theres another version of this where the great magician david copperfield holds a set of cards and he'll magically guess what you picked, anyone know the link for that?

It was close but it got my number wrong. My final number was 61 but it showed me the symbol for 60.

Nah, it guess all of my answers.
Pretty cool math flash.

Jesus Christ this is freaking me out! It gets me every single time. Thanks for the link :)

Sorry do "de-mistify" that but it's just math :P
Notice that the symbols change with each refresh, making only one symbol possible per round.

it doesnt work for me...
its alwayz wrong

It works like this if you wanna know

The formula for obtaining the 'magical' number in algebra terms goes like this 10a + b (the number you chose) minus a + b (the sum of the digits)
so we get 9a, which is always a multiple of nine. If you check every multiple of 9 have the same symbol

exactly protoman

It's ingenious, at least. Good to catch unaware people :)

to those who are getting wrong answers use a calculator

instead of using complicated algebra and tryin to be a smartass .. ill explain it easily:

whatever #63's sign is .. thats what the orb will show.

nice psychic ?

whatever #63's sign is .. thats what the orb will show.

*cough* multiples of 9 *cough*

difficult algebra? its just a damn linear equation...

zanel
August 11th, 2003, 03:43
there are some numbers not being the multiple of 9 and still have the sign .. so stop coughin

Proto

They are just coincidence caused by the random fillup of the squares.

If you don't believe me then show me a number that, after being applied the operations that the page tells you, doesn't result in a multiple of 9

Boltzmann

ProtoMan is correct. Just check all the multiples of 9 and you'll see that they have the same symbol.
All other instances of this symbol are merely coincidences.

BTW, it's quite obvious and there's no difficult math involved, as some people are trying to imply.

Whoa...this is crazy...100% accuracy...

SnakeBite

omfg! it works! this can't be right...

[edit] yeah, it seems all the numbers you get are multiplies of 9.. but they have different symbols, and it gets right every time, but why??

SnakeBite
August 11th, 2003, 13:18
heh... now I got how this works... EVERY number divisible by 9 has the same symbol. and the symbols changes every time you click the 'try again' button, but still, all the symbols beside the numbers divisible by 9 is the same. I tried using the same number, and got a different symbol.

DarkAurora

Woah, I did it again and it got mine right. Freaky. oO

Edit: I did it again two more times and it still got mine right both times. I don't understand how it keeps guessing the right symbol.

DarkAurora just look at the numbers
9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72 and 81
they all got the same symbol and it's always exactly THAT symbol that is shown in the crystal ball... now let's say you take:

10: 1+0 = 1
10-1 = 9 !

11: 1+1 = 2
11-2 = 9!

12: 1+2 = 3
12-3 = 9!

doesn't matter wich number you take it will always be a mupltiple of 9

20: 2+0 = 2
20-2 = 18!

21: 2+1 = 3
21-3 = 18!

and so on... hope you got it now ^^

I got 72. SAnd it said 20! LOL. Uh I think its all just luck ... :p

edit: OMG! I forgot to concentrate. And when I did it got the answer ever time! :p

its all algebra... just represent the operation they give you as a linear equation and youll find it -_-

Noty really... It's based on a really old mathematical curiosity. I have several kiddie magic books capitalizing on that trick for card prediction.

I didn't notice that the symbols changed every time. Now I understand how it always gets your prediction right.
