Ok, Christmas is coming, and the usual norm around here for most of the people I know, is that if you spend your money on someone, it should be your mother. So, what gifts have you given to your mother's/girlfriends etc... that really put you in the good books, and didnt make you seem cheap.
I ask my mom every year what she wants, and she dosnt come up with anything. Last year I was golden with some expensive pj's.
So what present got you in the good books? Im sure we could all help each other out a little bit. *cough* ladies on the board *cough*

bah.... i have no gf, and my mom is nuts.... she does not want anything.... she only gets new stuff because she needs it, not because she wants it..... *sigh* some people will never learn...

well this may sound really dumb, but im getting my girlfriend a small (sort of) cheap ring. she's always wanted a ring, and if i find a simple one with a star on it (her favorite) it will be very cheap and she will be happy! :D

I never give gifts to anyone. Gifts are just another convention of modern society - and I'm not willing to spend my money on such ancient rituals :p
Well, maybe if I had a GF I would buy something for her. A book, most probably (ever heard of "Nanosystems", by Eric Drexler? It's a killer).
Now that I think about it, perhaps it's a good thing that I have no GF ;)

like boltzmann, i'm a non-gift giving person, but maybe i would if i had a girlfriend... but only if she insisted. the only gifts i buy are for myself, and even then i'm cheap.

Well... want my solution? Something you make for yourself. Either some little handicraft, or something she had wanted you to do for a while and will cost you some sacrifice.IMO thats loads better than spending your money on some capitalistic shop :p

Give your mom a copy of James Joyce's "Finnegans Wake" - she will love it ;)
Or do it the cheap way. Give her a big hug and tell her that gifts don't mean anything - it's the feelings that count :)

Well, frankly ive been doing that the first 13 years of my life. I think its time to spend some of my hard earned money on someone really special instead of myself.

well you have to find the ONE thing she's really sensitive about. for example, my girlfriend and rings....she REALLLLLY wants one, getting one from me is like the key to her heart, and thats why im getting her one ;)

I have racked a lot of bills this past fall (broken cars) and cannot afford things evan for myself let alone for christmas presents, but most moms like books, blankets or maybe a pillow. just a few suggestions...cheesy but, still...

Well I asked my dad today, and I decided on an oprah book club book, and her favorite movie "The Sound of Music", on dvd if I can find it.
