I think this new forum is pretty cool! Anyhow, what do you guys think of the compatibility state of VGS? I think it's the best, compared to bleem! (which totally sucks, BTW) and ePSXE (which is slowly rising to become one of the best PSX emu's, in my opinion). I wish they would update VGS more, though. It's a very cool application, with no sound-defects at all (great engineering-skills, I say) and very good software rendering. Anyhow, I'll end my rant here.

Agreed ... VGS' compatibility is unbeatable at the moment, though I still rarely use it since it's software - and my PSX does that even better than VGS
And I'm not sure how the future of VGS will look now that Sony bought it :( I somehow personally doubt that they will continue it.

vgs is dead. sony might continue it in some other form, but i think it is dead as we know it. maybe it will get ported over to a console or something.

Well, even though with D3D support, I doubt that VGS' compatibility would lower itself. Why do I say this? Well, because I think that with Sony backing their way (well, Sony did buy VGS) and with Connectix's superb platform-crossing skills, I don't think that upping the graphical quality of VGS will be a problem. Try checking out Connectix's website, and read the history of their company. You'll see how they managed to do all sorts of cool stuff for the Mac and PC. I think they may be able to include D3D support, though. We'll just have to wait and find out in the months to come, which will the best emulator. ePSXe? VGS? And who knows, maybe even adriPSX?

Of course they may be able ... when you have enough programmers with enough time, it's certainly possible to make an emu with VGS' compatibility and D3D support - but I doubt they would be able to keep the system requirements, one of the biggest pluses for VGS, that low with D3D added, so keeping in the software modus would be required as well.
But still, I personally somehow doubt Sony bought VGS to continue it :(

bobbi > on a TV (tv-out) VGS looks quite the same as psx...except for some games (alternate resolutions being cropped instead of stretched)....on a pc it looks kinda pixelated, but the blur that nvidia cards have, help.
....ePSXe looks "slightly" better though :)

There will not be D3D support for VGS... Never! the sony is a big bad money based company... the emulators eat's their profit... nintendo does the same thing... ( www.z64station.org buu buu :( )

How exactly do emulators eat their profits?

Emu' just eat their machine selling profits!!!
As is for games, maybe they help selling some more, couse some people would buy an original game to play in their emulator:yawn:
if it worked well in their system and emu, of course!! ;)
or just copy it, but that's illegal!!

companies dont make any money on consoles. most actually lose money. thats basically why sega stopped production on dc hardware..

Yes the compatibility of vgs is the best...once epsxe can't play a game, then switching to vgs may be the best solution...and once vgs can play a game it seem that the game will play smoothly without sound problem( i wonder why the sound in vgs is good)...i think just make the graphic i little bit smooth is ok for vgs...no need 3d lah...

bgnome, u r saying that companies don't make profit out of consoles, and u give the example of sega, but i cannot agree with u!!
i think sony had a lot of profit with their playstation and now with their very expensive  PS2!!!
if it did not they wouldn't launch a new console, don't u think??

dude, look around. sony LOSES money when they sell a ps2! have you read any of the documents at all? :eyes:
they make tons of money off of liscensing and they get a chunk of every game sold. if they didnt launch a new system then they couldnt compete and theyre game sales would be beaten.
