Actually, I think DragonSoull is looking for emulators that he can use on his ps2 (e.g. an emulator emulating an snes on the ps2). There are several such emulators and the can be found at Zophar's Domain (http://www.zophar.net/consoles/ps2.html).

lol, some do think i an one (idiot) and yes i'm looking for emulators that run on the REAL PS2 the one sony sell's :D
EDIT: any mame port? theres nothing on mame's port list.

nope no mame ports

Real shame :(, the Metal Slug & Last Blade series would kill on the PS2 :p
But I wonder why,
is the hardware unable to run mame at a decent speed?
is PS2dev too hard or requires the dev version of the ps2?
or is there simply no one interested in it?
Asking because sometimes I’m just curious about stuff

Theres a sega genesis, snes and nes emulator that can run those games on your ps2. :)

SNES-Station does a fairly good job of running SNES games on the PS2, however it runs really slow unless you disable the sound.

Thanks for all your help people :)

Why would an snes run slower on a ps2 ? its ten times faster then the SNES was .. this is prolly a very stupid question but shows you im no developer or something .
Carnage
June 24th, 2003, 21:02
dont know either...but it does make sense that it runs way faster when you turn the sound off..

you loose speed through emulation.
Carnage
June 24th, 2003, 21:04
but that really is alot of loss...

yer but think about it you can loose just that much. Think about PS2 emulation on the PC.
Carnage
June 24th, 2003, 21:08
so you need a pc wich is 10x faster then a PS2 ???oh crap...
chaosblade

dunno , it makes sense for the PC<->PS2 since things picked up their development rate , but a PS2 not able to emulate an SNES with full speed ? thats .. sad .

I guess SNES-Station just isn't all that optimized.. PS2 has the power to run SNES fullspeed no problem, but I'm guessing we're looking at something that's largely a cut and dry SNES9x port... probably using compilers that aren't very optimized too.

That's all the current version of SNES-Station is - a Snes9x port, and Snes9x isn't very optimized to begin with. The SNES Station team recently updated their site though saying that work on the project has resumed so who knows, maybe they'll optimize the code for PS2.

what they have to do is find out ways to use ps2's software and hardware in unison. that would speed it up i bet. ;)

Btw , ive seen some MAME ports for the xbox . i dont think they are offical though , check www.xbins.org - its a news site for XBOX releases .. MAME appers there .

IMHO sound emulation is a real b!tch most of the PSX games I play have the crackled and in my old P2 350Mhz system I would get 30FPS (PAL games) with sound and full speed with out it. So I guess it just the same old problem :(
EDIT: Dam I hate censure :cuss2:. What happened to freedom of speech?
Razor Blade
June 28th, 2003, 03:14
Well as you know its not allowed everywhere. And freedom of speech .. if you ask me doesnt exist anymore ... But lets save that for another topic. shall we? :p

June 28th, 2003, 03:18
ok :frown:, it's just that censure makes me so ...
you know...

Well it always helps to get the emulation right too lol, as emus get better they get better on what their being played on, simple enuf.
take the GBA emus, they got better VERY FAST and thus, can now go VERY FAST, its all a matter of doing the job perfect. easier said than done.

The Emulator creates lag on a PC, but when you take that emulator and port it to something else, it creates even more lag.
DragonSoull

ROMstein I don't think that would be the case if the port was done right, actually I would assume that the ps2 port would be faster if properly optimized since the hardware is always the same.

could it be they maded so that the ps2 would first emulator a part of a pc, then running snes emulation on top of it? :) that could make it slow!
