Cool. The Ortega is a killer sword, other than being extremely light it is extremely sharp and has other unseen blades hidden in it. Talk about cunning weapons... I would be surprised if some amateur didnt cut off one of his fingers trying to use the sword, though. :D

if the swords can be disassembled, then wouldnt it be easier to break it in combat than the swords that r in one piece?

The ninjas of old specialized in telescoping weapons, or weapons that could be shrunken in size. The purpose of such weapons is not for extensive use in battle, but for stealth. It's much easier to kill an unaware person than it is to kill a fully battle-ready person. It's dishonorable as hell, but it's the smart way of doing things.

i cant believe swords are still that popular, with guns taking their place.
too bad i dont use any.
Strider
November 30th, 2002, 05:56
theyre mainly ornamental, just like armor pieces, in a way its a work of art really, to make a sword especially one such as those it takes a lot of work, and its not sissy work like a lot of artists who are too derranged to have a real job but instead make money by selling drawings they made by throwing their own feces at the wall... to make a sword you need mettalurgical knowledge, you need to know how to operate the furnaces and bowels, you need to do a lot of manual labor hammering the steel, and you need a great amount of skill to make precise decorations on the metal, now i dont know about you but i would rather put up a cavalry sword on my wall than a picture of some ugly woman made up of triangles
Sera

i have one thing to say:
please strider dont be offended by my status, i know, you like swords that much, but my status clearly states sometin.
well back to the topic, are those swords use in combat? or just decorations of some sort?
Strider
November 30th, 2002, 06:29
well, im not exactly sure what your title is supposed to mean but im not offended, think whatever you wanna think, it aint my place to try and change your mind
and yes i believe those swords can be used in battle, metal is metal after all, they would be pretty sharp unless they had dulled edges which they do not appear to have... although the ones on the top i would be a little skeptical of their durability in a real clash of swords, but then again theyve made some very interesting discoveries with metals over the past 1000 years so you never know how strong it actually is, although the Ortega probably is very strong and very sharp, no sword would sell for that price otherwise unless it was owned by some famous king or emperor or something

That would do little if anything. The Gun has no barrel. Where does the bullet travel?
Strider
December 15th, 2002, 03:16
yeah, the gun part is i think a little flashy, its not like it would be efficient to build it in there, the blade blocks the barrel, the hilt is uncomfortable, it would be incredibly uncomfortable to shoot while holding the hilt (not to mention aiming), and if you know how the inside of a revolver system works then you would know how hard it is to make a real trigger hammer and spring system inside such a compact space, not to mention the angle, check out this link to see how the inside of the gun would have to look like anyways http://www.howstuffworks.com/machine-gun2.htm

i doubt that anyone would ever successfully make a working gunblade i just found it on the net
Strider
December 15th, 2002, 17:45
yeah i know, but the whole trigger hammer thing is just a bit too tacky for something that wont do anything anyways, when i first played ff8 i expected squall to be able to shoot stuff with it

You could try to find it at Ebay, or google it for information on it. There might be certain persons who make these things next to other decorated medieval weapons. But don't expect it to be cheap...

If you are talking about swords from pics you posted, then no. They are almost 100% surely made from stainless steel and it shatters almost by looking at it. It wont take much fast swinging-in-air either.

wow, almost 2 years in the trash and someone found it ? :p
oh well, i guess it was a practical reason to resurrect it, im just confused as to how someone dug this up ;)
anyways, i agree with maza on that last point... i actually have a friend who makes swords in a workshop he has at home, and stainless steel is extremely crappy

Exactly. The ninja weren't warriors or the people that battle demons like in todays anime and video games. They were thieves, assassins, and murderers. Dishonor and ninja have always been together. For some reason we think they look cool but in reality they are your average masked thug.

I gather that ninjas were the worlds first "campers"
Actuaily they were stealthy assasins who serve a lord just like a Samurai and to them honor comes from thier skill at killing thier target without being detected

Yeah, but using Ninjas was very dishonorable aswell, (if caught, that is :D ) as they are considered as complete, lowest of scum. Still, some ninja were actually samurai getting some extra cash...

Since i dont know what a PPK is, most likely my sword is not a PPK :D
In fact, i got it pretty cheap. I didnt want to spend alot of money on my first sword, not knowing if i would like having one in the house anyway.

I saw that picture in one of your posts above and even it does look like it, its not the same sword. One of the main reason would be that the handle is wrapped in some kind of rubber. The blade however is made of stainless steel.
So its not great quality, but i knew what i was getting for the price i paid.
MaZa
November 26th, 2004, 10:12
The ito wrapping was indeed what made me to ask if its PPK or not. Otherwise it looked so much like it.
