View Full Version : An Illustrated Guide to Tokimeki Memorial 2's Emotional Voice System (EVS)

I was bored this Sunday evening, so I made this. :p

This is for those people who would like to use the Emotional Voice System function in Tokimeki Memorial 2. TM2 has some of the best voice acting in gaming history, and Konami certainly didn't skimp on it.

Ok, here's the starting screen. First choice is "New Game", Second is "Option Room", third is (prolly) PocketStation Support, and last is the Omake Room. Select the first choice.

Now this is the File select room, where you manage your saved games and start a new game. Select the upper left box for a new game, and select "yes" for confirmation. The other choices are (upper right) Load Game, (lower right) Delete Save Block, and (lower left) I dunno... looks like it flags data or something. Never found any use for it.... probably PocketStation-related.

This is the Name Input screen where you (surprise!) input your name in last name, then press the red button on the bottom right hand corner, then input your first name, Then press the red button again for confirmation.

This is the screen where you select your birthdate and bloodtype. In the first Tokimemo, this greatly affected your relationships with the girls, but now it's probably not as much as it used to. After you input your info, press the red button again on the far right.

After reviewing your name (making sure you got your Japanese characters right), select yes (the highlighted one) for confirmation, or No (the other choice) to go back to the Name Input screen.

Now here's the tricky part. This screen asks you if you would like to use an existing EVS. If you've already started a previous game of TM2 before and have created an existing EVS either from the default ones or the Hibikino Watcher Append discs and would like to use them, select the left one. A memcard selection screen would then appear. Choose one. If this is your first game (meaning no existing EVS yet), or would like to create a new EVS from the Hibikino Watcher Append discs, or simply don't want to use the EVS, select the right one.

Here's another tricky part again. This screen asks you if you would like to go to the sound room to create an EVS, or go straight to the game without using EVS. Left choice for a new EVS, right choice to go to the game without using the EVS.

Ah, here we go, the sound room. This screen lets you choose which character you would like to use EVS on. Unfortunately, you can only select one character to say your name, the rest of them goes silent in instances where you name is supposed to be said. Anyway, since I don't have the Hibikino Watcher Voice Append discs, I dunno how to add more voices to the game, so for the meantime let's be content with the two default ones: Hinomoto Hikari and Asou Kasumi. Choose one using the arrows or the L1/R1 buttons and select the character you want by pointing the finger at the character and pressing Circle.

This is the screen where you input the characters for your nickname. Remember that only Hikari will call you by your nickname ["(nickname)-kun"] since you're her childhood friend, the rest will call you by your surname ["(surname)-san"] until you get close to that particular girl. Anyway, input your desired characters and press OK for confirmation.

This is the screen where you select how you want your nickname to be said, or in other words, the voice pitch. Select one which suits your nickname, listen to the pitch, and if you like it press OK, making sure that the play button is right beside your desired pitch.

A confirmation screen to check if you got everything to your liking. Press OK to confirm, or No to go back and change your choices.

Listen to your nickname! ^_^ Totemo Kakoii, ne? Kero-chan asks you if you liked it. If you did, then select Yes. If you think your name sucks and you like to do it all over again, then just press no and consult your kanji chart again. ^^;

If you did like your nickname and said yes to the previous screen, this screen asks you if you would like to save this EVS to memcard. If I were you I'd start with a clean memcard to use exclusively for the EVS, because the EVS takes 15 memory blocks! Anyway, select "Hai", choose a memory card slot, wait for it to save and then the game (finally) starts.... with the prologue. ^^; It's not 5 discs for nothing, so prepare yourself for a LOOOONG game.

If you have an existing EVS already in your memcard, this screen pops up after the one in Part 6, after you decide to use the EVS and have selected the memcard slot. In this case I used Hikari-chan's EVS, select "Hai" if you'd like to use the current one on the memcard, "Iie" if you don't want to use EVS in your game.

This is just a picture of the EVS loading up from the memcard. ^^;

Well, that's the end of it! I hope it helped those gaijin who are confused with setting up the Emotional Voice System for Tokimeki Memorial 2... Yes, all three of you. Plus me makes four. :p

Special thanks goes to the PEOpS crew for their wonderful GPU and SPU plugin. It's the best! ;)

I'm glad it went just fine, LK. :)

If you need Gameshark cheats for boosting stats to 999, I have them too. :evil: But I don't use them myself; that would be an insult to my 1337 Tokimemo skillz. :p
