breakdown she slit her wrist. Look at the water in a tub where she is where NERV agents found her. Its quite red. She also had quite big bandaging (too big for a simple iv needle) on a wrist too, where shinji, eh, you know.... :)

About Gendos motives, yes, its about seeing Shinji's mother again.

Unit 1 was a clone of lilith where other units were clones of adam. Thats why they could use it to cause third impact instead of using real lilith. (crusifixed under nerv, remember?)

And answer to question number twelve: The EoE wasnt alternate or continuation to TV eps. Its something that happened AT SAME TIME with last two TV episodes. Shinji hid himself to his mental world of selfpity in EoE, and last two tv eps showed actually what was going on in his brain. He woke up from it (tv eps, I AM NEEDED AFTERALL thought) just to see Eva02 in pieces and obviously asuka dead, causing him go mental again. :lol:

Eva is one of those "you either dont understand it and hate it or understand it and love it" animes. I, for one, love it. Its one of best animes i have. :D

Hmm... if you want to see something that is even more mind screwing than Eva try Serial Experiments Lain (IMO the tone of EVA is tons more cheerful and understandable than Lain :p)(Not that Lain isnt something that you will never get, but you have to pay attention to the details)

meh, i understood for the most part what it was about the first time, the only time i watched it, but it didnt appeal to me... it just seemed cheesy... interesting, but cheesy... i did kinda like the evangelion music theme though :p

my gf watched but didn't understand most of the mythos used in the series (even i fail to grasp some stuff in it) but she loved it, manly by the mental states of the characters , and eva was the reason we first meet, a common friend introduced us becuase of our shared obsession with anime ;), i can' say that anime played a very positive roll in my life

I forgot another thing. the kiss that Misato gave to Shinji did she mean what she said and did? "that was a grown up kiss, we'll do the rest when you come back."

Shinji is not gay, Kaoru was just his ONLY friend (even thought he was bit gayish :p ) who understood Shinji completely, a real friend who shinji could "open up" for from his shell. Thats why shinji acted the way he was.

WTF!? What episode have you been watching? Human Instrumentality Hentai Project? :lol: All i remember basing on descrition were when Shinji "fell" on top of Rei and his hand... cough... lucky guy. :p And when Rei number 2 died, Misato was just going to confort him like a good big sister (she was like Shinji's non-relative big sister/mother afterall) when she took shinjis hand, but Shinji instead pulled back to his shell of misery and pain. I cant remember to death about what happened with Asuka.

And the kiss was just to give Shinji inspiration with empty words, and BOTH shinji and misato knew it is not going to happen and misato was going to die. (and that is why shinji started to cry in elevator.... again... and pulled back to his shell.... again.... Sometimes, i just hate Shinji, but i just cant :) )

Aaaa, those. Those are just examples how fecked up shinjis mind is. And they are also visions. Its what happened in End Of Evangelion at the end. All human souls were fused to one existence of life. Then shinji realised that isnt good and gave humans new chance. And then we are at the beach and EoE ends.

Try watching Texhnolyze (sp?)... I got through the first ep and never watched it again...
