Hi everyone :),

I was wondering if it is possible to extract the models and their textures from a PS2 game and convert them so they could be used in a 3d Modelling Apllication...

Sorry if anyone has asked this before but I did a search and found nothing...

I've actually been wondering this myself. It seems like it'd be quite complex though. Considering how game companies had to make their own development libraries, it seems the models would all be stored differently :(.

Yeah... It probably would be hard, but there must be a way to do it...

It would be so killer to have the models from a PS2 game...

mabee it can be added as a feature to GSsoft and/or GSMax *wink*wink*

Technically, it can be added to the GS plugins, yes. Will it be done ? No idea, though I think it was once discussed.

I'd like to see that. I remember Milkshape could import one type of PS1 model, but the only thing i ever found in that format to import was the hands of people from Resident Evil 1... :hdbash:

Its a real killer isnt it?

That feature would be pretty cool...though I have no use for it I still think its cool :)

Yeah, Does anyone know if anything else actually imported into that?

Anyway, I used to have this thing where I made 3d pictures with the characters from games, I tried to find some FF7 battle models, but ended up having to try and make my own. I made a Cloud that looked half decent but lost it when I had to format my computer...

Ok, Would it be easier to extract PS1 models or would there be the same issues?

Just thought I'd ask here instead of making another thread...

i want DMC2 models!!! Dante is so badass

Vanit

There is a program out that can read the FF7 PSX models right off the disc. If I remember correctly you can get it from www.zophar.net

Aphius
March 30th, 2004, 03:14
I went there and got it, but I havn't had a chance to use it yet. Is there any way to extract them? :heh:

Pity there isn't a application that understands multiple file formats, I'd love to make one eventually but I am only just getting into coding and all the related stuff.

Even if you got your hands on the models you couln't do anything with them.

you could use programs like 3D studio or Animation Master and then animate the models. Thats what im trying to do

I used that FF7 program and it was really cool, a real pity it doesn't extract them though.

I'd use the models in any 3d application that would support any format they were extracted to. It would be cool to make a game with the models that you extracted from the PS2 games you had...

IF you want ff7 and or eight models they have the pc versions...

I personally doubt this will ever happen. Its too much work to make a feature for such a limited audience.

If I ever made a game like that I'd make it so everyone had to use a certain set of character features (for obvious reasons), but since I'd be like an administrator I'd make it so I looked completely different from everyone else.

I'd make myself Cloud or something.

I'd thought of that, but a lot of other games with cool models seem to dodge the PC...

hey guys, i found a n64 emu that could export the entire screen in 3d, NGEmu (http://www.nemu.com). The form that talks about it is HERE (http://www.emutalk.net/showthread.php?t=12976). I used it and it seems to work. I got link out of SSB already. ask if u want some pix ;)

I read the thread too. I'll have to have a look at it. :thumb:

Its not quite that simple, dumping a bunch of random coordinates is easy. The file would need some type of format for anyone to make sense of it.

The plugin on that site uses a .vrml file i think

They used something like 3ds max to look at them and convert them to other formats.

Edit: .wrl
The VRML world format.

What do you use to animate your models?

Does anyone know if there is any kind of plugin to do the model dumping thing on PS1?

(since there are no real PS2 emus that work properly I wouldn't bother asking for one for it)

Not possible, the PSX has no Z coordinate info.

ahh how does that work.... x,y... no z. but its still 3D???

Raziel
April 8th, 2004, 05:32
As Pete and Lewpy once said, the PSOne is to be considered as a 2D accelerator, not 3D, search a bit through Pete's posts, and you'll find any info you need.
And indeed, no Z, hence the lack of perspective correction, and other misc features.

Well, I guess I'll just have to get back to looking for a way to extract models from the disks...

Vanit
April 13th, 2004, 15:08
Just get a knife and try to cut the part fo the disc off with the 3D models and then put the fragment into your CDROM drive and hope for the best :). - I take no responsibilty for the outcome.

ok, im getting really pissed off at 3Ds Max. I was almost done animatieing link and the thing screwed up. When editing the model, the side closest to you dissapears so you can see the back of the model. You can rotate the camera angle and then see the frount through the back. Could some one please help me with this and then i could post an aniamtion.

I had a problem with that in 3d gamestudio, a simple editor but it does that.

The direction of the faces on your model are the wrong way around, is there some kind of flip normals button or option?

Also something that stops that in Gamestudio is turning on the option to "View backfaces" That draws both sides of the faces, I'd assume 3D Max would have something like that since its such a powerful and widely used program...

<-- Never used 3dsMax

Ok, I finally got emuforums to accept my attachments so all u can see my link!

Aphius, you are having the same problem as me. The reason i thought i was seeing through link was that the faces were inverted. Kunckles from Emutalk.com helped me out.

to fix it in 3ds max 5:
1st: select everything, go in the "utilities" tab (on the left, the little hammer)and select "collapse" then collapse selected, it will make an united mode of the whole thing
2nd: select you new model, go in the "modify" tab (same place) , in the list, click on "Editable mesh", go down a bit and select the red triangle.
3rd: go on one of your viewports and press CTRL+A (to select ALL faces)
4th: scroll down in the modify tab until you see "Surface properties" and click on the "flip" button.

It should reverse the way off all the selected faces and give you an almost perfect model.

Now I have never heard of Gamestudio, but hopefully this will help you. I am still having problems getting the textures out of N64 games. If anyone knows please contact me.

I'm not having that problem, it was one I had ages ago but I fixed it. (It was happening when I mirrored part of a model, the faces and all were inversed)

Gamestudio Site (http://www.conitec.net/a4info.htm) < You can see 3dGS there.

Does anyone know any 3d modellers or anything out there that can understand and convert .wrl files besides 3D Max?

Because getting 3dsMax would be overkill considering I just want to convert them to a format Milkshape would understand. :heh:

I am still having problems getting the textures out of N64 games. If anyone knows please contact me.Couldn't you just use the texture viewer thing in nemu's graphics plugin?

RIVAL FORCE
June 14th, 2004, 04:51
So where can i get the nemu plugin? or does it come with the emu it self? :spit:

Aphius
June 14th, 2004, 06:57
Yeah, it comes with the emulator itself.

I couldn't really work nemu well since I was better with 1964, so I just copied the plugin to the plugins folder of 1964. :guitar:

Never mind about the converter guys, I found one.

What utilities or programs do you use to view and extract the models from the game?

I downloaded Leviathan and Biturn and Unmass, but I can't seem to work Unmass to extract any files... :cuss2:

:edit: I found 'Jenova*Birth' that does the trick. :D

Let the fun Begin! :heh:
