As originally reported by GameSpot, Final Fantasy XI will be released across multiple platforms. Although the PS2 and PC versions are the only ones officially announced at this time, the game will appear on the Microsoft Xbox and judging from Sakaguchi's latest comments could be released on the Nintendo GameCube. GameSpot will continue to follow the game's development and will have further information as it is released.

I'm happy to be born...

FFXI should definitely stay offline (mainly so I won't have to get a DSL modem). Plus, I'm paying Square 15-20 dollars a month. Just think: If FFVII, VIII, and IX cost $40 and FFX costs $50, you play FFXI for more than two month and you get ripped off! That makes me sick. :spy:

Metalmurphy
September 20th, 2001, 10:32
FFXI WILL be online! It was already announced by Squaresoft a long time ago! :( But i don't think you'll need an DSL modem dude. U must think that it's a basic game, there are only the Attack, Magic, etc... commands for the modem to send.

do u know anarchy online...well to play it online u have to pay about 20$ (i think) for two or three mounts...and square is thinking to do so with ffXI

Neojag
September 26th, 2001, 22:07

They'll sell less games that way.

Look at how much everquest and ultima online has sold. The general public seems to have no problem with the $$ per a month schemes right now.

Zell

Square should first of all lunch FF X for PC ! FF Online, how will that work ??

Neojag

my phone bills are high enough without having to pay $$ for playing online...

Well when I'm at home (ie not at my place at uni) I access the net via my fathers company lan. Needless to say the proxy prevents online gaming (and I would push it don't want him fired). Hence I won't get FFXI. Ever. Pity.

I'll have to be a very good boy :innocent: and suck up a lot to get DSL so that people won't pound the crap out of me when I'm battling them on a *cough*56K Modem*hack, hack*... Plus the monthly charge is going to kill me (considering I have no allowance and all my games are bought by my mom...) Guess I'll go study french...

i use our company's ras to connect to the net, slow as hell, but its free... ehehe:D

Moved the thread, since it has nothing to do with ePSXe.

As for FF XI, we're almost guaranteed to see some sort of monthly payment plan; the question is only how much. I would expect a minimum of $10 a month to play the game (this is on top of rumors that access to Square's special server will run at $10 a month). Is that good? No. Oh well.

Personally, I don't see how Squaresoft will make much money out of FFXI unless they go with pay per month plan. It costs a lot of money to run web servers, and with the popularity of FF series, at least a million copy will be sold. That means, there will be at least thousands of people trying to get on to their FFXI server per day, and because of the large amount of data that has to be transferred between the clients and the host (I'm assuming the FFXI is huge..I mean huge), it would cost Squaresoft quite a bit of money to maintain their servers.

Perhaps the cost could be covered by the montly payment for using Squaresoft Online Game service ($10-20??). Since, people can only play one Squaresoft Online game at a time, $10-20 per month for the whole service makes sense. I believe this is the best scenario.

FFX IS CONFORMED FOR PC. Square was reported to have said it somewhere on IGN.com. They said it would be making its way to the pc in coming years. What does that mean? I dunno. We might have to wait a while for it I guess.

Of corse there has been no news since then but lets wait till its out in the us first...

Also there has been more evidence but it has been trvial. Something about Square prefering to release PC software in Asia more since FFVII/VIII pc sold much better than there Psx counterparts.

Nothing is certain really but Square did say it. If you really want me to find it I will but its like 2 sentances though.

Shiori
October 8th, 2001, 06:26
well PC parts are almost always made in asian countries, so we get better prices on pats than the rest of the world. :) and since people tend to buy more PCs here, i guess that would explain Square's line of thinking in an Asia-only release of FFX, if it ever comes.

Anyway, if it ever comes out in an english version there's no reason why it'll never reach American shores, albeit in the form of bootleg CDs.

Personally, I'd like to see it in a PC version. :)

You are not the only one !! And Samor is right if it wasn't ePSXe FF IX would be a Failure !!! Oh and i got mad at the No of the FF IX PC version !! I hate Square    :dead: :dead: :dead: :dead: :laser: :rockets: :rockets: :smash: :smash: :smash: :shout: :shout:

accoding to kazzuya ( he was working in square company and he was the one who ported the ff8 to pc version ,in case u dont know ), he guess the reason that no ff9 on pc mostly was because square has invested too much money on ff movie that made square has not enough money to invest on another products...they did cut or pospone alot of projects due to the ff movie....this sucks...

yeah, i think that's a lotta bull too...IMO the reasom why square didnt make a PC version was because of bad feedback on the PC version of FFVIII....gamers said it was a simple port to PC...no graphics enhancesments, too slow, and a whole plethora of other complaints. I guess Square got tired of it, thus shelving plans for a PC version.

Xeven
October 15th, 2001, 06:26
well yeah, a lot of people complained about the port, the least they could have done was put a 'quit' button on.. but 'CTRL+Q'? to quit? jeesuz.. ehehe:D:D:D or wuz that another game?

Shiori
October 15th, 2001, 06:39
i used to alt-tab, then ctrl-alt-deleted to task manager to quit it. :p it was a VERY tedious process....btw they also should've put a load game function. :p

About FF8, does anyone know how to get it work right at my Nvidia GeForce 2 Mx 200? There's crap lines because the texel
aligment is WRONG. I can adjust it but it only changes little.
I've got new drivers and tweaked bigger numbers to texel...
doesen't work. Only way is to play software...
Work-around is that I use quater-screen and change the texel to 3 (or was it 4) then it works... anyway to get it working FULL-SCREEN?! :(

There is a fix avalaible for this on ea's ftp-server:
ftp://ftp.ea.com/pub/ea/patches/ff8/ff8sqeanvpatch.zip
This is supposed to fix this issue but i dunno cos i don't own a Nvidia Card.

well, i will believe the words said by the guy who was working on squaresoft rather than heard some ....

To make my statements more clearer, i was the one who posted on his forum and asked about why he quited squaresoft and why squaresoft dont make a ff10 for pc version....

This is sad when i heard someone said those was bull****s....i just posted what i know and what he told me....i dont mind if u say i BS but if u say kazzuya BS,i totally dont agree.

well everyone has their own opinions. believe what yo think is right, but looking at a gamer's point of view, and having played all versions of ffVII and VIII, i'd say both ports to PC were very average ports. And since pretty much everyone has a PSX (or emu), why waste company resources on a version that'll only recieve lukewarm interest at best?
