View Full Version : Need some help with animated GIFs

There is this annoying problem with some of the animated gifs I've created. When viewing them in Irfanview (the most recent v3.75) the images are corrupted. Here's an example:

This is from the arcade game Bad Dudes if you're curious. Viewed in just about any browser (I've checked IE, Mozilla, and Opera) it should look fine. View it with an older version of Irfanview (v3.36) and it looks fine. Load it into a graphics program like Fireworks or ImageReady and it looks fine. Now, use the most recent version of Irfanview (v3.75) and notice the problem. Frame 2 is missing most of the image (use the extraction function in Irfanview to see the frames individually). In frame 2 the character is completely absent, only the aura remains, creating a "blinking." I've exchanged a few emails with the author of Irfanview explaining the problem, and he's looking into it to see if it's a bug. It's almost certainly not a bug in Irfanview though, because I checked with ACDSee (v5.0) and it has the same problems with the same gifs as Irfanview.

I'm really at my wits end about this. I could just remake the effected gifs and hope that the new versions look proper, but the fact is there's really nothing wrong with the originals.

I know there are some skilled graphics guys on this board, so I'm hoping someone can shed some light on my problem. I primarily use Fireworks 4 for my animated gifs, and I'll occasionally use ImageReady for optimizations.

Thanks in advance.:)

With konqueror, there is some kind of blinking white border on the left and upper side.

I see nothing wrong using explorer and mozill browsers... and that's good animation if I might say...

I explained already that it looks fine in IE and Mozilla. The problem is with the recent (and only the recent) versions of Irfanview and ACDSee.

Thanks for the compliment though.:)
