S3 Mx/ix

does anyone here own a laptop with a savage mx/ix graphics card..., is it good for gaming(and emulation)???

Labtops generally aren't good for gaming, especially with a S3 videocard. My labtop has a S3 Virge MX and I can't play anything on it... well, I was able to run Unreal on it using Direct3D, at about 2 FPS!!:P Talk about a 3D de-celerator, software rendering is MUCH faster! LOL! I can run NES and SNES emulators decently, as well as Final Burn(CPS2 arcade emulator) at 400x300 fine. PSX-wise, the only thing I can run half-decently is Final Fantasy Tactics on VGS. You should consider the newer labtops which come with a GeForce 2 Go (about equivalent to a GeForce 2 MX) GPU so you can play 3D games at decent frame rates. The Dell Inspiron 8000(I think it's the model) ran Quake 3 @ 800x600x16 at over 90 FPS, which is pretty good for a labtop.

The Savage IX is actually quite advanced for a notebook graphics chip as it has on-chip RAM. They should run fine at 640x480 with the D3D plguin.
