None what so ever. Geforce4 mx cards are dx7 class. You'd need atleast a Geforce3, 4ti, or newer.

Yeah, just like me they got you... you bought a PC with GF4 and you thought
"Yay, I have a GF4... I can sell my GF2MX!!!"
But that GF4 has MX in the name, meaning that it's just a GF2MX Turbo
No pixel shaders, not even the first versions :p... and Vertex Shader isn't even hardware :(

Don't you hate that? :p I've been playing PoP lately and it uses quite a bit of pixel shader effects so I had to castrate the video settings and disable a lot of the special effects just to get it to run properly on my card. It didn't turn out too bad though.

Repeat that when you try to play Silent Hill 3 or HL2 (HL2 works without, but it's damn slow and ugly)

Ah, so that's why the vertex shader part of 3DMark 2001 ran so slow on my K6-2 box when I had my GF4 MX 420 in it :p.

iam stuck with the same problem. i got a G4 mx 440 and i was waiting to get my hands on PoP. when i got it, i realised that my card dosen't have any @#$%!* pixel shaders :hdbash: i had to play it at my friends place. its really wierd that the game dosen't support a GForce 4 when you see the nVidia logo in the intro :cuss2: "the way its ment to be played" yeah right.

The game can run and use pixel shaders fine on Geforce 4 ti cards and even on Geforce3 cards which also have PS. It's your video card that isn't allowing the game to use all the effects.

It's not weird, it does support the GeForce 4, the real one, the GF4 mx is just an improved GeForce 2. And many games with the nvidia logo on them won't run with older hardware that can't provide the required features.

i don't have a Gforce4 Ti. i got a Gforce4 MX 440. the game does run but with really crappy graphics and its soooo slow that you think the whole game is running in "Bullet Time"(if you played Max Payne, you know what i mean by that ;) )

There's no other way than changing for a better card :p
Aim for at least a GF5600 or its ATI equivalent, the prices are starting to be reasonnable (but still more than I can afford now :p)

Yea i have a Geforce4Ti 4200 and it has pixel shading...not the highest level (considering its not a dx9 card) but it still has some. It came with morrowind just to show it off :p

I got it for about $125 a year ago and it still does me just fine with everything i do

It runs like complete ass on my card. I've turned everything to lowest with no effect. I don't think it's my CPU, I'm sure it can pull in more than 3fps.

How'd you do it?

no thankx dude. nVidia have already launched the GeForce 6800 Ultra. thankx to this mother of a card, the game developers will push the envelope even further. every damn gfx card has a lifespan of about 6 to 8 months. i really wonder why the hell they cost a fortune when they don't even last a year  i think were better off buying a console. atleast they last about 4 to 5 years ;)

Many players don't have 400$ to spend in a card, even if they'd like to

extremematt

The good news with the release of the new generation GeForce cards is that the other, older cards will get lower in price gradually. Same goes for ATI's cards if they want to remain in competition. A GeForce4 4200 (with nice CPU) will get 11,000 to 12,000 points in 3DMark 2001, and they're DX 8.1 cards, whereas my friends Radeon 9600 XT does 12,500 points in 3DMark 2001 and costs almost twice as much... however.. it is a DX 9.0 card...

just an fyi, hehe.
