list of hacked firmware

ok well i read the sticky up top and i guess i need to get hacked firmware for my dvd drive....

a few questions:

1. is hacked firmware legal?
2. will it damage my hardware?

and the big one: 3. is there a list of hacked firmwares so i dont have to search all over google to find it?

i have a JLMS dvd-rom drive if it matters....
