Software on a Mac

I'm thinking of purchasing an Apple iBook but i've always been a PC freak and know next to nothing about the mac. Can i run the same games on a mac? For example, I have diablo 2 for my PC. Can it also be installed on my iBook? or do i have to use a windows emulator like Virtual PC or something else to get the job done? Thanx for ur assitance.

well, some software has both the mac and pc version on the disc but, most games dont even have a mac version and if they do come out, it is usually months after the pc version

so your best bet would be either to get a pc laptop or look into the windows emulators. i cant givey ou any info on how those work since i never used one

I've run VPC on a TiBook and it works fairly well. I'm sorry to say, however, that DirectX performance isn't really fantastic. Though they may have changed it since the version I used, it used to emulate the S3 chipset which, as you may be aware, doesn't work all that well under Windows, much less via emulation.

So, in short, it'll most likely run, albeit slowly.

I would suggest you settle for a PC notebook. They're up to 1 Ghz in speed now and recent models are equipped with a GeForce 2 Go GPU which, for the first time, allows labtops to run 3D games with decent frame rates.

ooh..crap.. so u all agree that a PC notebook would be a wiser choice? I was thinking of getting an iBook b'coz most people use the mac for business and hence i wanted to familiarize myself with the mac environment. Moreover, mac's OS X looks sweeet.. Games are actually not a priority on my iBook but i must admit the idea of having a geforce 2 video chip (even a geforce2 Go) on my notebook is kinda enticing. I'm in a total dilema now and would appreciate if you all could help. iBook or PC notebook? Help me please? =) thanx.

Have you tried playing FPS game in a one button mouse ? you can if you got a mac.it sukzs.
