I think bhmotorsports today takes the cake; not only is the site focused at one main genre called "sim racing" (which is actually a sub genre from just "racing games"), but they go even further now *see screenshot* ;)
I guess there's a market for these games, heh :p
*note: I'm not trying to pick on bhmotorsports here; I like the site a lot; just thought this was fun ;)

rally games... I don't think rally games usually are worth of a money... they are usually SOOOOO boring!!! you go trough couple of first races and you already know almost everything about it... Not always, but usually...
Samor
February 3rd, 2004, 17:39
well, yeah...sometimes they can be almost as boring as an rpg.

February 3rd, 2004, 17:56
well , in rpg u always want to know what will happen next , while in racing games u know what'll happen next (another same looking lap) and in rally games it's just turn right , turn left (and again and again) ..... zzzzzzzzz
CRASH
A: huh , what happened ?
B: I told u never to sleep while driving , u idiot

Indeed, let's face it... leveling up is about button mashing, in fact I doubt that ppl care to watch the battle, most likely they are looking at some other thing while they earn xp points (I for one, do that) ;)

February 4th, 2004, 09:46
Well... RPG's aren't everyones favourite, but they are mine... and uh, there are other RPG's than hack & slash, so theres more to it than just battles... some even have a story....
Kaiser Sigma
February 4th, 2004, 13:46
FF games have, most of the time, a great plot. That being said, the battles are nothing more than a mere button mashing until it's finished... strategy is something that is lost since long ago...

well... okay, but how many times have you started a rally game all over again?? and in some rpg's even in ff's there is a need for stragegies, for example FFX you need to use differen't characters to beat some bosses...Oh, and I won't be wondering if you don't like rpg's if you only smash one button in a battle...
Samor
February 5th, 2004, 08:51
well.... I try to improve times in racing games; that's one of the fun things; you're basically never done with a racer.
as for rpg's....so , you mean I have to come up with strategies even if theyre not nescesary or something? ;)
Oh, and I won't be wondering if you don't like rally games if you only push the gas button in a race.
Radix865

I said racing games are boring and that they usually have nothing new to start again... oh... I have a racing wheel for a PS2, and I'm going to buy NFSU, but until now there has been no rally game that I really wanted to start over... and besides in rpg's the battle isn't all, at least in ff's the story is the most important...

like I just said; never heard of improving your times?

well,
1) for stories I read a book or a watch movie
2) if the story is the most important, does that mean the gameplay is insignificant?
3) after you know the story, I recon there wouldnt me much reason to play it again anytime soon.

well ff boss battles requires great strategies
They do ? Since FFVII all I do is keep pressing the buttons in order to finish the enemies quick (enemies and bosses alike)... asides from the weapons and Ozma in FFIX, FF games are rather dull when it comes to battle... Rally games are still (IMO) less button mashers ;)
cloudvii
February 7th, 2004, 12:18
then u sure missed some difficult bosses (Diablo ffviii , fujin and raijin (they were hard when i played the no junction game) ffviii , the robot spider thing ffviii (how can anyone beat it , i knew some did , but how ? ) , hades ffix , demon book ffix)
i don't remember all of them now .
but u r right , as ff games depends mostly on story more than battles .
while CT or FFT were beter as strategy in battles was a must
Kaiser Sigma
February 7th, 2004, 12:33
Well, as I've said there are exceptions but those are the less (and yes, the ones you mentioned are good examples). However leveling up (for example) has become button mashing... when was the last time that you cared to see what was going on on a normal battle ? Most of the times you just keep pressing the buttons until you are on the world map screen again ;)
Radix865
February 11th, 2004, 08:37
improving times... ahh... let's see... best times almost every track on NFS 4, got bored... And in some games I really got bored of driving the same track again, again, again, again and so on... I've played racing games, but I still think they are boring... and for leveling in rpg's... you don't have to try level up all the time... leveling is boring...

sim racing and all that bull****, they're not that fun to me anyhow. I'd rather play street types (i.e. nfs underground) or arcade types, where the concern of the game is not realism nor the degree of difficulty but rather old school FUN™.. Not saying sim racers are not fun, but when i play games i'd rather be a bit more relaxed rather busting a gut coz i just missed a track :p On a sidenote, i'd rather play manual as well, even my own car has manual gear shift, coz i find automatic to be too boring and i might just fall asleep while on a long drive or something. :heh:

hm, well, in a good sim (emphasize on good), its actually rewarding and fun to develop a good driving style; you could take that as good gameplay.

World Circuit/Grand Prix 2 anyone ? You had to spend like 5-8 minutes configuring your car settings before starting a race :onthepull

hm, well, in a good sim (emphasize on good), its actually rewarding and fun to develop a good driving style; you could take that as good gameplay.Well you'd have to in order to survive a sim race game. And i would think that's on of the major emphasis of sim driving. That you have to be good at "driving". Take for example GT3, it's a great game by all means, but i was only able to finish up to 40 or prolly 50% of it. It took me literally months just to get to that amount of race percentage. I was pretty damn good with "driving" in the game too, but the degree of difficulty also increases exponentially as the races progress so i just gave up. It was just no fun at that point anyhow. My brother he's more of the psychopath racing gamer. So he finished that game 100%, he spent a hell of a lot of time tuning and testing those damned cars too. I guess as usual when it gets right down to it, its all depends on what's fun to you. :heh:
Forgot to mention he finished the game 100% 3 times. :heh:

That's way too much time ;)
Well... RPGs aren't that much of button mashing... actually everytime you are in the middle of the game (say Guadosalam in ffx, Cd2 in ffvii, etc.) then you have to use all your strategy potential..... why?, it is easy, because at those moments you have plenty of abilities to use, plus, your characters aren't developed enough as to keep using the "attack" command.
I'll put you an example.... I am currently playing ffx, I am trying to beat Braska's final aeon, and let me tell you that it is a titanic task, as my strongest character is Auron, with 4300 hp..... it means that it is a damn hard battle, as it deals a great damage, and when it pops up its (damn) sword, it kills my allies with one hit.... now you get mny point... in moments like those strategy is what counts....
PD: I haven't been able to beat it yet :p I guess I must think another strategy....

Just put all of your aeons to overdrive before the final battle Takmadeus, then summon all of them on the final battle, braska has no chance ;) (I finished FFX in about 35 hours)
I myself enjoy both good rpg and racing sims, it all depends on the game, if its good enough then I'll play them.
My record on racing sims is probably taking a full 60 or so lap in the game F1 by Psygnosis with a generic 4 button digital gamepad, sore thumb afterwards.
