ok i looked everywhere and can't find out how to fix this. I don't know why, but ff8 is going mondo slow. With my pc specs it should be going faster. It was going lots faster b4. I don't know what I did but it is going way to slow now. Here are my configs. Oh and it takes FOREVER to load past the squaresoft logo. and fmvs are VERY VERY SLOW.

Use frameskipping.
Valcrist
July 23rd, 2003, 08:48
that didn't help at all
just made it run really glitchy and the fmvs were still SLOW
Xeven
July 23rd, 2003, 09:44
are you sure you're running with "translator" mode?
Valcrist
July 23rd, 2003, 18:21
if i knew what that was....i'll go check
Valcrist
July 23rd, 2003, 18:29
nope both modes give me around 9 fps
btw i'm getting the same speed in epsxe
edit:
peops soft gives me 60 fps almost but it is still very choppy.
I'm also getting the same results w/other games!

Try lowering the res, disable screen smoothing and use 4xAA instead.

July 23rd, 2003, 21:53
nope didn't help at all i think i got like maybe a whole 2~3 more fps
this is only happening in my playstation emulators, but it is happening in all of them. epsxe, psxeven. Ok so there are only two... still. I don't know why this is happening. It worked fine b4?

If you are running from CD, try making cd image. My 700mhz machine runs faster than that :D
You should change the framebuffer access too. My card runs better when it's set to 1.
Valcrist
July 23rd, 2003, 23:01
ok i'll try that, as i said b4, it ran tones better b4, i don't know what happned. And i always use iso's.
Valcrist
July 23rd, 2003, 23:03
nope didn't help
edit:
Ok i re-downloaded everything. I'm still getting uber slow speeds.....this is really not cool. It's doing it will all of my games. Do you think that it maybe my video drivers? They are the latest so..... any ideas yet? Xeven? anybody?
Andrew Hruska
July 23rd, 2003, 23:53
Hmm, that's really fishy. Have you tried no AA? D3D drivers? Are you sure you have Catalyst 3.6 drivers? Try DNA ATI drivers from www.guru3d.com . Also, make sure you have nothing running in the background. My antivirus scanner was messing up my games.
You really only need the ATI drivers and the volume control.
Edit: i noticed we reached 50 posts too :onthepull
Valcrist
July 23rd, 2003, 23:57
i'll try the dna drivers and get back to ya
nope didn't help any...i didn't have anything running in the backround cept for the ati thing....not even a volum control.

EDIT***
Ok well I"m going to church, hopefully someone will know what to do by the time I get back. About 2~3 hours from now if I get something to eat and stuff.

Valcrist
July 24th, 2003, 06:05

July 24th, 2003, 06:19
try turning off that last game fix, FB software or w/e it's called, sometimes i find it to slow down my games (but i have a weird ATI video chipset)

July 24th, 2003, 06:19
- Framebuffer texture: 0
- Framebuffer access: 4
try changing to this
Valcrist
July 24th, 2003, 06:19
its showing like 42 fps in the fmvs but it stutters and misses tones of frames when i have frame skipping on, but is going as slow as if i didn't have it on, kinda hard to explain
Valcrist
July 24th, 2003, 06:22
nope didn't help, the sound is stuttering like a broken record though
Andrew Hruska
July 24th, 2003, 06:23
This is truley strange because FF8 runs full or close to full speed on my computer with PSXeven or ePSXe..
Edit: :offtopic: this feels like a chat room sorta...
Valcrist
July 24th, 2003, 06:26

edit: can i have your video card? :P :D
Valcrist
July 24th, 2003, 06:35

correction: other games work, not psx games

Just one thing, the fake sub blending is not needed anymore on ati's cards, and can mess your graphics. Cannot help you much more, cause PSXeven just crashes for me with that game.
Edit: Forget it, i had peops configured to use the sbi file of FFIX, and so it crashed. It works fine, in fact faster than ePSXe for me.

As my card is very similar to yours, might work for you ;)
Sound: Eternal 1.41
Directsound|40 // Spuasync|smooth // Reverb: Neill's // Update before accesing register. Everything else, disabled.
Peops cd-r plugin 1.4:
Interface: W2K/XP IOCTL scsi commands
Drive: you choose.
Mode: autodetect it.
Caching: Thread.
Use aditional 4 mb data cache.
Retry on read error-5.
Everything else disabled.
BTW, i was using an iso mounted in a virtual drive trough alcohol 120% virtual drive. Used also 'use iso' on psxeven, but it gave me a few less fps, don't know why. Used bios 7502, and translator mode.
Try and see if it helps, and if not, the problem must lie in another thing.

Man, that really sucks.. you can't overclock a 9500 that well, eh? Oh, and i can OVERCLOCK MY ONBOARD VIDEO!
I found a bios setting to change the clock rates for it.
