in here , i'll discuss a strange theory .

it's about squaresoft trying to make Final fantasy series a real series , i mean that they don't just share the name , but they have the same world , etc .

i'm just trying to know the timeline order .

well i think that square when ff2 with that name it was to make it popular , same goes for the rest of ff games .

till 3-5 years ago .... i think they have been trying since several ff games to prove that they r connected somehow .

it began slowly in ff6 , ff8 , but ff9 was completely foreshdowing for other ff in the past , like ff3 , ff4 , ff6 , ff7 .

during one of the threads before , i talked about it , and one of the members told me that this is a fan service !!!

i don't think it's a fan service , ff9 didn't need that fan thing .
u can call ehrgeiz or chocobo racing/dungeon , fan games .
and giving the gunblade to aya brea in Parasite eve 2 was a fan service too .
but they won't corrupt ff games just to add some small clues here or there , just to make some one says "wow , that's une's mirror which have the name of the magician in ff3"

well , i saw a banner of aeris in cg about ff7 : AC , and that's cool , but when i see the same banner with same colours , BG and every thing except the character (which was Yuna) i should say that there something there.
square is going to say something in that movie .

even the old ff movie (spirits with in) had the same idea of the planet alive thing in ff7 and the ending scene had the same touch too in both .

i have other things to say , but i really can't prove anything as long as square doesn't say it .

do u think i'm right , wrong or can any one give me some proofs , etc ?

thx for reading

I've been thinking the same subject too. You are maybe right and I've heard some rumours too about connections between Final Fantasies, for example:

In FFV, there's a guy named Leonhart, like in FFVIII and some people have thought that Tidus is Squall's grandson, so FF-series is a kind of story about Leonhart family?!

There are also conflicts: For example many summon monsters have different background in different Final Fantasies and it's really strange that Zidane remembers Cloud in FFIX, even Cloud haven't born yet.

Now Kingdom Hearts has connected Final Fantasy with Disney world and Cloud and Squall is in same story, even Squall lives in far future and Cloud is character of 2000.

I have found LOTR references from Final Fantasy: Vivi and other black mages in earlier FF's have same kind of clothes than Tom Bombadil in LOTR! Also a word "mythril" comes from LOTR, but maybe they are just references, nothing more.

Well, the truth about Final Fantasy connections may come out, when the last part of Final Fantasy come out (just before H. Sakaguchi reach retirement age?)

Anyway, let's see, what others find out.

Yeah, FFs are now connected to each others, as an exemple, Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, and Final Fantasy XII are all taking place in the same world, Ivalice.

I think its all fan service..the connections are not all that well tought of, I did hear that final fantasy VIII takes place 500 years after VII but I never really played the game the whole way thru, I just think that they're just little things to keep the Fans from saying that Fainal Fantasy is falling too far from its roots

Hmm, having played FF8 quite a number of times, I never encountered any hint about it happening 500 years after FF7

I see it as fan service. A few of the games do have connections. FFT and FFTA do take place in the same named world. Yet, not in the same world. It's like the Wild Arms series. They don't truely connect to each other. Originaly, it was just hints and similar ideas to gives fan a heartfelt touch. Now, ther creators are going back redoing the first game, and seem to be trying to link the series.

I see Final Fantasy like the Breath of Fire series. It uses basic concpets and names. To make us the player feel more aligned or more involved with the charcters. Unless the creators of FF say otherwise, I think it's fan service.

the only hint about the connection between ff8 , ff7 is that the ancients were called cetra in ff7 and in ff8 u can see that Odin lives in the centra ruins , the only living marks of ancients ! (it's just one different letter "N" )

i know many things about these connections , but i didn't hear that ff8 was after ff7 by 500 years , while i think ff7 is ffx sequel , btw kingdom hearts isn't considered as one of final fantasy , as it's just a fun fact as squall and yuffie can't make a team together .
