View Full Version : FinalFantasy VIII gfx issues (cosmetical, but annoying)

I know FF8 gfx from the real PSX and I noticed a few things:

- Some pictures (only a few splash screens) look a bit scanlined, but on a real PSX they don't

- When a normal battle starts I can't see any blur effect (only before the witch battle at the end of CD1 it looks like the real effect)

Is it fixable?

The scanlined thing can be fixed by playing with Off-screen drawing. However, it needs to be set back to 2 or 3 befor you play the game itself.
The battle things... I dunno. IIRC, the FF8 ones aren't related to framebuffer reads.

Thanks. Maybe one of the next Pete's GPU releases fixes it...

These are my settings and I see the graphics before battles. Good luck!

I tried, but it did not help. I should mention that on a real psx the whole screen "swirls" (I didn't find a screenshot, yet) and after that it turns black. With ePSXe the screen only brightenes up on one side and then turns black.

The whole screen swirls ?
I don't think so.
/me launches ePSXe with PEOPS and checks.

I'll try to get a real shot from a real PSX.

fivefeet8, would you please post a screenshot (immediately after the battle music starts, that is very important)?

Just to prove it, I took that screenie from the PC version (Maybe you noticed that GeForce2 bug :bash: ), because the effect is the similar to the PSX version.

After that you can see the known effect:
