Hello all,

Below I'll post the system I use, but first let me state the problem. The background of Final Fantasy 7 stays at a low resolution, no matter how I configure it. The characters changes perfectly, but the background stays rough and pixelated.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

could you post a screenshot of the problem? others might have an idea just by looking at it.

extremely high resolutions will only slow the game IIRC.

also try to set the draw method to "Bright" for more FPS.

Thanks, but speed wasn't the problem. The problem is the low resolution. Any ideas on that?

Try lowering the resolution

Just use filtering.

sarcasm mode ON:

Ok, imagine that the following is a pixel of some drawn 2D bkg picture on the real psx:

#

so, now stretch that pixel to an higher resolution in a psx emu gpu plugin:

##
##

yeah, right, it's still the same stupid pixel... amazing, isn't it?

sarcasm mode OFF:

as long as no game graphics designer is porting a psx game to the PC, and drawing all 2D gfx to an higher resolution, of course the pixel will stay the same...

filtering/2xsai can improve the gfx, but it will never look like a good ported PC game.

Live with it.

Use a resolution of a multiple of the original psx resolution and the closest.. Ie.. 640x480.. Filtering causes it's own problems.. Your 3d characters won't look so good though, because you don't have a FSAA capable card..

Your choice with lewpys glide pluggin:

good looking high res 3d characters + very pixelated 2d backgrounds

or:

Good looking 2d backgrounds but 3d characters looks aliased..

Here is a shot on my voodoo 5 at 640x480, 4xFSAA enabled(for better looking 3d/2d, but you don't have this in your voodoo 3), bilinear filtering/without sprites..

Have a look at my guide. It explains why lower resoloutions can be better for FF7
