View Full Version : Is there any way to use a PSX light gun on the PC
August 17th, 2001, 05:50
I have made the Direct Pad Pro thing
and even got PSX to USB thing
I even have TV-OUT for my computer
Will it work on them
I want to use some thing like the Gun Con or Bio Gun
on the pc
I just dont have the gun yet
The PSX guns can be found for $20 and look good
verse getting the stupid looking Act labs guns for $80
Or the sega PC gun for $50 that may or may not work for any
August 17th, 2001, 13:40
the act labs gun doesn't support much games, but it could get more support in the future..it works great on die hard trilogy 2 for the pc (similar to virtua cop and time crisis) though
..the sega pc gun..it's not available over here...I would get one if I saw one.
psx guns are not supported afaik....

The sad thing Is that if the ACT labs guns looked better
There might be a remote chance I would get them
Thay look verry --I cant say--
If the army used them It would be a dont ask dont tell thing
I can just see my friends laughing at me now
I want a gun that looks like it might realy kill some thing
I have ordered the sega gun from a store in the usa
I dont think Sega made it but it has two Sega PC games with it
House of the dead 2,Virtua Squad 2 And it to looks a little dumb
But not as bad a the ACT Labs guns
I will just have to see if it sucks or even works
August 17th, 2001, 18:46
ok, I'll admit. I bought a hairdryer that I can aim at the screen ;)
...but at least it works, even though that's only on one or two games...
I just hope support will increase....hairdryer or not, what's inside is pretty good (and accurate!)
August 17th, 2001, 20:05
I think that the sega gun I ordered is a -knock off-
or made by some Hong Kong place
Maby it was to be the -knock off- of the real sega gun
that never came out - I don't know
I know it has a black box and plugs into the mouse and
I thing that because it plugs into the mouse port and
it has sega shooter games with it, that it must act
like a mouse and if it does then I think it will work
on other games
Or I might have wasted $50 on junk
August 18th, 2001, 00:21
well, that's what I thought the actlabs gun might do to..afterall it has a mouse emulation driver....but, it doesnt get any more inaccurate than that...so in order to use the actlabs hairdryer ;) properly it needs to be really supported...like i said, die hard trilogy 2 is actually the only real kickass game i have for it but it kinda saved the gun for me. It's very cool, even with only one game (maybe it helps that I only had duck hunt with my nes zapper ;)). Some more support wouldnt hurt though.
August 18th, 2001, 01:16
When I get it I will post picks of it
and tell how it works
UPS sucks were I live It may take 2 weeks
but with the regular mail it only takes 3-4 days
But thay only had UPS shipping
Here is a pic from the web site were I found it

You can in japan get HOTD2 with a cool looking gun for the PC
You Know why you cant get it over here -- Lots of BS------
there afraid of getting BOYCOTTED and taking heat from
gun control groups
Thats real sad when a crazed fanatic group of a-holes
can control you life
-------I will be nice and no go on a rant ----------------------
Does any one know were to get the japan Ver with the gun?
I also have ben told that the First HOTD came with a gun
August 19th, 2001, 23:36
Here Is some info I found At web site
IOData of Japan have made an interface to allow the use of the
original Sega Saturn gun with House of the Dead 2 on the PC.
They have released this with their own PCI card, a black
Virtua Gun (lucky fools!) and the game itself in a special
pack for 8,500 yen (about £48). See below for pics from their
Thats what a pc gun should look like
I may, If the gun I get sucks, get the IF-SEGA2 gun
August 19th, 2001, 23:41
why do you think the act-labs one looks like a hairdryer? They want to stay out of trouble....
August 19th, 2001, 23:43
AFAIK, light guns do not work w/ePSXe at this time. In the future that may change. We'll just have to wait and see.
August 19th, 2001, 23:52
you're right about that....if there's any gun that will be supported in the future I think the act-labs gun would be a likely choice, because there's a developer kit available for it.
