I'm just wandering which one is recommended, cause i'm using P.E.Op.S at the moment, but a few games have some glitches, which is resolved with Eternal SPU, but the thing is if I sync the audio, I get chipping in the sound, which is annoying...so, which one? Are there any others that you'd recommend? Thanx in advance!

Those two are the best.
Eternal is likely to have a new release within the next couple of months. Other than that, I don't know.

Pete's DSound Is not bad either and comes with very handy options. As for the glitches, try increasing the sound buffer a little bit, it might help....

Use Eternal. And increasing the sound buffers a little should help with the "chipping" problem you're experiencing.

If you have a CPU with a weak FPU, use Pete's Dsound or PEOPS. If you have a fast computer, use eternal. Funny thing is, though pete's and peops use no FPU (my k6-2 has a bad fpu as alot of you know), i can't tell the difference whatsoever between the two..:eyes:

For onboard sound, PEOpS does a bit better than Eternal. But ready2rumbel's SB Live! would take more advantage of Eternal's features. The "crackling" effect is indeed caused by a low buffer.

Hey, I have an onboard sound card and I'm using ethernal plugin. Its just perfect. Better than the real psx in some games.
BTW, in audio out method, use 'timer'. Its the fastest one.

I often ESC out to do something, and it causes corruption in the music more often than not. I haven't seen PEOpS display this effect, and besides, I'm no audiophile.

If you want to play Final Fantasy titles, use SPU Eternal, because Pete's produces some strange noises (e.g. Bahamut's Megaflare in FF9 sounds like a starting engine).

eternal works the best, but i often use petes anyway just cuz im too lazy to switch plugins everytime i play a different game.

It happens for me too, but I don't care. I'm playing Xenogears (again), and w/o Ethernal Plugin, there's only bleep bloop on this game.

Well, the thing that bugs me is that Eternal doesn't sync sound well. In Tekken 3, with 'SPUasync' on on 'Smooth', Tekken 3 is still outta sync quite a bit....any suggestions?

mess with the sound buffer size to make your sound sync better. around 20 works well for me

or try timer mode

Yeah, I also used the Timer option on Win98. However on WinXP the Thread option is better because you can use smaller buffers (I use 10 without any glitches).

Well, if it interests anyone, I know why Tekken 3 was so out of sync....I put the buffer above 128....and that was the problem. If I put the buffer amount above 80, then it starts getting outta sync...but if I put it less than 8-10, the sound is also outta sync and it starts that chipping/scratching problem...so, for now it's as good as I can get it. B.T.W, the latest version of Eternal SPU is v1.3, right? Cause a new version of Eternal SPU came out for Linux, and the link said that it was based on Eternal SPU v1.4!!! So, if there is v1.4 for Windows, can anyone tell me where to get it? Otherwise, thanks for all the help guys.....and sorry again, 'Betamax' for my little misshap... :)

B.T.W, F-3582, with your recommended config for WinXP, is your sound synced?

Yeah, perfectly!
Umm: Where did you get that information of a new version, cuz the PSXAlternative site (the homepage of SPU Eternal) didn't contain any information about that?

Well, go to www.emuunlim.com, and one of the updates on the page says so....and what I meant was that the Linux version 'will' come out, and that it's based on Eternal SPU v1.40, so can you blame me if I thought Eternal SPU v1.40 already exists? But anyway, this is what it says.....
"Eternal SPU For Linux

Some good news coming from PSX Alternative:
Although I couldn't take contact with gunshinn for a long time, he gave me a mail with nice report today. Gunshinn is an author of Harakiri PAD Plugin and Eternal SPU for Linux port. First release of Eternal SPU for Linux will be based on v.1.40 for Windows.
Further info at this page."
B.T.W, 'F-3582', do you have all the other options on, e.g 'Update before accessing register', 'SPU IRQ - Wait CPU action', and 'SPU IRQ - Force interruption flag7'?
Thanks again,

Well, you should only enable them, if you play one of the games listed there.

I use eternal 1.30 for rpgs (less bugs), and peops for megaman and things like that, for the reverb effects. :)

Just to clear up some confusion, the only reason that the spu-async method was added to Eternal was to fix the sound in metal gear solid. In any other game you will get a very bad frame rate, very chipped sound, or both (in my case). For example, I have my sound buffer set to 32 in all situations. I can run metal gear solid at over 80 fps with perfect sound using smooth spu-async (and I only have a PIII 500mhz!). In all other games, such as ff7, ff8, megaman x 4, megaman x 5, gran turismo 2, and capcom vs snk, I will get extremely bad sound as well as bad fps using the smooth spu-async. I can get perfect sound in all games except mgs by using simple spu-async, wait spu-async, timer, and thread modes.
The bottom line: the smooth spu-async mode was intended only for use with metal gear solid. Do NOT use it in any other games.
Something I also want to add concerns the new PEOPS Dsound plugin (v 1.2). I believe you can get decent sound using the spu-async funtion in this plugin in mgs plus you can use savestates in mgs. Eternal's spu-async mode will not allow savestates in mgs.
