here's some pics of the inside of my comp lol.
here's what the #'s mean
1: graphics card (gf4 mx420 pci)
2: us robotics v92 modem ($85 local retail)
3: generic usb card
4: 4 gb western digital hd (need...more...space...)
5: generic floppy drive
6 my cdrom drives (cendyne 48x12x50 cd-rw, 40x delta cdrom)
7: my 2 ISA slots that will never be used :p
to the right of those is my cpu
if i only had a agp slot too... :(

this is why i opened up my comp in the 1st place: to clean out the heat sink fins (i took off the fan 1st). the silver circle in the middle is the dead spot (or whatever its called) in the fan, and the dark area around it is the DUST (eww). and ive only had this hs in here since july or august 2002.

n_w95482
April 27th, 2003, 05:04
ya i kno its a crappy pic, but im not going to try to take another one ;) the gray things on the blades are the dust. :spy:

n_w95482
April 27th, 2003, 05:08
it was too hard to clean it with the hs clamped on the mboard, so i took it off. the white stuff on it is the plain thermal paste that came with the hs in a bag.

n_w95482
April 27th, 2003, 05:11
the cpu in the socket with the thermal stuff on it. btw its a amd k6-2 500 mhz procesor (super socket 7 mboard)

n_w95482
April 27th, 2003, 05:13
this is when i took the cpu out, so u can see how big it is and see a better pic of it.

n_w95482
April 27th, 2003, 05:15
this is how thin the cpu is, probably the same thickness as any other processor (i suck at takin pics:heh: )

n_w95482
April 27th, 2003, 05:20
this is the back of the processor with the pins. it doesnt have as many pins as a athlon or p4 cuz its a older/slower procesor.

I remember when I cleaned out my heatsink a few days ago. The good thing is that I lowered my temps by like 7c.

n_w95482
April 28th, 2003, 04:41
well, i did a virus scan and such on my comp to put it under load for a while, then i cheked the procesor temp. it used to run at 125 F (51.6 C) under load (according to bios), but it runs at about 123 F (50.5 C), so it HAS gone down a bit :D. the fan i have in my comp is a antec fan that i bought at my local staples for $12-14. it normally runs at 5700-6000 rpm.

Can someone tell me what this does...its on all my fans...i think its to control the fan speed but i cant turn it or anything

n_w95482
April 29th, 2003, 02:43
it either looks like a grounding wire (which i doubt) or it's a temp probe so the fan can adjust its speed to the amount of heat in the case.

in this pic, u can see the front of my case. its pretty plain, but i dont need anything fancy, so im just fine with it :D

edit: when i got the pic off my camera, i turned off the camera, which then rebooted my comp for no reason. about a second after i turned it off, the screen went black, the cdrom lights started flashing (it does that during startup) and it went thru POST. does anyone kno why it did that? it seems like almost every time i turn off my camera after dl'ing pics off of it, it screws up my comp in some way, either by locking up a prgram called msgrsv32 (somethin like that) or giving me BSOD's ARGH :mg:
i cant get the camera to take better pics also...

Here we have a pic of my makeshift northbridge/rear of GPU summer cooling sullution. A spare OEM AMD 6000RPM fan with a fried soundcard faceplate as a mounting bracket. I have a better HSF for it in the works, but this will do for now I spose. The duct you see is an old Pringles can and a paper bag to duct air onto the GF3. It's hella ugly but it works rather well.

I seriously need to get my box painted. You would think having a father that paints cars for a living I would have this done by now. I just cant part with it for long enough to do it I guess heh.

RF

Erm, is there any way I could attach an extra amd fan to my radeon900 heatsink with some glue or something. I dont think glue would work cause the heatsink of the radeon gets damn hot.

Cylinder
June 12th, 2003, 01:06
Acctualy, try some glue from a hot glue gun. The temps that a graphics card reaches are not hot enough to melt that. Plus, if you need it to come off later its pretty easy.

RF
June 12th, 2003, 01:29
I just tryed some super glue. It seems to work, I only put a very small amount on, so if it melts, it wont go very far, and it will fall vertically downward, away from anything else. Time to load up generals and see if it sticks. :) Thanks.

I finaly just went ahead and did it. I took off the panels and top so my old man could paint them today. They are '92 Subaru Electra Blue Metalic. Just some of the stuff he had left over from a recent job. I'll post some pics of them and fully reasembled tommorow sometime. For now here is what it looks like with my super crappy Logitech Express webcam. Try not to cringe to much, I know they look terrible.

Heh, note the shells ontop of the monitor, .357 Mag, 9mm, and a .22L infront of the dancing beer can.

OK all painted and reasembled. Took a few pics with a normal camera, but those wont be developed for a while, so some crappy webcam pics will have to do for now. God I hate this webcam... lol. It does the colour no justice at all. Oh yeah, the faceplates are not painted, since I couldn't care less really, and was to lazy to take apart the drives. This thing is crazy shiny now, and will be even more so when the paint cures up and hardens in a few weeks so I can polish it.

and 3 more shots. I'm sure you should notice that I am a perfectionist and therefore I've hidden all wires and lights as best as possible. Whatcha think? I know it's not a very modded case but that'll come with time. Ah wonderful 24-25C idle temps :D

1. off and futher shot.
2. on and a bit closer.
3. on and close up :D

and believe me Kirby, I care just as much about the health and "inside" of my computer as outside. Otherwise I wouldn't have it running at 25C idle average, and the four case fans, and lust for performance....9500pro mega overclock. ;) For some stupid reason my 3dmark 2001 score beats 5'8"'s old score with his 4600 ti despite the fact that he gets higher FPS for most tests. :s Ah the power of Radeon heheheh. *shudders at the thought of FX5900 Ultra* :onthepull

What is with that mess in 5'8's case? I can't stand it :o

When you've got 1 DVD rw drive, 1 DVD drive, 2 cd rw drives, 2 hds, and 4 case fans plus the cpu hsf fan, you need a lot of wire connections. I could probably clean it up better, but it's open enough inside for my CPU. The case is wider than it looks. ;)

Violineb
July 5th, 2003, 23:33
ok I wanted to know how that FX5900 is, what scores in UT2003 and 3dmark 01 and 03. ALso how do you connect all those drives if your Abit only has two IDE connectors? anyway I still think your need to organize your case. I'm quite sure I could still hide the wires if I had that many drives. SO again my question, how do you power 4 fans and 6 drives? and how do you connect them? I would only be able to get 4 on my normal IDEs 1 on the extra IDE and 2 on Serial.

fivefeet8
July 6th, 2003, 00:53
I connected the 2 dvd drives and 2 cdrw drivers onto my 2 ide controllers(4). My 2 ide hard drivers are connected to the 2 serial ATA150 raid controllers using ide-to-serial converters(2). All my fans are connected to 4 fan stubs on my motherboard or connected directly to the PSU power cables(6). Maybe I'll clean it up sometime, but right now, I'm busy. ;) As for the 5900 ultra benchmarks, I'll post them as soon as I get around to testing this card more along with some emulation screenshots. ;)
