Hi! how do i configure Pete's GPU plugins to make them actually look good? the filtering really sucks... it's almost like playing drunk. the _only_ GPU plugins with good filtering is PEOPS soft plugin, wich is fantastic.
can someone post their settings for the 1.69 version?

It really depends on the game you are playing. Games like Saga Frontier 2, Tokimeki Memorial and Street Fighter Alpha 3, which are predominantly 2d games are better in PEOPs using fullscreen filtering like 2xSai or Super Eagle.
Hardware accelerated plugins can't realisticly do that kind of pattern recognition fullscreen filtering. However, predominantly 3d games look the mutts nuts with filtering set to 6. 2xSai textures is good for some games (Such as Xenogears), and causes problems in others (Final Fantasy VII)

well, i suppose you're right since both d3d and opengl are 3d api's, but hey, all the games i've tried, chrono chross, final fantasy 7 through 9 _really_ sucks with the 3d plugins and as i said, the peops software really makes it wonderful...

Framerate:
- FPS limitation: on
- Frame skipping: off
- FPS limit: Auto

well.. i'd just test the same configuration with the Castlevania symphony of the night and the filtering was just horrible...
it looks like the colors are smudged..yuck

Well that surprises me about as much as it surprises me that humans breathe. It's a 2D game! What did you expect? Some kind of magic to occour? The OpenGL and D3D renderers are 3D renderers that incidentaly do 2d.

ofcourse i didn't expect a miracle, like doom3 should pop out of nowhere, but my point with this thread is that the filtering of the 3d gpu plugins is horrible (that's my opinion) and it doesn't matter if i'm playing final fantasy 7 or chrono chross or final fantasy 5 - the same kind och smudged filtering occurs, and that's ugly... ;)
as i said, the peops software plugin generates the nicest filtering and i's really like to see your GL / D3D settings

I simply can't agree with that. Let's take Final Fantasy 9 as an example. First 2 shots from Peops with these settings:
Plugin: P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver 1.1.12
Author: Pete Bernert and the P.E.Op.S. team
Resolution/Color:
- 640x480 Window mode
Stretch mode: 5
Dither mode: 2
Framerate:
- FPS limit: on
- Frame skipping: off
- FPS limit: Auto
Misc:
- Scanlines: disabled
- Game fixes: on [00000001]

Often these settings,
sometimes I use S.smoothing on fast games
don't forget Mask bit detection for Silent Hill
...My last ATI card was a Rage128, so I don't know what is the best for ATI's now, but if you have a fast comp, I don't thik you'll notice a big change

[16 Bit]- Keep psx aspect ratio: on
Textures:
- R8G8B8A8
- Filtering: 2
- Hi-Res textures: off

For the text, it's cuz of Alpha multipass, and filtering settings...
I don't care of text if they're still readable
BTW, where can I download Pete's benchmark application?

metus, use the same settings as me and you should be fine. Pete has fixed a lot of the ATi issues this time round.Howeverm you will still need to use the special game fix 'Fax Sub blending'
>BTW, where can I download Pete's benchmark application?
It it bain't on te's site, No idea.

I'd use 640x480 for FF7 - FF9.. FF7 doesn't like any type of filtering, but FF8 and FF9 and do with a little.. None of the filtering is as good as RGSS FSAA on the V5 though.. ;) Screeen smoothing is ok on FF8 and FF9..
Actually, for most 2d games on the psx, the best resolution would be 640x480.. Then just enable the highest FSAA your video card can do.. ;) One more thing, for fully 2d games, don't use any filtering except for 2xSal.. SOmetimes I use "standard" with 2xSAl though.. Depending on the game and my preference..

These are the settings i'm using with a radeon 9500 PRO:
Plugin: Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.1.71
Author: Pete Bernert
Card vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.
GFX card: Radeon 9500 x86/SSE2
Resolution/Color:
- 1024x768 Fullscreen - NO desktop changing [32 Bit]
- Keep psx aspect ratio: off
Textures:
- B8G8R8A8
- Filtering: 6
- Hi-Res textures: 1
- VRam size: 128 MBytes
Framerate:
- FPS limitation: on
- Frame skipping: off
- FPS limit: Auto
Compatibility:
- Offscreen drawing: 4
- Framebuffer texture: 3
- Framebuffer access: 4
- Alpha multipass: on
- Mask bit: on
- Advanced blending: on
Misc:
- Scanlines: off
- Line mode: off
- Unfiltered FB: off
- 15 bit FB: off
- Dithering: off
- Screen smoothing: on
- Screen cushion: off
- Game fixes: on [00001020]
As you can see, i'm using pete's opengl, mostly because d3d doesn't work for me after installing directx 9a and catalyst 3.2. Don't know who of them broke it, but i don't mind, i prefer opengl renderer :) . In some games you will have to play with the offscreen drawing and framebuffer settings in order to remove little filtering glitches (like blue/green/pink lines between polygons), but it's fantastic for most of the games. Of course, in 2d games you should stick to peops soft driver :) . Ah! and the special fixes should only be activated in some games (i think the fix i have activated is for legend of dragon, too lazy to see now :D ), so deactivate them if you don't need them.
