View Full Version : Silent EpsxE

The developers over at epsxe.com have been quiet for quite a long time. Everytime I check the page, the last news item has been from April when the last version 1.5.2 was released.

I remember seeing a post before how someone mentioned that the Epsxe team has been taking the summer off, however, I don't remember summer being from April until September ;).

This isn't a flame post, or a post to incite a flame war, but just wondering at all the silence. Even if the team IS resting or researching or whatnot, we haven't heard ANYthing from them at all about any type of development, news, or even a HI THERE!.

Is Epsxe still being developed as a psx emulator? Will it be morphing into a different kind of emulator? Perhaps allowing for PSX2 or pocketstation games? Do the guys putting out the plugins (Pete, Lewpy) know anything about where these guys went off to? Can I look forward to more updates? Can I look forward to getting lasagna for dinner? Well, I don't know the answers to most of those questions, but perhaps someone out there does.

So c'mon Epsxe developers! Let us hungry emulator users know what's up!

Yes ePSXe is still being developed, but the autors are on holiday.
No the ePSXe team AFAIK has no plans for pocketstation/PS2 emulation at this time.

No no no. I don't want a three word reply, no offense to you, Kane. I want to start a conversation with this topic, not a " They're on Vacation " click, goodbye response.

Has there been any word on new developments? Has the webmaster for the site been in contact with anyone? Does anyone here in the forums talked to Pete lately, to ask where the future of all this leads to? Epsxe is, IMHO, the greatest emulator produced right now. With the new games that have come out (Gundam Battle Assault 2) and other games that do not work (Worlds Scariest Police Chases), how is the emulator going to be developed for perhaps better speeds, better compatibility, etc?

I was incredibly happy when Epsxe finally supported Rhapsody, and now I'm looking for the same feeling with the new version that will come out eventually, but throw us something here, what can we expect, Epsxe gurus?

Yes it is still being developed, there are imprevements allowing GT2 to work on the next version.
ePSXe is always being developed for better compatibility. Speed I'd assume is less of an issue, as it is already heavily optimised. It's not as fast as AdriPSX, but it has higher compatibility. That's just the way it's written.
Like I said, the official word is taht the coders decided to take a summer vacation.

World's Scariest Police Chases and some other game (can't remember the name) don't seem to work, but that's not even something I'm thinking about right now :)

The offical word from the ePSXe team was not to expect anything from them until the fall. Carlos stated that they were taking a Summer Break, which they rightly deserve. All that Lord Kane stated is true. Now that fall is almost here, we should be hearing from them again. As for continuing to develope it, yes they are. You see, I am a beta tester for ePSXe and I am currently using the latest beta version. This is different from the version that people download, it has changes and improvements that the regular version does not have yet. I recieved this beta back in May (I believe) and i have not yet recieved another one, so I figure that they (the ePSXe team) are not back to work on it yet.
Be patient and it will come, in a while perhaps, but it WILL come.
One last thing, please don't ask me for a copy of the beta because you won't get it. They trust me and I am not about to break that trust.
sincerely,
sx/amiga

I thank you for your answers, sxamiga, and no, my post really wasn't about being impatient or demanding upgrades or beta versions (and I'm sure you weren't implying it)

But its good to hear from some people who know people who are developing EpsxE, and of course, they deserve a break. Just wondering at the complete SILENCE was all.

I eagerly await, with infinite patience, for the next release of my favorite emulator.

Oh, by the way, can I have that beta version? ;)

You're most welcome and you are correct, I wasn't implying that you were hinting for the beta. I know silence on a project such as this can be scary with all the questions that arise. But rest assured, in this case the slience is just due to the team taking a well deserved break. I'm glad you understand and no, you may not have the beta.:D
sincerely,
