I'm only 0 seconds into Dreamcast emulation, so I don't know anything about it. However, I would like to know what good games that can be run on an DC emulators (?, ?, ?) out there. Also, can u pls suggest the HOTtest emu+plugin for DC. Thanx :)

OK-OK

No emulator is out yet to play dc games, just get one for 50$ like i did.

Even if its out, with your pc, you might get 0.5 fps if youre lucky.

Cyrus' 2.2GHz Intel gets 14FPS. That give you a good idea of what's goin on?
Icarus will not be released until the speed has been drasticly improved.

Less on others games, more on a v.few ;)

I've got another question, which one is more powerful, PS1 or DC?

navlink: dont you mean ps2? :)

Dreamcast is a nex-gen console which has many games rivalling a lot of ps2 games. It has more video ram than a ps2 and supports sensible gfx features like anti-aliasing and such - there are various comparisons around for the 2 systems. (check google)

The ps2 is accepted to have somewhat higher potential in pushing polys but it is harder for dev'rs to program for than the dreamcast... check out a game like shenmue on the dc.. its pretty cool :)

sorry, i didn't know that DC is that d.a.m.n powerful than PS1, even comparable to PS2!!! well, where in field i lived on? so, it's impossible to see DC emulator in a few eons time, huh?

The DC was released in, what, ~2000? The PSX in ~1995 it stands to reason it's considerably more powerful. You can see some shot from the WIP DC emulator here: http://icarus.boob.co.uk/
There is still work to do, but it will come.

Navlink: Currently no sound and slowww.. games range from 10-15fps at best on ~2ghz in general but some go either side of that figure ;)

This is still with interpreter and a w.i.p dynarec with much optimization techniques yet to be done already makes a sega demo go from around 10fps to 20-30fps on my p3-850mhz..

Also the dreamcast can actually emulate a playstation, and unlike the flickering non-aliased 320x240 mess that ps1 on ps2 is, the dc makes the games run at 640x480 with FSAA :)

However Sony put a block to the emulator gaining much success, and they were only able to release 3 emulated games for the system - Gran Turismo 2, Metal Gear Solid, and Tekken 3 - before Sony truly killed them.

Here's some screeshots:

Cool...guess that means that games are gonna soon run pretty well on a 2ghz, right?

Like always:

Keep up the amazing work!

Some games perhaps... others certainly wont :)
Even with dynarec you may need near-4ghz for 60fps on Jet Set Radio.

Jet Set Radio's real speed is 30 fps actually ;)

Ya, i actually still own the bleemcast (software he's talking about) disc for Metal Gear solid and i remembered it looked sweet playing it on my DC. it's to bad sony shut them down cause i thought they had a good thing going and i'm sure they would of done much more games then just 3 if they were still in business.

why atre they allowed to have Bleem! still out and buyable?

I think one great stuff in the DC is the Texture Compression (dont know which standart) i mean Dead or Alive looked real cool on the DC on the PS2 the textures were just Pixel mess

But the screens already looks almost like the real DC
But does Icarus already use Hardware T&L or is it by Software Emulating?

It can't really use T&L since all transformations are done by the games themselves on the Dreamcast SH-4 CPU.

Ector: Well Naomi 2 has a seperate t&l chip that could be maybe hle'd but we know nothing about it whatsoever, and I dread even attempting Naomi 2 :)
(2 pvr2s alone are off-putting!)

yeah, yuck :(
any idea how they're sharing the work? doing half of of the screen each, or having one process tristrips into tiles, while the other one is rasterizing, or something else?
