View Full Version : Xenogears slow battle sequences. Anybody can help, please?

I played Xenogears perfectly using CVGS, but that was when I still used Win98. Now I moved to WinXP, and can't use CVGS anymore, and I've found the better ePSXe. But in battles, my xenogears play slowly, and I'm already using the latest gpu plugin.
Can anybody help? Thanks!

on what part, as in every battle or boss battle???

Try different video plugins like pete's D3D... try to explore using different plugins too, not just pete's plugins. You can download other plugins here at ngemu.

make sure that you turn off PC FPS calculation.

Every battle. I'm using pete's OpenGL, I click on the fast button then:
increase the resolution (1024 x 768),
change color depth to 32,
texture quality --> don't care,
off-screen drawing --> enhanced,
framebuffer textures --> emulated vram or something.

Sound --> eternalSPU.
Does that help? Thanks!

well like I said earlier, try using different plugins like pete's D3D. Try experimenting other plugins available. If you only have pete's plugin and none of then seems to help, download other plugins here on NGemu.

Also you can lower your resolution to 800x600 to pick up some speed. Check also if your frame limit is set to what too.

i don't see any reason why it should slow down on your machine, you have a powerful one.

but isn't OpenGl the best for GeForce VGAs?

yes it is... but when it comes to the game, you should also try to fiddle around your video config to see what plugin is best for that game. It doesn't necessary means that openGL is best for all games, sometimes you experience some problem, like you have right now, and try other alternatives for this.

Also like ultragunner, I played xenogear at 640x480 resolution at 16 bit. Also try that one to increase your speed.

Heck, your PC config is much better than mine so I really don't get why it run that slow for you... mine run at an average of 50 to 60 fps.

Try running it as an ISO, it sped it up for me

Oookay. I'm already playing from an ISO, and turns out switching to 16bit colors help fix the slow battle seq. for me. But in the beginning, when Fei returns to Lahan while it's burning, it's all black, I can see nothing. What can be wrong? thanks!

enable the vram option, but it will make the game slow. I suggest running it at window screen, you could also enable frame skipping when your vram option to make it fast if it become slow.

my vram option is autodetect. what should I set it to? and can anyone tell me what vram is? thanks!

I tried 32, but it didn't work. I should probably say that I can still see dialogues.

Don't do that, it's inconvenient. What you need to do is activate the Xenogears special game fix (Not the F7 trick, Pete also has one). This will automatically enable and disable the full VRAM primitives option.

these settings will let you see what is happening in there. be warned though that this will be slow. 20+ FPS.

Never mind, I'm outdated :o. That game-fix appears to no longer exist, I don't know what it's replaced by...ignore me :)

I've got the same setup, except my framebuffer access is set it 4 (Full software). In my case this allows section to run at normal speed.

Make sure framebuffer access is set to 3 or 4. 4 would give me a little faster speed during the "warped" sequences (35 fps) compared to access set to 3 (30 fps), but leaving it option on 4 would slow the game down to 50 fps all other times. I just left it on 3 all the time. You can change it during the game with Pete's ingame options too.

I'm facing a problem again. Seems like the game doesn't like being played by me. Anyway, in the world map, some patches of ground (or water) aren't displayed. This happens when the camera's not looking in the general direction of the patch. If I swivel the camera to look at that spot, it'll be displayed correctly. when I look away again, the patches disappear again. What do I do? Thanks in advance!

My biggest annoyance with the world map was that every 15 seconds, everything would pause for about a second. I think stuff displayed correctly for me though. Try it with PEOPS to see if it's a GPU problem or just emulation.
