View Full Version : Problems with GSsoft

Ever since I have tried PCSX2 v0.6 it always crashed on frame count 423 when using GSsoft v0.7.

This is the last line shown in the console window

open name rom0:FONTS flag 1 data 41278
open fd = 2

at first I thought it was just PCSX2 v0.6 since v0.5 worked fine, but it turned out it was something with the plugin. I can run the older GSsoft v0.61 on both versions and the bios runs fine without crashing.

I have read and tried all the ideas for fixes, but nothing seems to work here. I have removed the registry settings, I have recompiler disabled, textures settings unchecked and everything is pretty much default. Also like I said I can get the older version of the GSsoft Plugin working fine for both PCSX2 v0.5 and v0.6.

My system settings are

AMD Athlon 1.4 GHz T-Bird
Nvidia GeForce 5200 drivers 56.72
DirectX 9.0b

Any help would be great .. also the new plugin gabest released also crashes at the same spot.

Edit: I checked the old version of GSsoft to see what was after that on the console .. and that it is where the the bios is supposed to start playing and that is where it is crashing. :/

are you sure you disabled the vu recompiler? :S

edit: remember that the setting is "disable VU recompiler" so the registry option should be set to "1"

be sure you dont have Texture Caching enabled on the GSSoft plugin, its quite buggy still so it hangs after so many frames.

yeah already mentioned it is not enabled

umm what is it that its crashing on? is it everything or just when you use run/Execute? tried any other bios's on it?

I have exactly the same problem: it crashes at framecount 423 with an unknown exception error. Its strange that the emulator dosn't detects the sse and sse2 in addition.
My system: AMD Athlon 1,3GHZ Nividia GeForce 2

yeah I have another computer here which is a P3 450 MHz with a TNT2 Ultra and it does not crash with the same settings so it must be something to do with my current hardware or drivers. Going to reinstall my video drivers again to see if that is the issue.

hmmm, what BIOS are you using?
i think that reinstall your Video drivers wont work as GSsoft is a Software driver ;)

Hmm..try setting the null CDVD plugin and go to run-->execute

The issue is not just with GSsoft but also gabest new plugin, and GStaris 0.66 as well.

Yep did that .. same thing everytime.

It must be a compatibility issue with the hardware since Bruce Lee has the same issues as me and like I posted earlier I can get it to run fine on a P3 450 MHz system with a TNT2 Ultra video card with all the plugins. Same config and registry settings .. but always crashes unless I use GSsoft v0.61. I will get a hold of linuzappz next time I see him and let him know.

I have seen other threads with the same issue .. but none of those solutions worked either and I am not even sure if those people got it working cause they never replied back to say if it was working. :p

The Gssoft 0.61 also work with my Computer and also the Gstaris 0.66 shows some results. But the Gssoft 0.7 crashes also when i try to run some little demo games(not commercial) that work with Gssoft 0.61 and Gstaris 0.66.

found your problem, PCSX2 is compiled with SSE instruction optimization and the AMD Tbird does NOT support SSE. so thats why its crashing ;) i had the same error when trying to compile the PCSX2 source without SSE enabled.

Yeah I talked with Linuzappz about the problem and that is what he is thinking as well. I have tried the latest betas of PCSX2 and GSsoft and it works fine once again. So we will just have to wait for the next release and the SSE thing could also be the reason gabest's Plugin doesn't work either since it crashes on the new beta of PCSX2 as well as 0.6.

I did not have much time to test the plugin of Gabest,
but it started to boot the bios correct so i think it works well.

Doh! :p Well thats strange that he said it crashes on 0.6 cuz it works for me perfect. Anyways I guess Keith has some really bad luck (the perfect mix of hardware for it not to work) :/
