I'm not sure if someone's posted this already...
So I'm sure a good number of you remember that clip of the boy bouncing around a room with a "light saber" trying to work on some star wars moves that was recorded on his school's camara and posted on the web. And then you'll probably remember the edited clip some people made that puts in a light saber and some appropriate sound effects. Well, the kid (whose name is Ghyslain Raza, oh my) ended up in an adolescent psych ward as a result of his, err, new fame and now his parents are suing the families of the kids who posted the original video (there's also an incriminating online convo btw. some of the kids where they seem pretty cold about what they did...it's being used to paint the kids as cruel and mean). They're suing for a quarter of a million dollars. The story's here - http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20030723.gtuboyyn/BNStory/Technology/?query=star+wars+kid/ My opinion is that I felt sorry for the kid when I first saw the clip, though it's definitely funny with the sound effects and all. Is that worth a quarter of a million? I don't know... I'm actually just not sure whether suing is the right course of action...I'm not sure they did anything illegal perse. So what's your opinion? Did you think posting the video online was mean or funny? Do you think a quarter million is too little or too much to ask?