August 20th, 2001, 03:03
I hope the gun will ack like a mouse
and that way if an emulator or game uses
a mouse for the shooting it will work
I will just have to wait
The wait is killing me
August 20th, 2001, 05:35
again, all they have to do to epsxe is implement the pad plugin... i think.
the psemu pro pad plugin has support for guncon, but i dont know how it works... i cant find much document explaining the pad plugin :(
btw, does time crisis work for any emus that support the pad plugin?
i'm also waiting for your news, will1384. i knew about the gun you ordered, but really didnt have usd$50 + shipping just for experiment. i have virtual squad and die hard trilogy 2 (the gun comes with vsquad2 and hotd) so i wonder if it'll work for my games and hotd2 as well.
August 20th, 2001, 08:05
well, afaik only the act-labs gun works with die hard trilogy 2.......
the act-labs also has a mouse driver, but it's an unofficial one, and with a reason: it's highly inaccurate :(
August 22nd, 2001, 06:13
But look at this ACT Labs gun for the PSX
It looks like the PC gun I ordered
I wonder ????
Here the pic from the act labs web site
It might be just be a well used plastic shell
or ACT labs might have made both
August 22nd, 2001, 08:21
hmmm.....yep, that looks VERY similar. ....makes you wonder, I mean...the act-labs hairdryer doesn;t have (proper) support for virtua cop....only with a mouse driver, but it's inaccurate...
so perhaps your gun would have a mouse driver as well....if this is the case, let's hope it will be accurate!
August 22nd, 2001, 08:30
I've got this one, the single act-labs gun (SGA)
while Die Hard Trilogy 2 works like a charm, I was a bit annoyed with top shot....it isn't correctly playable (you can't scroll to see all targets, which makes it hard to get good scores and some targets are so tiny (a few pixels) that it's virtually impossible to hit them with the gun),allthough it's listed as officially supported and even shipped with the gun. Die Hard Trilogy 2 demo was shipped with the gun as well, after playing that I immediately got the full version :)
A third game that was shipped with my gun was Critical Mass Demo....while it's supported correctly and works good it's just dull.
And because the unsupported, unofficial and beta (actually alpha)mouse driver is so crappy that only leaves the die hard game for now....one game is not much, but at least it's a very good one, a "gun-saver" ;) :)
....but I'm hoping for more support in the future...if there's anything the gun would be good at, it's at psx shooters like time crisis or point blank. So I just hope one of the epsxe authors is a lightgun-addict ;)
August 23rd, 2001, 01:27
yep, technically, it is definitely possible to emulate the GunCon with the Act-labs gun perfectly in psx emulators. just need someone to do it...
my copy of Die Hard Trilogy 2 was bought from EB for cdn$5! and it comes with a usd$5 rebate coupon for online ordering the SGA!
if that psx emu support is realized, i would probably order the SGA.
but it seems that epsxe will not have a new release for quite some time. that's why i'm asking again, does Time Crisis work with anything other than ePSXe? psemu pro, adripsx, fpse, anything? if it does i'll buy the game and fiddle with it...
August 24th, 2001, 01:23
I can shoot in paint brush ---- And it needs no driver
It bad as hell -- the accuracy is a 8 out of 10
it has auto reload and the gun feels good in your hand
even has a start button
It hardware only, the little black box is the brains
I will post pics of the gun
August 24th, 2001, 01:27
Here is more pics
August 24th, 2001, 01:34
Here is some more again
I would rate this gun 9 out of 10
But I have never had any other gun for the PC
but the fact that It works just like a mouse
and -NO DRIVER TO INSTALL- its just bad ass
It takes time to plug the cable in but thats it
Its made by a corp called TECH-NI-COMM
------It works with no driver, and just like a mouse-----------
I can shoot the windows desktop and ICONS
August 24th, 2001, 01:45
It would work on any PC desktop with a
mouse,vga monitor,game port
THE black box plugs into the mouse port, game port,VGA OUT,
The mouse then plugs into the black box as does the gun
Were the black box connects to the video card, it has a spliter
so that the monitor can also be conneced up
I think the game port is for power
August 24th, 2001, 02:36
Ok there is two or three bad things
The red cross hairs in games just sits there untill
you shoot and then it jumps to were you shoot
and if you fire more than 2-3 shots per second it may
loose track and not fire the extra shots
The screen does flash when you fire but you can still see
every thing and it dont flash that bright
But thats the only bad thing I have found
August 24th, 2001, 02:52
And the games are
(1) Virtua Cop 2 PC
(2) The House Of The Dead 1 PC
The gun fits my big hand just rite
and its thick hard plastic
the trigger clicks and is easy to pull
and nothing gets in the way of the trigger
It a nice feeling gun
If you have little kids keep the gun put up
because you can use it like a mouse on the desktop
and they may play with it and run programs or
delete something - no telling
I am now giong to look for mouse shooting games for the
(1) Virtua Cop 2 PC
(2) The House Of The Dead 1 PC
(3) The House Of The Dead 2 PC
I want to find more games to use my gun on
August 24th, 2001, 07:45
hmm..that sounds pretty good! What about the overall accuracy in the games?
