FF7 problem

My problem is a bit weird...
Close to the end of disk 1 in FF7, you have to dig out a Lunar Harp by using 5 diggers, placing diggers into position and then telling them where to dig. The Harp, which is necessary to complete the game, is on the upper side of the screen, which is accessible through the ladder.

So, normally I can use the ladder and climb up and down. But, in "digger selection modes", when there is a message box "Press [SQUARE] to assign blahblah...", I can't get on a ladder at all! No button works, except arrows and square! So, I'm stuck in the lower part and obviously can't go on.

I'm using ePSXe 1.5.2, Pete's OpenGL plugin, FF7 is U.S. version, and there were no problems up to this point. I remember completing this place long ago with VGS, without any problems... Any ideas anyone?

I think the lunar harp IS at that section of the place,and thats why you arent allowed to do anything up the ladder

Nope, it _is_ on an upper ledge, it's obvious from the way all the diggers I am putting on the lower one are turning their heads up.

Besides, [checking FAQs on gamefaqs...] (this is Dark Angel's):

Yeah i guess youre right....but this shouldnt have anything to do with plugins...maybe its emulator related.Try pressing f4

f4 freezes everything on my emulator; you still can restore old savestate by f3.

I know this is not a problem with ePSXe, I finished this game recently using ePSXe 1.5.2, and had no trouble getting the Lunar Harp. My bet is that it's a game play issue, maybe you're not positioning Cloud correctly?

Umm... I know it's not that - when NOT in "digger/dig spot" selection mode, I climb
up and down easily. Cloud jumps on a ladder from anywhere if it's not too far away.
And of course I tried all positions around the ladder before posting to forum! There's just
something wrong with this mode.

Perhaps you have to press some button to clear out this message window ("press [square] to blahblah")? Except that no buttons except arrows and [square] work in my ePSXe version...

Actually it is the positioning. When I first played that section on the psx version it took me about 10 minutes to get that sod up the ladder. Second most frustrating thing I ever had to do in a square game. Stick with it.

Maybe.... After being stuck at this place for 2 days, I dug out VGS,
downloaded savegame converter... Guess what? I got up this ladder in a minute or so. It was still problematic, but for some reason it just worked out.

Now I guess I will never know what to blame - ePSXe or myself... Thank anyway everyone!
