Mem cards and save states does't work for me

Mem cards and save states does't work for me
For example, when I tried to save a game in tony hawk's pro skater 2, it displays a message saying the mem card isn't formatted and if I want to format it. I selected yes and it fails to format the mem card
. So, I tried to save game state, and it doesn't save.
