I don't think that anyine knows. Just keep checking in every month and something will be released soon, I am pretty sure that the team is still alive to some degree. You might want to check out
1964emu.emulation64.com
for the latest updates straight from the team (there isn't anything new right now, but keep checking in with them)

Well, Schibo has promised to release the new version 5 may, but it wasn't completed, but he said that he will release it soon. Don't worry!

Didnt they state once that the new version of 1964 will be the final one? I am pretty sure i read something like that on emutalk

Yes Schibo said it will be the final one, but don't forget: an open-source emulator is never discontinued!

:)
Well, a new 1964 release wil be greatly appreciated. The emulator has almost met PJ compatibility-wise at this point, and offers faster speed with *some* games. I certainly hope that the authors release the source of the 'final' version - that way a new team can pick up where it left off if they feel the drive to do so.
Just something neat: I had a couple of friends over today and we spent about an hour playing smash bros. on the computer (Adaptoid as player 1, Keyboard as player 2):) N64 emulation sure as come along :)

Since they obviosusly decided not to release the final version on Cinco de Mayo, 5th of May, this year they are probaly ironing out the bugs and making in a stabil and complete release so that they can leave it as intended instead of as if. By the looks of it, and how good prior releases have been I can't see this release being anything else but stunning.
And what's still uncertain is if Rice will continue his GPU plugin which has made giant leaps over the last months. If the last and final release of 1964 should sport a fast, error free and accurate core with high compatibility the combination of 1964 and Rice graphics could be a complete solution for N64 emulation.

A bit off topic but am I the only one who feels that playstation is much more refined then n64 emulation? I think it is myself from playing much of both.

Yep, N64 emulation is less advanced than PSX emulation in many ways (Mainly because PSX emus uses LLE for graphics and not HLE like current N64 emulation?) In N64 emulation, you get more graphical glitches and you have to switch plugins a lot for the best experience. I've only played a few PSX games on ePSXe (as I never owned a PSX) and there are no real problems to do with the graphics. The system requirements are also much greater (if you want to use PJ64 anyway)

I am pretty sure that you'r eright [Clements] - most PSX emulators use faster LLE - whilst N64 emulators use slower and exacting HLE. I have no idea why this needs to be done that way - but I suspect that the N64 uses more complicated commands that are very hard to 'patchwork-quilt' (essentially what LLE does - skip some commands and replace others with homemade stuff) and must be emulated to the "letter" if you will.
PSX I guess is simpler.
