People could be more helpful if we knew more info about your computer. Post your comp specs, Epsxe specs and wheter or not you use a CD to play the game and we'll try to help as much as we can. :)

i'm having ff9 problems too and i too just borrowed it this week. the game is just unplayably slow. i played around with settings for the last hour and I can't get anything to speed it up. sometimes when its changing "scenes" i get artifacts on the screen, what i would call "snow" if i was playing on my tv. i've only just started the game, as soon as that guy loads and he says "it sure is dark" i get automatic lag. actually the 1st time i played i got to the 1st fight and then it lagged.

game: ff9 ntsc USA
settings-
bios: scph1001
gpu: pete's opengl 164 using the "nice" settings, set to 640x480 windowed, 1024x768 full
spu: petes
cdrom: epsxe win2k

these settings work great with thps3, gt2, and every other game i've tried.

here it is.

pc:
1.5GHz P4 willamete
256 RDRam
WinXP Prof
GF2 MX400 64MB

epsxe:
1.5.1
Pete's openGL 1.58
ePSXe CDR WNT/W2K core 1.5.1. (i used virtual cd 4.0.4 and im playing ff9 directly from my harddrive. dunno but i think that its better. i play all other ps cds that way and had no problems except in ff9.)

game:
ff9 NTSC (dunno. but i know that its not japanese)

Pete's plugin works and i only have that problem in ff9 everytime i talk to the moogles. now i cant save and i cant use tents.

thanks in advance.

i am going to guess that you didn't read the read me and where it has to have the frame buffer setting to not have the it set at reads/moves or it will crash, Change that and see if it fixes it.

ya, i saw this line on the readme...

"Ah, and another hint: never use the gfx card reads/moves with FF8/FF9."

but i dont have that option in pete's opengl 1.58 and i didnt use it in 1.64 version.

In version 1.58 it's broken down into 2 options in the "specific game fixes" section called "Framebuffer Read" and "Framebuffer Read on Move". Anyway, if you have 1.64 you might as well use it, as well as using 1.5.2 of epsxe.

Also have you used any PEC codes/cheats? Sometimes that'll make a game all screwed up

i didn't see that. I figured he would be using the a some new verison of the plugins and the newest epsxe. I guess that isn't the problem.

I also had problem running ff9. Under windows 2000 every game i tryed to emulate ran like crap, but with windows xp ff9 runs great. I saw that most of the people having problem also run windows 2000. Maybe it is time to dual boot. I am not sure if it is just for ff9 or if it is for all psx game in general.

Also does anyone know how to reduce the load time inbetween battles. and what is the point to playing that supid card game in ff9.

To reduce load time, simply use black framebuffer textures.

Play the game off an ISO helps a lot too!

i tried to play thps3 off an iso that i made myself just curious as to what it did, and it didn't work. it would just load the bios. maybe i did something wrong...r there any tricks to it that i might not know about? i just made an iso using winiso and then hit "run iso".

This error "Opcode..." happened to me when I used save states. I don't know if you make save states, but I always prefer native saves.

Overuse of save states will tend to crash epsxe, just use some normal saves and some saves states to balance out.

well okay. i know since disc 3 i heavily relied on save states.