August 24th, 2001, 08:04
In games it seams to have a little less accuracy than
a mouse - But the gun is faster to aim but slower to shoot
It makes it play about the same
And like I said the cross hair is useless
I know its silly but I went into windows paint and made
a target and then shot it with the gun
The first two shots were to find out were I was, there
the ones out of the center, I was 3 feet from the screen
I will say that the real dreamcast Gun has a lot beter
accuracy on HOTD2 than this gun has on the pc ver of HOTD2
You can hit a 1 inch square every time or even a icon
but any smaller and its to hard
August 24th, 2001, 08:20
I think I found a weakness ,
If the game flashes on its own
the gun might become confused
but only if its the whole screen
The gun makes the screen flash to find its place on
the screen, so if the game flashes the screen the
gun does not understand
I will say that at each Screen REZ the gun must be
collaborated, but the gun saves the last 3 calibrations
But its not that hard to do takes about 10 seconds
And seams to stay in the guns memory even after the
computer is off
August 24th, 2001, 08:24
I forgot to add, the that
The target Image was not resized
And the dreamcast gun I talked about was
the real gun sega made and sold with HOTD2
August 24th, 2001, 10:15
it doesn't look bad though.....where did you order it (the pc gun)?
..and in any case it's more accurate than the mouse emulation driver of the act labs gun.
The accuracy of the act labs gun in die hard trilogy 2 is great, but, like I said before, that's only one game....
August 24th, 2001, 17:53
Its not perfect but It works and you get used to
not having the cross hairs help you
I think that the ACT labs gun may be a little
more accurate but the PC Auto Mag gun works with
any thing a mouse will and needs no driver
Also you can look up "PC AUTO MAG GUN" or
"PC AUTOMAG GUN"
I wonder why they keep it so hidden ?
August 25th, 2001, 05:36
great. sounds like a good alternative to the actlabs guns, because as samor said his gun is not very good for mouse emulation.
oh great... now i have another toy to save up for :)
Thanks, will1384. and you could also try Virtual Squad (the first one), Die Hard Trilogy and DHT2.
check out the Act-labs site, they list all the games that support their gun, and chances are all those games support the mouse too.
and yeah, i did try to find the PC Automag elsewhere (a while ago, when i first heard about it) and seems like fivestaradvantage is the only store that carries it...
August 25th, 2001, 05:51
one question: what happens to your real mouse... i mean, can you switch between them easily, or do they work at the same time??
August 25th, 2001, 06:15
hmm...seems I can't even order it from there!
August 25th, 2001, 06:47
You mouse Is pluged in at the same time and only when you
pull the trigger does the gun take over
I just looked at what you said about not being able to order
Your rite no orders outside of the USA
You might try a ReMailing service in the USA,
You place a order, they send it to the remailer,
remailer sends it to you
I have never used any of these remail services
you will have to find a one you trust
August 25th, 2001, 06:58
no? well i live in Canada so i'm ok
but it says:
Orders from outside of the United States and Canada will not be accepted via the internet at this time. To place an international order please e-mail your order to firstname.lastname@example.org or call 661-294-0074.
so i guess you can still order by email or phone?
where do you live anyways, Samor?
btw, i see you got your own status finally. and what does that mean?
August 25th, 2001, 08:37
i live in holland...and I'm pretty sure that gun was never released over here :/
then again, the act-labs wasn't either, but a store nearby imported it.
MSX is an old homecomputer...and it's great :)
August 25th, 2001, 08:38
..but maybe I can get it anyways...i'll send them an e-mail.
